I will never - even to my dying day - be able to work out how Jerzy kept out Shevchenko's rebound in extra time. Amazing.
nucleargibbon god had a hand (two hands) in that save
instinct.. we just cant explain or understand it that how his hands didn't let that ball go into net
Some things are not meant to be explained.
i saw that at 0.25 speed ....still not able to digest what lead to the rebound
Best save I've ever seen and it went off his hand like it hit a wall
Dudek's save was inexplicable
Die hard AC Milan fan here, to this day, I still cannot believe what happened that night but I have come to accept it; it was also made possible because Liverpool is such a great team with a history that it makes it easier to accept; had it been like a disgraceful team like Chelsea or Juventus, I would have probably committed suicide (kidding). Also 2007 made it easier although that year, I must admit, Liverpool deserved the cup more; funny how football is, Milan deserved 2005 more and got 2007
Yes they way the ball went up off his hand at a right angle. CRAZY
It's unbelievable
Greatest Match of all time
+zoon nope.........it was today - liverpool against dortmund
KodziroHyuga Haha yea that was a fantastic game.
Revenge
Agreed. I genuinely don't think there was a single match better than istanbul
@@justsomevids4541 can't go wrong with that 😂
I remember watching that double save and dropping my beer. Still can't explain it.
Probably the condensation.
@@johnnyhammer hahhhaha legendary answer. Must not go unnoticed.
In da pub or home?
that and djimi saving off the line even as 15 yr old kid me and all the fambo were starting to know its written in the stars this one
When you have full concentration, full confidence and if you have the courage to watch the reaction of the player just before he shoot... then everything is possible 😉
I’m reading The Anthropocene Reviewed and after seeing this, I completely understand why John dedicated an essay to this match!
DUDEK DANCE
Dudek's save was combination of half lightning fast reaction and large amount of luck. Amazing save.
2005- minute 54...gerrard
minute 56...Smicer
2019-minute 54...Wjinaldum
minute 56...Wijnaldum
Football always has its unexplainable wonders ⚽️ ❤️
When i looked at the minutes i knew that it was destiny.
2nd goal scored by a player who came on substituting for an injured player. (Kewell --> Smicer; Robertson --> Wijnaldum)
And both Smicer and Wijnaldum put the ball in the net AGAIN later in the match.
Wjinaldum's header was identical to Gerrard's.
Forza Milan✌🏻💪🏻
Dudek will always be one of my favourite players for this game
In those days in Poland, when someone stood at the goal, they said "I'm Dudek". not Buffon, Barthez or Casillas. Idol.
Legendary Dudek
Legend AC Milan teams eh still pain after 11 years
Milan397 one of the best teams man for man to have ever lost a champions league final vs one of the worst teams to have won it. Still one of happiest days of my life.
But 2 years later was revenge bro 😉

Gerrard was untouchable that night. A real leader of men
To be fair Dudek was the star of the show here. The double save was fantastic, as was his save from the free kick and his shoot out performance.
ShookTheKop Also Carragher. Gave his best performance in Tue red shirt.
Hes pretty good when he doesnt slip
Why didn't he take the penalty....

Best CL match ive ever seen, Plus Dudeks double save I can never forget.
The best one i saw was the ajax vs tottenham 2019
2:24 Is the best save in footbal history.

I'm an Italian Milan's supporter and I still remember how I felt after that save. In that moment I knew that we lost the Final.
Martinez's save tops this easily tbh
When football TITANS were ruling Europe , Miss Milan & Liverpool in Champions League
we'll be back soon bro. i promise. YNWA 96
Those teams weren't as good as current Barca, Madrid or Bayern.
AC Milan wasn't the single best team of these era noooooooo...
Teofil Spiridon Why, because I think that a Milan team that very rarely won the serie A title wasn't that great?
csula no,because you have no respect towards football history.Barca, Real Madrid and Bayern won't stand a chance agains those "weak" teams ;)
Dida
Cafu , Stam , Nesta , Maldini
Pirlo , Gattuso (Rui Costa 112) , Seedorf (Serginho 86) , Kaka,
Shevchenko , Crespo (Tomasson 85).
How crazy squad was that.I believe it was the best ever.
Tale Sheva what Cafu??!?! Cafu plays today in Legia Warsaw.... WTF?!
Best team ever, up there with Barcelona '12 and Real Madrid '16... Maybe Liverpool '19 ;)
@@fvids9440 it's not the same cafü... Cafü was captain for Brazil when they lost to France in the '98 world cup final... With Roberto Carlos on the other side they were the best wing backs around at the time...
Bare in mind this was Kaka at his best, Pirlo when he had legs, Shevchenko at his best, Gattuso at his scariest, Crespo at his most fluent, Nesta at his best, Maldini and Seedorf at their peaks... Team full of leaders and legends and best around in each position... No team from any other era can honestly say they have a good chance to win, but Liverpool, with arguably a team of average players (+ Gerrard + Alonso + Hyypia) left them desperately chasing a goal for the last 60 of the champions league that season... It's the miracle of Istanbul globally, not just to Liverpool fans
Timmy Time Bayern 2013..

