      Hey Neko, thanks for stopping in and posting a comment. Ya its one thing to install a PC but another to tweak it for increased horsepower. I only wish there were more videos on CZcams going more in depth, i guess its left up to me to do so. Onec i get my laptop up and running i plan on doing some live tuning and getting some footage on the net for others to follow.

    Hi, really interesting videos. I've followed your entire powercommander installation. I just bought a gsxr 1000 k7 and what I know is already mapped but i Will compare the map that is in now with the map that the powercommander has on their website. but if I'm going to change the buttom mode, can i see how they were adjusted earlier? Before i do a new adjustment ?

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Před 6 lety +2

      Nicke Enlund Mazanik, all good questions. The map that came with the bike you can always save to your home PC and have a back up copy. Just connect the PC3 to your PC and hit retrieve map, it will display the map settings (fuel trims) throughput the RPM range. From there click save map and store it on your Pc. From here you can either open up and 2nd power commander app and compair the downloaded to the one on the PC3 or just take a screen shot and Paste it into a word doc like i did in the video.
      If you have the previous owners number i would give him a call and see if the map was created by a dyno certified tech.. if it was you dont want to mess with it.. that map would be tuned specifically for optimal performance of your bike.. cost for a dyon tunned map is like $300.

    Great video James. I have the same bike as you. Mods K&N and Tsukigi slip on. No PCIII installed yet. It dynoed at 125hp and 55ftlb torque. Interesting thing was at 3-4k rpm range it was running lean, but after that it ran on the rich side. Like you said, the only way to see the true AFR is on the dyno. So, basically I have a flat spot off idle and then the power kicks in with stock ECU. Just waiting on the PCIII to arrive and then back to the Dyno to verify AFR correction.

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Před 5 lety

      From my understanding programming the buttons themselves (level of control) with the PCIII software is not possible. Additionally ive never taken the time to see just how much each press of a button increases the fuel amount in the verious RPM range, that would be a good test to perform to. see the live data roll across the screen.

  • @vincentmeredith2561
    @vincentmeredith2561 Před 4 lety

    This is nice but if you go into the program on the laptop you can fine tune it by modifying the map i played with mine in the map on the computer didnt do the best job cause now i run a little rich so im just gonna go into it this weekend and bring the map back to what dynojet uploaded

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Před 4 lety

      Tru But I find map tweaking is all subjective. Where the truth lies is on the dyno where you can see the real numbers. What I haven't done, and hope to get around to is putting the bike on the computer with a fresh stock map from dyno jet and pushing these buttons to see what exactly does Increase when messing with these buttons. This should give you a good idea after review of how you can tweak your map for better gains.

    I got a K7 1000. I never adjusted the PC. I noticed that my bike runs rich, to the point where I smell like gas when I get off my bike sometimes. I need help adjusting my levels.

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Před 4 lety

      Using the instructions in the video check and see what levels the PC are at.. all baseline levels (middle point) should bring down the richness and foulingof the plugs. From there you can test ride and increase the gains till you hit that sweet spot.
      Also you may want to consider running a hotter plug. This made a huge difference in my fouling and it's very rare now that I get any black plugs. I'm running NGK coppers now.
      Speaking of exhaust smell, my old engine with 98k miles on it.. use to tell me when it was time for an oil change.. i change my oil at every 3000 miles and as soon as I hit about 3k miles the bike would start producing the heavy exhaust smell so much that my clothes and body held the odor well after any ride. I actually liked the engine this way cuz I would never forget to do my oil changes at the proper mileage.. if you have a high milage bike this same thing may be occuring.. but at any rate you should be changing out the oil every 3k miles..
      Let menk now how it works out..

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Před 11 dny

      Well to be honest, if your not seeing any advers readings from your spark plugs then your bike is running as it should. Remember, black plugs means to rich and white plugs means to lean.... the sweet spot is the brown eye..Ooops... ment Brown color.. tehe. I added my PCIII because the bike was running really rich and fouling my plugs.. I would get back from a ride and stink like exhaust, not to mention I could smell the extra fuel being spent during my ride.
      I added the PCIII and switched to copper plugs and that fixed everything... copper burns hotter. But if you feel you need to tweak, then you may just want to place all levels at the ZERO mark, This is DJ version of stock a stock setting.. But again, read your plugs.. that will tell you what direction you need to go.

      @TheChemistDIY  Před 5 lety +1

      Tomas, let me try and understand what you are saying you bought a used PCIII and had it dynoed and now your bike is running rich?!?!?!? Dont understand how that can be if done professionally.
      How are you indicating that its running rich? (Symptoms)
      Putting the bike on a dyno is the only sure fire way to tune your bike optimally with PCIII. Everything else is pure guesstimation reallly.
      Are you sure you have the correct map loaded for your bike & mods? Exhaust/air filter..
      If it were me. I would load the zero map to diagnose if the PClll is faulty. Loading the zero map would be like if the PC wasnt there, returning the bike to stock so to speak with the PC still connected. The bike should run normally, if it doesnt then disconnect the PC and connect everything normally.. bike should run fine indicating a faulty PCIII.
      You can also try dropping all the levels (Low,Med,High) using the indicator green lights and see if your rich condition goes away. Then raise them up till you get to the rich condition and then back it down just below it. Of course this requires a lot of test riding to find the sweet spot of each of the 3 levels but remember this is just the throttle position increased or decreased by like 2% per green bar.

