Hidden Fuel Door for classic trucks with wood beds. Here’s an easy, cheap way to give you a clean wood bed look with a hidden fuel filler. Please like, share, and subscribe!
Great idea. I would have put a notch in the underside of the 45 degree part of the "door" with a receiving lip on the fixed piece adjacent that would then support the board when closed. Good, dry quartersawn or riftsawn wood that is then fully sealed on all six sides will help avoid warpage but in the end, humidity might still warp the board more than the hinges can control. If you have the clearance on the underside, an additional piece of wood (just narrow enough to avoid the hinges and any lip noted above) screwed to the original board will also increase the moment of inertia and help combat warpage.
I saw the comment from Doug ..I am working on a 59 Apache as well . I have ordered a lot of the similar items for my build as well so all the videos you have on the ac ,and painless wire kit are very nice to see before going thru it all for myself . The bed gas filler is a great idea the hidden door is very nice touch . Keep up the good work !
Silvo, I just found and subscribed to your channel. I am rebuilding a 59 Apache and you are doing many of the same things I intend. Thanks for taking the time to video and post. I am looking for the IFS part 3.
That looks super clean. Well done.
The $650 kit looks awesome when it’s visible. Your way will allow me to save over $635.00. I think others would agree your solution is better.
Your videos are great so thorough. Thank you. Why did you go with the mustang fuel tank? Just curious.
