  • Pedro Juan Gutiérrez has often been described as the Latin American answer to Hunter S. Thompson or Charles Bukowski, a modern master of dirty realism depicting the daily life of the impoverished underclasses.
His 2001 short story "Buried in Sh!t" is a masterful meditation of Cuban life for the down and out. In just a few thousand words, he's able to do what many writers spend a lifetime attempting, achieving Truth in its truest and most authentic from. Would highly recommend.