    Without properly dynoing the bike you are just asking for trouble mate... How do you know whats A/F ratio? Also adding fuel doesnt really give you power. its the right AF mix that does...

    • @evanwalsh8808
      @evanwalsh8808 Před 2 lety +6

      When you add aftermarket full exhaust/drop in filters you're increasing air flow, thus, increasing the amount of air present in the engine. Under those conditions, you will run into lean AF mixtures. So in order to balance that, you will need to add a bit more fueling while under load. In any case, checking spark plugs is a very good indicator in how well your mixture is and you can judge it off of that... Mate.

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Před 6 lety +1

      Great question, to tell you the truth the only way to know for sure it to crack open the power commander software and take a peek to see what has changed when you increase or decrease full during live testing, something I'm planning on doing this weekend if time permits. I'll be sure to make a video on that as well so stay tuned. I've been wondering myself where the cut off point is in the throttle position as well. If you do the math and divide 0-100 or 100 (WOT) by 3 (number of buttons) the cut off points in the throttle position would be at 33/66/100, of course this is not very accurate nor does it tell you the RMP range side of things. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you but you are going to get a video out if shortly..

    • @Loopyengineeringco
      @Loopyengineeringco Před 3 lety +1

      The low/mid/high refers to RPM ranges, not throttle input (says this in the manual). Not sure how the ranges are blended, but I imagine it's a smooth interpolation over 2 or 3k rpm as opposed to a hard switch

One version of it allows you to program just with accessory on and the other requires the bike to be running, you will know which one you have if try to program the PC and it turns off on you in accessory only mode.This is just to give the PC contiguous power but you can achieve this with the attached 9 volt battery connection.

    • @TheChemistDIY

      The color of your spark plugs will tell you everything you need to know (white, black or wet black oily). Also there is a different distinct odor from the exhaust between each ( to rich or to lean) .. While not always present there may also be present white or black smoke when you rev the bike up. Once you have these tell tale signs committed to memory you can pretty much diagnose any fuel/spark related issue.

    Is this correct in your opinion mate?

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Před 4 lety

      I've never heard of this myself Bruce, but it maybe true if we dissect the steps. The stock ECM sends the pulse to the injectors which is now being intercepted by the PC3 via the injector connectors and TPS signal. The PC3 then gathers that information and runs it through the new dynojet map and re-translates it for better performance. If the PC3 has a learning function then it would need to gather a certain amount of data, 20 minutes of ride time as stated by your mechanic to make a comparison of what would good for optimal performance of you riding machine. So this could be very well true.. I for one have never delved that deep into how the PC3 begins to translate the data... but I can see your mechanics logic in your mechanics statement.

      Hey Kevin, what's the condition of your PC3 usb. I only ask this because some people put them in the engine bay rather then the trunk of the rear seat. The engine bay gets really hot and is exposed to the elements causing warping of the outer shell plastic and button contact pads.
      My suggestion is if it's not going into program mode, crack the unit open and inspect the button contact pads and surface of where they touch on the circuit board to insure there good. Also while you're in there take some electrica lcontact Cleaner or 90% alcohol and with a Q-tip give both a little rub down cleaning.. I know it sounds impossible but they may just need a little cleaning to make a good connection when pressed.

      @TheChemistDIY  Před 6 lety +2

      Jereme Sebero good question, no not at all but adding to much fuel at the wrong points may cause you some problems. For example from a take off you reallly dont want to be dumping in a shit-ton of fuel, this would cause the injectors to flood the cylinders with large amouts of gas its not ready for thus stalling or bogging the bike. If that occurs you would need to just back it down a bit. Instead you would want to add more fuel in the prime spots of the rpm range when the bike is in motion say like in 2nd gear around 5k rpms to give you that quick boost. Hope that answers your question.

      This is a hard question to answer simply because back pressure is unknown. The job of the PC3 is to give you the best air to fuel mix ratio for performance and with nothing to compare it to thats hard to do. Realistically the only way to get that is to put the bike on a dyno and see where it works. For now my suggestion would be to try using the most free flowing exhaust map and then tweaking it with using either the 3 buttons on the PCIII or really diving deeper and tweaking it using a computer. Back pressure is mostly needed for lower end rather then higher speeds and youll notice this before your tweaks (slower take off or launch).. once u start tweeking the bike should get faster in its launch. . Hope that helps.

      @@Xtreme_Mudding_ATV Got it... So the 3 buttons are only going to make small adjusment variations based off the map stored on the PCIII (Its a program within the map). You cant really program the map with these button because you dont know what those incraments are and exactly where in the RPM ranges or throttle twist that they take place... At best your just guessing what feels more powerfull... Hence why you have the PCIII App.. With the App you will be able type those numbers into the cell table manually.... and to do this corretly it needs to be done live while the bike is running.
      I never got around to making the video that shows what each press of thses buttons did or added I should say to increased HP. Thats what we really need to know.
      Now when I made the adjustments you see in the video, I was able to get rid of my rich condition with the settings you saw but this was only after trial and error. What you didnt see was the "over time" part of me taking the bike out for test rides for a few weeks, pulling plugs and checking them and so forth... Thats movie magic as they say.. Some want to just turn these buttons up to max... ya did that to... no bueno, dont do it... Flood city and you end up smelling like gas and exhaust when you get off your bike.. not to mention the bad headach that comes with sucking in these fumes.
      Now if your looking for increased ponies and dont want to pay a dyno tunner. I suggest you hop on the forums and ask to purchase a tunned map from someone. This would be better then just blind tune guessing.
