In the book when Finnick is giving Peeta mouth to mouth, Katniss doesn't know what he's doing and thinks he's kissing Peeta. One of the best things in the book imo 😂
I laughed so hard at that scene in the book because she literally says that she’s shocked by the sight of Finnick kissing Peeta and I laughed so hard my dad looked at me like I was insane and maybe I am

Katniss wants to save Peeta because she believes that he is genuinely a good person and deserves to live more than she does. She also has strong feelings for him but doesn’t fully realize it yet. Also the kiss on the beach is what Katniss feels is their first real kiss 😭🖤 !
But Katniss was a good person to give Rue a burial and volunteer to save Prim and do anything to protect her little sister
@@nmoney6655 Oh yeah Katniss definitely is a good person but she doesn’t believe that herself and wouldn’t see those actions as good, rather something she did without needing to think about it (which is what makes her a good person). Katniss unfortunately has a lot of self loathing going so she doesn’t recognize her own good traits and judges herself pretty harshly.
no girl, the kiss on the beach is what katniss feels like her "second" real kiss, the one in the first games (third kiss on the books) is what she feels like it is her first kiss

“Not them just laying up together” EXACTLY! Katniss is down bad for Peeta and she don’t even know. She’s like ‘if I’m gonna die, I’m gettin some lovin in beforehand’ 💀
Their love story really started here, Katniss later realises that she did have intense feelings for him that started during the victor tour and I think the turning point was Peeta’s speech about them trying to be friends, he came such a long way from the first films where he’s more assertive and confident and basically tired of being treated by Katniss as broken after what happened in the cave when he nearly died in the first film (i feel like the first film trivialised just how near death Peeta was in that cave like he had to have his leg amputated and got a new bionic leg when they got out of the arena and was literally grey and dying before she got his medicine from the cornucopia)
Ugh yes the books really helped sell it for me!! Maybe that's why I like these movies so much, because I have all the background knowledge to make it real 😫😫

Ok but Jennifer and Josh have amazing chemistry, their interviews during this time used to be chaotic and top tier 😂😭.
This film is definitely the best imo, it’s so nerve wracking and finnick was such an interesting addition
And idk if anyone’s commented this yet but the books go more into detail of haymitchs games, he won the 50th hunger games so the 2nd quarter quell and they doubled the tributes. and he won by accidentally finding a flaw in the arena and exploited it (he had found out the edge of the arena, which was up on high cliffs, was like a boomerang forcefield so anything that went down would be shot back up) so in his final 1v1 with a tribute they were up on that cliff and the tribute had thrown a weapon at haymitch and he like ducked out of the way and the axe i think it was went off the cliff and came back up and landed in the tributes head.
so even though it was completely unintentional, and purely out of survival what haymitch did, Snow saw it as an act of rebellion and had Haymitch’s girlfriend and his family killed. And then after all of that in forced year after year to chauffeur young kids to their deaths, like i understand why my guy drinks xD
also that was just from memory and im very high so if anything’s not accurate, doesn’t make much sense or anyone wants to add on more information about this or other stuff that just couldn’t make the movies pls do!!:))

I remember reading that. I don't remember which book. But, also Joanna said, "He can't hurt me. There's no one left that I love." referring to Snow because Snow had been killing other victor's families and friends in order to keep them in line. He'd done something to Annie too. I always wondered why he didn't kill Prim and her mother rather than asking Katniss to pretend to be in love with Peeta.
@mjamitche5245 the people of the Capital love Prim. It would be too soon after Katniss volunteered for her sister to kill her off. And it was implied that he would slowly pick off people the victors loved so he still had leverage over them.

I honestly just wish we’d gotten more scenes of them together, like this movies is basically perfect but we only get to see Peeta and Katniss in the ‘honeymoon phase’ of their relationship for a few scenes before Peeta gets taken by the Capitol and there’s that turning point in their relationship whereby Peeta is never really the same again and it breaks my heart

