The UV channel was being created by Unreal, for light baking.

thank you for the tutorial. I made everything like you. One thing is, that only the Base Texture is imported from Maya. roughness and metal texture information did not work and didnt transfer wright to unreal. Is that normal? Everything looks flat

    thanks for the video,
Im trying to do some Arnold look dev, but then my goal is to render in UE, is there a way to keep my work done in Maya and have the same material in UE?

hi .I have a problem .when I import my shot with animation in it .when I open the sequencer and scrub the timeline and play the animation.my ue5 crashes every time .its not the case in ue4 .it just crashes on ue 5 .did you test to import animation before?

Hey Mostafa, sounds annoying… Will test in the next couple of days and give you a shout. Are you using Maya? Not sure on your pipeline but have you tried the updated live link plugin yet?

@@AnellaVisuals yes i am using maya.but i dont want to use skeleton for bringing my animation into unreal .i want catch .because of my rig complexity.for this reason i cant use maya live link.because it only works with joint.

fantastic tutorial.and what if you want to assign unreal material to the object to override the default material?

Thanks Mostafa, we are super glad you liked it! This is a really good question and is something we are curious about too. Currently, we are not aware of an automatic way to do this on export or import via USD. Up to now, our process has been to replace the USD material slot in the details pane with an unreal engine material, which absolutely works, but we know that this might not always be super practical. Will message you if we find a neat way of doing this!

@@AnellaVisuals How do you save this material replacement? Every time i replace the material with unreal's native material and press save or even export then it crashes. Ho do you resolve this?

brooo thanks for the tut, can i also use export animations in usd and import in unreal engine?

    • @AnellaVisuals

No problem FISHY BILLA, you can transport animation data with USD yes.. What sort of animations are you looking to export?? If it’s character animation I’d highly recommend checking out the new Live Link plugin. You will need to download and install for both Maya and Unreal but it’s totally worth it.

Thanks for this video. I'm still learning usd and I had a question. What would you say at the moment are the disadvantages of usd workflow between maya and unreal. And also. You did the update for uv. How does that update the usd in unreal? Or do you have to re-export another usd in order to fix a problem you come across in unreal within the scene you import? Is there a smooth working?

For experience. No displacement map for USD preview but it's the only way that work, otherwise, using blender for testing, but I think this issue comes from Unreal and we will need to wait for Unreal MaterialX release. But being able to have a full scene of actors ready in unreal is really cool tough.
