I don’t know who the “best” skier is. But this is some amazing footage. This Kuch dude throws down.
There is a fluidity there that is mesmerizing. I don't see the decision making, it is like he is flowing down the mountain. Every twist, turn and flip feels predetermined and spontaneous at the same time.
Can't talk about the best, without talking about Candide.
Hard to call someone 'the best' while Candide is still around. But this guy is pretty damn good.

As far as big mountain skiers go ....... absolutely off the charts! I grew up watching the likes of Scott Schmidt and Glen Plake open our eyes to a whole new level of skiing. This was the first time I've seen Sam ski and my mind is absolutely blown away. The same way I was when I watched those guys tear up Squaw and Jackson Hole.

Outstanding skier! Definitely one of the best. However the title belongs to Candide Thovex. No one makes skiing looks as effortless as him

I concur, bold statement and it’s Matchstick’s title that got my view lol but yeah Candide has even been taking down some of the clips due to the stomping. No one charges like Candide, this kid is out of this world amazing and his flow looks so effortless- no doubt one of the best out there but Candide is still the GOAT.

it's such an unhelpful, divisive title. What a shame after an amazing video. Very big jumps! Very impressive. When i see his videos in future I know they will be great. With a title like this you force me to think of the racers who finished the Kitzbuhel downhill last weekend with a 85m, 145kph jump where the wind was trying to push their skies over their head, or underneath them, like unfortunately happened to Urs Kryenbühl.
I'm going to vote for Shiffrin... Multiple Olympic gold medallist and world champion... has won world cup events in all 6 racing disciplines - slalom, giant slalom, downhill, super-G, combined, and parallel slalom. 17 wins in a season.... more to come.

Edit: I was too grumpy. MSP have been making amazing ski videos for decades, and a lot of the time people could / did watch them without paying... so if they want to do some clickbait here and get more views, I think they deserve it. Thank you for a very nice video!

i dont even really love skiing (i do both, but I will always LOVE snowboarding more) but this guy....sheesh...any day every day, I will buy him a beer until the end of time

Incredible skier, and he's gonna get better cuz he's still young. None of this stuff was possible with the skis I grew up on... love watching all these young athletes push the envelope.
if not the best one of the best I have seen. This is skiing not the multiple videos where the guys are braking the whole way down. Like someone else said "good flow."

Wow, a really amazing free skier. Is Sam the best skier in the world? I think he would have to prove himself more to achieve that pedestal. Beating the Marcel Hirscher's of the world would not be easy, and a slalom or GS course has no powder after 100 other guys go down it first.
The most important thing is doing it for the Spirit of the Presence - I remember when we used to do S turns and now it is all speed and tricks, but great Job Awesome skier!

Amazing flow and talent. Definitely next level riding but sorry, this kid doesn’t charge anywhere near as hard as the GOAT Candide Thorvex. Close but all I could think watching his silky smooth moves was how much harder Candide would stomp most of those lines.

Correct. But Sam is probably almost if not totally equal, At least when it comes to freestyle. I have never seen candide pull such dramatic 3's and 7's off such gnarly terrain. Sam is at the top as well.
Wouldn't say he is the best by any means, but he might squeak into my top 5 free ride skier. Could be number 1 some day though who knows. Obviously everyone's opinion is different.

The comp to decide the "best skier" is the Freeride World Tour....props to Candide for entering the tour and slaying it his rookie year. Its all about the tour and I am surprised not to see more tour members name dropped in the comments.
Thing is, this is a subjective thing. It's not like a race, where there is a clear winner. To me it's about the healthy competition of people pushing each other to new levels. Kuch is clearly a guy pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Bunch of haters on here living in the past. Ive watched a shit load of ski videos, edits, movies etc. and there is a lot of insane skiers out there. This guy though pulls off a trick on basically every feature he encounters and I havent seen a lot of guys doing that. Sure they can all do the same tricks and land it, but this is different. Id put him close to the top 3. I would still put Candid at number one though. That guy is just unreal.

I think it’s a bold statement, I would say he is definitely up there i just don’t know how you judge it without a world extreme comp. I would love to see him team up with Candide he is of the same talent and skill for sure! Me I’ll just stick to being average like the other 99% of skiers.
