This is always such a shock to hear her sing this so well with her gargantuan instrument, it's great how she skips through the coloratura like it's her thing..

Drama and power just like Verdi wanted

Like how? With that extremely weak low register? No trills? No Coloratura? Verdi would HATE this.

Were the artists singing in real time with the accompaniment of recorded orchestral music? Or were they recorded as well and they were only acting in the telecasts?

I can’t say if the orchestra was pre-recorded (although my guess is it’s not), but she is definitely singing live here :)

No one thrills in this role like Nilsson. Who gives a fig if the coloatura is not given its full due. Really. The coloratura is astonishing, I think.

no, noone even comes close to Callas in this aria and opera macbeth in general

sloppy coloratura but for such a massive voice-very impressive attempt. Every rendition of this aria makes you understand how impressive that 1953 Callas live recording is.

a real staged performance by the queen of glacial terror might have have been more compelling.
her heart isn't really in this.
she's too detached here, maybe because it's just a televised program showcasing a few select arias.
