All throughout the series, in different ways, they kept telling Charlie to be happy. But he's justified in his anger, he's been put through increasingly nasty torture by two cube demons who nearly killed him. He was right to be angry, and that anger was what finally sealed them away for good.
@@MixxedBerries It's such an awesome moment because of that. It's the only time in the series where they aren't in a position of power and they genuinely look concerned
They look more surprised than anything. It looks something on the lines of "did you do it?" "I thought you were doing it" because basically anything weird that happens is related to those two and they are surprised to see this isn't.
I have to say… I love this ending so, so much. It’s all about “hey, just be happy, and I PROOOOOOOOMIS I will solve all the problems you’ve had. The ones that came around because of me, and that you weren’t happy in the first place.” And Charlie just goes; “No. No, fuck you, I’m gonna solve this shit. And I don’t give a shit how it happens.”
There's a lesson here; respect your negative emotions. If you have no reason to be happy, don't force yourself to smile and laugh. The only way things can get better is if you acknowledge and express your problems. Nobody had to teach this lesson to Charlie, he already did it on his own. But now he's taught that lesson to us.
It wasn’t shown since it would’ve ruined the moment, but according to an AMA film ow did on Reddit the unicorn corpses the cubes were inhabiting just sorta… fell to the ground during this. The cubes themselves got trapped.
I love that Charlie is able to finally get back at the two demons, after all the hell they've caused with him and everyone. Also this song is just so epic and cool. It's like honoring your own emotions, and speaking out against toxicity at the same time. Charlie took his power back, and now everyone's all free.
And even tho the world is desolate and destroyed, it’s real. Which is more than pink and blue can say about the fabricated reality they created for Charlie.
Really was a satisfying way to wrap everything up. The twist with Cube Demons behind everything just feels right at home. Whether or not Jason thought of the two unicorns tragically being corpse puppets all along when the first episode graced our screens so many years ago matters little as unlike so many things with random twists and turns it doesn't feel misplaced which is very impressive.
Yeah, the chaos cube demons had a lot of victims. They show frame cuts at the end of the last episode where they visited and everyone is gone or dead. I suspect even the magical cat is dead as the chaos spirits were designed to siphon magic and they went straight to the most powerful magic places and creatures to destroy them and take their magic. Every creature that did a song and dance for Charlie was pretty much an animated corpse victim from the chaos demons. Magic is pretty much gone from the world and with the chaos spirits gone even their creations like Candy Mountain can be seen withering away. But.... I suppose the world still has Charlie.
This song is fantastic, and was a real wake-up call for me. It made me realise how insidiously gaslighting works. When powerful people try to erase your feelings they are trying to destroy your most intrinsic form of autonomy. Feeling bad sucks, but often it’s an important emotion because it allows you to tell when you’re being abused. It’s necessary to not being passive and complacent in a terrible situation.
Sounds like Charlie is singing about something deeper. Being told there is a "normal" way to feel but outside forces prevent that; Some of those sources perhaps being the very people pretending to care.
Charlie has to be one of my favorite heroes in all of CZcams, if not fiction. Granted, he is not my number 1 but he is such a unconventional protagonist but still great. Before the final, we were able to emphasize with Charlie because 1. We all know those annoying people like Pink and Blue who track you into something and 2. In basically all of those, he stayed true to his grumpy personality. Now, in the finale, he was able to be this worlds hero not through learning to fake being happy or just thinking happy thoughts, but saying “This world sucks, I’m not going to pretend it isn’t despite everyone telling me otherwise.” I hope there will at least be a web comic of the aftermath of the final episode where Charlie meets other people and tries to help rebuild the world he is in, but that’s just my opinion.
The last song in the series being sung by Charlie himself is a great twist on its own, but I also appreciate how the jazzy beat reflects his character, and the lyrics are him rebelling against the lesson he was 'supposed' to embrace, going so far as to (rightly) accuse the people that blamed him for not being happy of destroying the world. And in the end, he's right. He saves the day just by being completely honest about what he's feeling instead of bending to what everyone else wanted from him.
i doubt its supposed to be that deep but these lyrics kinda feel, idk... relatable? told that the problems with us that were miserable while big corporations and stuff destroy the planet and whatnot
In Twitter, Jason Steele mentions that the capitalist mindset was a major inspiration to this finale, and about how wizard Charlie the Unicorn’s mindset is not unique and that is how the cubes so easily take power
I feel like there are two major themes: one is about the corporations and it's limited to the finale, the other big one that accompanies poor charlie since episode 1 is t how depressed people struggle and try to cope while everyone else just fails to understand their anguish and keep telling to just be happy (the candies) ignore their problems (banana king) and that since they're loved everyone's gonna be okay (the sea song) I think the millipede is also a parody of some kind, since those people are usually self centered and can't feel empathy towards anyone that doesn't feel as good as them. The whole finale just puts this to another level, while adding a lot of lore an other themes. It's also worth noting that nyx faced the same trials as charlie, being tortured by the demons and ultimately killed, and that broke him.
