    One of my favorite things to do is testing components like bullets. In this story, we'll take a hands-on look at Hornady's new 110 grain A-Tip 6mm bullets. Both at the range, and in the "laboratory". If you're curious about these bullets, you're in the right place!

    I have found that heavy for caliber bullets usually like a slower powder, sometimes it can be hard to find load data for certain cartridges using the powder/ bullet combo so you end up having to extrapolate some info from other cartridges and do more load development.

    Just a thought on the howa 1500. I had accuracy issues with mine until I read about some 1500's suffer from poor recoil lug engagement. I marked mine with a black marker and after cycling the action a few times one lug had about 90% engagement while the other lug had around than 10% on the top corner. That caused the bolt to torque when fired and adding a weight to the barrel could make it worse. I lapped the lugs and transformed the rifle from 2 MOA to 1/2 MOA. I'm curious how your rifes lugs are with an after market barrel and if you have ever lapped the lugs?

    For the benefit of a new shooter watching this video for the first time, can you explain what all the measurements represent ie SD and ES. Also it should be understood that these Hornady bullets are usually twice the cost of similar weight bullets made by Berger or bullets made by GS Customs turned on a lathe bullets. Perhaps you can compare these Hornady A-Tips with the Tubbs Rebated Boat tail 6mm that David Tubbs designed.

    • @waynehendrix4806
      @waynehendrix4806 Před 3 lety +1

      George, I'm surprised to not see an answer from anyone else here. I'm not great at explaining this, but the SD represents Standard Deviation. This would be the statistical chaos in the organization of the values, whether velocity or points of impact.
      ES , or Extreme Spread, would represent the most outlying spread of the values. You might have a great SD (group) but one flyer that would make the Extreme Spread "larger".
      Again, I'm not a statistics expert, and usually saw these numbers as CP and CPK for the automation equipment industry, where I spent some good years. They are roughly the ways of seeing a process reliability or repeatability (CP), and then considering how it does in reaching a target value group in addition (CPK).
      Just realized I need more statistics training. Best of luck.

      @@waynehendrix4806 Wayne, Thank You for your explanation to my Comments. But I would hope the creators of these Videos would add this sort of explanation within their explaining what they discovered while testing the item in their video. I personally know these terms, but there are bound to be new viewers who watch a video like this one we which is clearly not designed for the new reloader, or the new long distance shooter. Like reading a load manual there is the introduction section and there it may explain these terms for the new reloader. Then there is the glossary that can expand the meaning of the same ballistic terms which have meaning to someone using an means to measure ones fired bullets as they leave their rifle barrel. Without such tools these terms have little meaning. The new shooter, reloading his own should know this. So they can eventually purchase these tools. Thank you for your explanation I hope there will be new shooters and reloader’s reading the comments section, as we do.

      As Bob Fast said, "Accuracy vs Precision"
      Accuracy is mostly a function of the optic and precision a function of everything else. One the combo is found that gives you the best precision, the accuracy of the POI (Point of Impact) can be adjusted with the optic.

    Just a thought. but unless you need to be using magneto speed get a lab radar :) works a lot better. no potential harmonic issues due to hanging something off your barrel.

    You know dude I really love your vids, butt, it sometimes aggravates me. I can’t even get powder to reload for pistols let alone rifles. My local gun store, online always out. I could buy that powder In gunbroker and pay the gouges their pound of flesh but that is never going to happen, I’ll stop shooting before that happens. I’m really aggravated by this lack of service by these Companies who should be taking care of their customers but are not.
