I can't stop thinking about the podcast episode about the absolutely insane day where he DECKED some skid who was harassing a friend, without even realizing he'd thrown a punch until he saw his own fist, and felt as though his Irish ancestors spoke through his lineage saying "ye don't drink and ye airen't catholic, so by God yoer'e gonna fight"
and I watch media with him in it and observe a fiercely competitive man with profoundly formal but assertive energy. and perhaps because he's not willing to do real physical violence, we get to see him enact pretend emotional violence on screen for money! and that's great, that's a win win for me

Same thing with Challenging. Any player may do it. Also the duke blocks foreign aid, and collect tax. Yes, I will be pedantic.

The quotes you provided simply say that it is possible in some cases to take counteractions, but that doesn't mean you have powers beyond what is described in the rules for each of the counteractions, which generally only allow you to counteract if you are the target of the action. If you're going to be pedantic, at least be right as well.
Having played the game a lot myself, there wouldn't be much of a point to deals and alliances if you couldn't block for someone else. Even if the rules don't explicitly state it (and I can't be assed to grab them), every time I've played that game, everyone just assumes you can, no one checks. If the table agrees to a rule, why not use it, book be damned?

There is an episode of Sad Boys with Brian that just came out. He talks about why he left a bit. There wasn't any bad blood, but he felt like the higher ups didn't value talent and the only way to get a raise was to become a manager. Typical corporate nonsense, too many managers and the higher ups only valuing management when the rank and file creates the most value.

Considering Brennan prefers being referred to as BLeeM over just his initials (BLM) for what I think are obvious reasons, he doesn’t want to take any attention away from the Black Lives Matter movement, it’s something he’s gone on record stating that’s a cause he truly and honestly supports. It stands to reason that Wennan would like going by WWeeW as opposed to WWW. Then again, considering he’s the anti-Brennan, he might prefer to go by BLM even though they’re not his own initials because he WANTS to take attention away from the Black Lives Matter moment and put that attention on himself, just like how he loves investing in multinational corporations and not tellling stories about LARP camp.

Okay, but the moment during the improv scene where Brennan was a professor, where he had to step away for a couple seconds as he realized exactly where the scene was inevitably headed, and that trying to change course would break every rule of improv. Beautiful.

For all that it is, I think my favorite clip from this is the "no" regarding the spell energy capsule during Calamity - because I'm not sure advantage would've been enough to survive, but HAVING that energy available made the later revival possible. And there's no POSSIBLE way to be sure if Brennan had done that calculation about spell slots, but I can't put it past him at this point. Sometimes being a cruel DM leads to a better outcome.
Hell, even if it wasn't purposeful, the fact that it worked out as it did, and everything that came FROM that spell energy not being used up beforehand, makes it my favorite. A single "heartless" No changed so much.

Honestly, that was just the tip of the iceberg for Calamity. There are too many perfect lines of villainy.
Brennan's DMing and NPC character delivery in Calamity is an absolute masterclass. I've honestly never seen another tabletop AP measure up, and I doubt I ever will. From "This bag keep arguing with me... can yooo, destroy?" to "...and I didn't do anything WRONG" to "Are you weakest at the elbow or the shoulder?" the man has RANGE.