So the reason why Peeta was who Katniss wanted saved so badly is because she sees him as the ‘good’ one. He’s the one who saved her life when she was younger and she doesn’t really believe she deserves to come out of this alive with all her ptsd and her guilt over murdering others. Her family is taken care of and that was her main motivation of survival in the first. She wants him to live and she spends a lot of time imagining his future in the book, thinking he would be an amazing father and deserves to have a family. Plus, there’s the added guilt that in the first book, Peeta survives the games but loses his leg partially from protecting her. Haymitch, Effie and Katniss are protective over him because he’s still adjusting to that. They didn’t add it to the movie but it was part of why she wanted to protect him.
the parallels omg, in the first film peeta throws bread onto the muddy ground and katniss still takes it bc of starvation yet in catching fire, he can now ask her if she would like some bread, but she declines as she alrdy ate, since food is now a luxury she can afford😮😮
Peeta did the mural of Rue on the floor to prove to the Capital that they didn’t forget what the Capital did to the children AND to piss Katniss off so much that she got her fire burning for her own trials. He knew it would trigger her into fighting back bc he knew she was feeling so broken.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD
The reason why I love this film and the book is the development we see between Katniss and Peeta’s relationship. When Snow told Katniss to convince him that they were truly in love, the moment when Peeta hit the forcefield and his heart stopped confirmed this that she loves him and that’s why in the third book and film, Finnick says that that’s the moment he realised that she loved him, thus giving Snow the Leverage he needs to use Peeta as a tourturing device for Katniss in the last two movies
i agree with you, this is why i love catching fire so much as well, but you might want to put a spoiler alert cuz a lot of what youre talking about happens in the next movie, not this one
Snow got so much beef with a whole 16-17 year old girl, like it’s embarrassing for him 😔 (also you IMMEDIATELY falling in love with Finnick the second he came on screen is so real)

Right his backstory makes his drinking make total sense. Obviously it isn't healthy but it's probably preventing him from killing himself from the PTSD and grief😭🥹
I was sold when Peeta heart stopped. She trembled more in that moment than she did the entire series.

in the books people love Peeta and they also cheer for him on the parade but for some reasons in the movie they didn't
also Peeta lost his legs in the book the one that got injured in the previous movie that's why he struggle a little more on this one (at least in the book)
Ngl I think it’s fascinating that were it not for the game maker, snow might have figured out how to defeat katniss (or at least destroy her image in the eyes of the districts) once and for all.
Had he leaned into the “she’s not a leader, she’s just trying to save her own skin” path he may have won. If the districts thought their beacon of hope, HAS no hope…then that beacon is just another lie the games evoke in the people to tell themselves to feel better and hang on. Their little bit of hope, keeping them contained and harmless like snow talked about to Seneca in the first book.
If their symbol of resistance, has no intention to resist the oppression shes under and therefore is seen as unfit to BE their symbol, then the battle would be considered to be lost before it’s even begun.

Peeta has my whole heart🤭
I think there’s a few reasons that combine to make Katniss want Peeta saved so badly in the second games.
In the first games, Haymitch is basically backing one winner out of the two tributes to focus resources on. He thought Katniss had the best chance so that’s why Peeta never got any parachutes before Katniss turned up and there was a possibility of them both winning. Katniss felt guilty for this and tried to repay that in the second games.
Also, Katniss’s feelings for Peeta had been growing up until this point in the books because they were spending more time together which you don’t really see. Katniss had gotten hurt sneaking out to the forest, they turned the electric fence back on when they brought in all the whipping posts etc hoping to leave Katniss stranded outside the gate and she had to climb a tree and throw herself over the fence and she injured her leg and back etc. Peeta spent time looking after her and they made a book together of all the plants that Katniss knew, Peeta illustrated it and Katniss described their properties. It was very cute.
To tie with the first points, Katniss felt guilty that Haymitch favoured her in the first games, felt she owed Peeta a debt for saving her family with the bread, owed him a debt for helping to protect her from the career tributes in the games by teaming up with them and at this point, she also had feelings for him. I know the bread thing seems small but Katniss thinks about it all the time, the bread and Peeta symbolise hope for her in a way. The day after he gave her the bread, she saw Peeta at school and then saw a dandelion growing through the snow and realised that she needs to forage in the forest for food like her father taught her and she finally had hope her family would survive the harsh winter. She associates Peeta with the dandelion and the hope for the future after her fathers death.
In the books, she also thinks a lot about how she is a symbol of the rebellion and the spark that starts the fire but Peeta would make a much better long term leader type than her if she dies, this is shown much more in the book that Peeta is a great communicator and can easily use charm/wit to get out of situations or turn them in his favour. He’s very good in front of a crowd, giving speeches, making people like him etc.
I think it’s interesting that Snow says Katniss is a survivor only interested in saving her own neck but she’s willing to die to let Peeta win the games. In the books, by this point I was like girl you obviously love him!!
I am FOREVER SALTY that they took out that whole sequence of Katniss breaking her leg and Peeta and Haymitch lying to the peacekeepers for her. I get why they deemed it unnecessary, but it’s my favorite scene and shows how much they’ve grown into a little family. Also, Peeta bringing Katniss her favorite bread and helping her with the book while recuperating? 🥰
One thing I didn’t catch the first time I watched this movie is that the morphling sacrificed herself for Peeta because of Katniss. The rebellion knew how much Peeta meant to her and so they needed to save him so she would be in the right mindset to be able to be the face of the rebellion