I still can't believe I didn't see the match live. I was working. Damn! Jerzy Dudek - YNWA
Bring back these guys even though they're old and retired and they'll still play better than today's Milan.
That dudek save without a doubt is the best save in history, bearing in mind the context of the save
LFC comeback and Dudek 🕺 - LEGENDARY. Best UCL final wver.
Happy birthday to the man who made it 5 times Dudek🔴🔴🔴🔴
this match is the best champions league match i ve ever watched....both the team were beast at that time
That body language by Steve G after his goal! That's how you make your teammates even sharper. I'm German and loved what happened in the WC final '14. But the most exciting match I've ever watched is for sure that one here. Magic
Anyone here from the Antropocene Reviewed?! Only John Green could tell a story so well that I looked up a match for a sport I don't care about where two teams I don't root for are playing and yet he has gotten me so pumped up I end up nearly in tears by the end of the clip!
I feel the exact same! I was listening to the episode while baking today and had to stop multiple times because i was just on the verge of sobbing. I don't care about soccer, or any sport for that matter, but theres just something so beautifully human in people caring about something so much that gets right into my heart
Claire I totally agree! ❤️ That vulnerability and deep caring is irresistible!
Legit only came here because of John Green
Me too. Just read that chapter.
Anyone here after the Anthropacene Reviewed?
World is full of surprises
What are you talking about?
@Johan Ralle there's a podcast hosted by John Green called "The Anthropocene Reviewed", in one of his eps, he tell a story of Dudek. Highly recommend podcast, good story telling.
Lmao yeah
first thing I googled after listening
Well done J Dudek and Liverpool, Unforgettable.
Jurek Dudek dziękuję za piękne chwile 🇵🇱👏
It's a shame to know that your team lost out on the greatest match of all time :(
after 2007 I don't think Milan lost in 2005, I think they contributed. We're at 1-1, hopefully one day we can have a 3rd final and enjoy all the memories together
I CAN watch this game over and over again. Back then as a Milan fan I was dumbfounded and heartbroken but looking back at its epicness this was a landmark in football history, a battle of titans and heroes. Can't wait to bore my kids with it:))

I remember I watched it with my dad. When Dudek did that legendary double save we exploded, started to cheer Dudek, as we are Polish. Then my mom stormed my room and yelled:
Shut the f...k up! I'm trying to sleep.
:)
Poor mom. Didn't notice history of football was made that day and few minutes later when Jerzy did his dance.

