I recently bought a Manfrotto tripod that had a ball head on it that was screwed on real tight and was impossible to get leverage on. This tip helped me to get it off and saved me $50 to buy a new center column for my tripod to mount a new head on, thank you!! And thanks to Bill Hibbler below for naming the piece that you used for this (hose clamp)!
Unfortunately, I have had to do this twice, and your method worked perfectly!! Thank you twice!
Gave up on my old style 501 head, theres rust coming outta one of the holes I bought it used now i know why they sold it.
That little thing is called a hose clamp.
I found a Manfrotto tripod with the head attached. There were 3 screws underneath and someone already took them out. I still cannot separate the head and tripod. I may have to try this. I don't get why they won't separate. Thanks for the tips
Great tip which got me to thinking about the filter wrench I have in my camera bag. It worked like a charm!
Love this video and love the energy lol
Cool tip tho! I'm not sure if they changed but Bogen / Manfrotto head tubes mounting base has 2or 3 set screws from under side that catch those ridged teeth on bottom of your head so it can't unscrew. On mine (3051 & 3036 Tracker) you loosen the set screws and grip entire head in locked position to unscrew.
if this doesnt work and you want to keep the tripod and not the head.. put the head in a vice and then stick a screwdriver through the hole in the bottom of the central collumn and use it for leverage, worked to get some absolutely solid on for me...
Great tip! Thanks from Tacoma!!
Thank you!
It worked! thanks so much!!
Thanks so much!
How do u remove that bolt thing u do first, what tool
Hey, I was trying to detach that head for three years now... I didn't see the allen bolt under a degree dial sticker... Thanks, and hi from Issaquah WA!
Didn't work for me. the hose clamp just flies off when I hit it.
Awesome energy dude!
Didn't even have this problem but still watched the video cause you're so engaging lol
guys guys: put it in the freezer for 30min to an hour, garanteed success
Good info, but man, you talk too much!
I realize that this is several years late, but I had a similar problem to what you had with a stuck head. Using the hose clamp was a very simple solution to my problem as well. Thank you for sharing!
