As a Gorillaz fan I feel always very happy when someone tries to explain this psychedelic feeling, it’s a unique experience, isn’t it? By the way at 5:57 you pointed about the animations and the chose of keep the rapper as a holographic person and about it: did you know gorillaz has a behind story? and with song machine (the project and album’s name) it isn’t different. But because of pandemics they had to change the project of bringing so many artists from different places together, so they used some kind of portal but this portal has collateral effects and it acts differently in each one that uses it. Elton became a cartoon, same as 2D and 6lack became something like a holographic person. I know I shorted a lot the behind history but you can search it better if you like. :)

And just an FYI gorillaz is only 2 people , the singer who's Damon Albarn and the animator, forgot his name. But yeah , Damon Albarn was also the lead singer of a band called blur back in the day. Who are also amazing
I love Gorillaz. This song is a masterpiece with that piano and eletronic mixed together. I just think that 6lack could be a little less autotuned, but besides that, its wonderful. He and Elton John sound great

Gorrilaz aren't defined by a genre, I highly recommend checking out their other songs if you haven't already. They have folk, R&B, Rap, Progressive Rock, etc songs going on in their library. They experiment with everything.

I think that the best way to describe the type of music that Gorillaz makes is this, "I have no clue." The band was made partly because Damon Albarn (he voices 2D and is the most consistent member of the band) was really bored with the stuff he was doing at the time so he made a band with Jamie Hewlett (he draws all the characters) in which he would do whatever he wants and not stick to any type of genre . The other reason he made the band is he thinks that when people start to idolize the artists more than the music people will allow awful music because they like the artist. REJECT FALSE ICONS is a documentary about Gorillaz, it's on youtube in three parts and i highly suggest it. Gorillaz btw is just a random assortment of people each album under the disguise of the Gorillaz characters (2D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel). Great video I'm gonna go subscribe now!

In the Gorillaz music videos features are almost never animated, its always their real selfs interacting with the band, with a few exceptions. In my opiniom EJ is animated cause he is such a legendary musician. But that's my interpretation.
Damon and Jamie have been masters for decades of trying new sounds and taking people who you wouldn’t expect to sound good together (separate or opposite genres) and blending them beautifully! Every album or project gorillaz does is beautiful even in their failures. Pink phantom is definitely an amazing piece and shows off that special skill they have. Gorillaz definitely have no genre and that’s what makes them top tier
