    Firstly, so nice to see a review for older grades. Secondly, so refreshing to see a realistic work load AND a realistic perspective on some of these subjects. Thank you!!!! I’m overwhelmed with my son starting yr 7 next year, it just seems so big! 😅

      @@tharris04 you're so welcome! I know it seems like a lot to handle making decisions about what seems best for our students! We all just have to research as much as we can and make adjustment along the way if needed! 😊

    💯% Denison Algebra is the best thing to happen to our homeschool! It really is life changing. My seventh grader did Pre Algebra this year got 100 on almost every test. Ended the year with a 99 average! Mr Denison explains everything so well, has fun songs to remember tips on how to solve problems, and is engaging and funny. They watch a video, pause it to work on some problems, Mr Denison goes over it then you do the assignment. The solutions manual has all the answers written out exactly as they should be solved and also have solutions videos. I highly recommend it! My son will be doing Algebra 1 next year, and my daughter is so excited to start pre algebra!

      This sounds great! Very helpful for me thank you. I've heard great things about Denison and this helps me not to dread the upper grade maths as much!

    so glad to see this review! I picked some of the same curriculum for the upcoming year for my soon to be 7th grader. This makes me feel better about my choices!

    We started IEW Structure and Style in 4th grade with boy of our boys. I would say in listening to you talk about the struggles from this year, it sounds like a heart issue not a curriculum issue. Getting to the root of why he's giving you push back would be key in being successful and having good relationships. You have to do hard things and things you don't enjoy, that's life, having the right attitude is important.

    My oldest just finished 6th grade and we've been using IEW for a few years. We do it every other week otherwise we would have burned out. I think writing a paper every 2 weeks is more than enough.

      I agree it is a lot of work to do each week! But there are some really beneficial parts I found. Sadly, when you have a student who isn't working with you, it definitely can make it even harder!

    Denison math has been life changing for my kids who are old enough! Sounds dramatic but it’s so true.

      Denison math I've also heard great things about. It is one I will definitely be considering! Thanks for your comment!

      Same here. My oldest is using it for Algebra 2. I wish I had found it sooner. It really is life changing! My son told me last night that this is the first math he truly understands. I regret not using it sooner because I don’t think math would have been such a struggle for him all these years if we had used Denison from the beginning of high school.

    I agree with you on TGTB. We save those units for co-op or an outside science class.

    Thank you for sharing. We haven’t used anything from IEW yet. I was interested to learn and understand more about fix it when you said you can go into the program deeper, I’d love to know what you mean and what’s activities that would entail. How do you use it to the max? I’ve only heard you look for the things to change and then edit and write the sentence below.

    • @shinebrighthomeschool5785
      @shinebrighthomeschool5785  Před měsícem +1

      Yes, you do have one sentence up to a few to correct each lesson. It isn't overwhelming for the workload. The teacher's guide gave more to teach on if needed. In the videos which we got for part of the program, it just focused on the writing and composition and not the grammar side. So the teacher's manual for Fix It Grammar has more teaching if you feel like it is necessary. It more focuses on the parts of speech and where and what is appropriate to use. If you watch my full video that looks inside IEW/Fix it Grammar, it may give you a bit more insight. Hope this helps you! Let me know if you have more questions. 😊

    I would recommend starting IEW with level A instead of level B unless they are already a strong writer. Level A builds a lot slower. Even if your child is in middle school, I would recommend starting with level A. 😊

    So definitely IEW doesn't work for everyone and that's totally ok but I will say, if I'm understanding you right and this was your first year using it, it's actually super important to start with the first set, year 1 level A. I started my 7th grader on that one based on the recommendations directly from customer service of IEW, and it was the right choice even though I was worried about the "grade levels" they were giving for it. If you don't start at the beginning for IEW, that will definitely be rough. Just an observation - but there's lots more great options out there to choose from.

    • @shinebrighthomeschool5785
      @shinebrighthomeschool5785  Před měsícem

      Yes definitely best to start earlier in my experience, we are trying something completely different we've never tried before and I will be sharing on my channel soon!

    We're doing IEW 1B for my upcoming 9th grader... it's a love-it-or-hate-it curriculum, IMO. My son hated it but is a natural writer. My daughter has ADHD and needs structure, so I think she will do well with it. We shall see.... but she needs to get on a high school writing level, so I'm hopeful.

      I really hope it does work well for your daughter too. It seems to work amazing for some or not at all for others like you say. Which is sad because for me, it would have helped me so much in school. I was hoping the same for my son 🤷🏻‍♀️🙏🏻.