I was just 7 years old but i'll never forget. I was watching match with my father. Before Liverpool's first goal, Tv streaming broke off cause of rain. When we over came that problem, Liverpool scored 3rd goal. Both Liverpool and Milan were legendary teams.
i remember watching it with my brother my father and my uncle, i was 13 and my little brother who was an AC Milan fan (he still is) was 11, I remember that I wasn't a big football fan only rarely watched it but my brother was watching AC Milan every week he was excited all day about the game. And just to make it more interesting with my brother I rooted for Liverpool that day even though I had never seen them play before. Italian football was more popular at that time in my country Macedonia everyone at school was fan of an Italian Club. I remember after the penalty shootout when Shevchenko missed the penalty, my little brother started crying and he couldn't stop, so my father took him out for an ice cream so that he would calm down lol. Over the years I started to watch Liverpool more and became a fan at some point.
Best match ever! Thanks Dudek!
Anyone else here from The Anthropocene Reviewed?
Im watch this match live on tv in Poland and pray for Jerzy Dudek 🔥🇵🇱
LFC what a club, Gerrard what a goal and what a Captain, Smicer what a redemption on your last game and Dudek.......what can be said about Dudek except this was destined to be your moment, your hour, your legacy. Thank you. Thank you everyone associated with LFC this was an epic night that will resound through the ages. We had no right to win that match after the first 45 minutes. But that reaction from the fans and the team is exactly what makes LFC one of the greatest clubs in the world.
This match was like a tragic movie but it end well for Liverpool. I remember this night.Special night 😮🏆 One of most incredible Champions League Finals ever. + Symbolic Dudek Dance 🕺🧤 😄
10 yrs ago 10 years but i remeber everything from this match :)
+Hejter Hejter mam tak samo, ciężko uwierzyć kiedy to tak zleciało :D
The game that made me a liverpool fan. Will never forget it.
The way Liverpool won this Cup was incredible😄😄😄
I cried that night
The reboundshot of shevchenko was with his right foot. And that was his biggest mistake. He had to shoot it with his left foot. And he knew it. Thats why he missed the crucial penalty in the shoot out because he knew that he could win it in the extra time. He was already a broken man. Its a shame that ancelotti gave him a penalty. That was not verry smart. Man that match was really full with emotions. I cried in the end because im a big milan and sheva fan. Well done to liverpool. What a comeback.
This STILL gives me goosebumps!!
Was a crazy game. I was living in Liverpool, Aiigburth, spam valley. Anyway.. Went out for a ciggie during the shoot off and the city was silent. Totally, with the exception of a taxi powering to a TV.. It was the second half comeback. Milan destroyed Liverpool in the first half..Dudek and Gerard marking serghinio.
The most stressful 3 hours I ever had in a pub. But when Dudek saved the peno I screamed like a girl and hugged complete strangers. What a match
where are my john green fans at
August 2019..still watching this historical match.. i still remember that day.. i missed the 1st half..fell asleep..wen i woke up n switched on the TV i saw the score 3 - 0 LFC down..i so wanted to go back to bed.. but something, my faith in LFC pulled me n i watched it..i didn't regret..it's 1 of the best comeback i ever watched.. and lately against Barcelona..what a team.. proud to be a LFC fan..love from Mauritius 🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺
"You'll never walk alone", that magical night, those words came true!
*This is what COMEBACK looks like.* ♥️♥️
It’s not sheva’s initial header that was the crucial save. It’s the rebound. Jesus Christ how on earth did dudek keep that out. I’m sure andrey have nightmares about that even now
Definitely one of the BEST EVER come back from LIVERPOOL in Istanbul 2005! Watching live happily in tear!
That same DNA runs through the current Liverpool side! The never say die, the passion, the belief, the patience that Dudek speaks about....
It's at the heart of the club really! This, the 2006 FA Cup final, 5-4 Norwich City in the EPL, 4-3 Borussia Dortmund in the EL, 3-1 Olympiacos in the UCL in 2004, 4-3 against Barcelona, all of the comebacks in recent weeks, just fantastic!
Luis Garcia and Milan Baros combo IS SO GOOD at that time and what a save by Dudek
15 years later, this still hurts..
For me. Best final ever best game ever best comeback ever spurs fan respect
The best moment in the history of football. I miss those days.
Dudek is Liverpool legend!!
Dudek is my first idol. Thanks to him, many people in Poland started supporting LFC. It's a pity that Benitez didn't trust him. I am sure that after the UCL final, Jerzy would not make so many mistakes and would even be a mainstay of the Reds' defense. 💔😕
Neither Dudek could believe how he did save that ball, very fortunate
When you look at Liverpools team, Gerrard is probably the only player who would've got into the Milan side. That's what makes Istanbul so incredible, and that is why Rafa will always be a legendary manager.
Him and Alonso; also Dudek was far better than Dida
Are you crazy, man? Dida >>>>>>> Dudek
If Shevchenko scuffs his shot at 2:27, it goes in. If he skies it, it goes in. If he hits it into the ground, it goes in. Hell, if he trips over his own shoelaces, it more than likely bounces off him and in.
I can't think of any other instance in history where someone can hit the ball cleanly on the half volley from 3 yards out, and it give the goalkeeper a chance to save it.
leerobbo92 please remember how many Sheva scored goals in LC... its just happened. It was night for Liverpool
It was the first match i watch the champions league final, very good game and presure
I still can feel my tear until this day.
There was an interview with dudek, not this one, about how he stopt that spot kick from Shev. He just said “I went down later then usual and got lucky with the other hand “ .
His other interviews all ask the same question and he said he got lucky , as that’s what pens come down to.

I saw this match when I was 12. I thought only my father's anger which can make me cry. I can vividly remember that was the very first time I cried, cry of happiness of course, simply because of great football showed by two sides.
14 years on am I'm still scratching my head over this. The literal game of two halves. Dudek made several big stops, the one from Shevchenko at the very end of extra time a complete mystery. Glad he did it of course. Then that shocker penalty that brought the cup home to Merseyside. Along with the recent ECL semi against Barcelona at Anfield and the Brazil Germany world cup semi in 2014,a match I'll never forget or get my head round. Love it.
Dudek is a unforgetable goal keeper and i personally say he is the best who ever lived, saving the most critical in his path
Sadly benitez decided to replace him with riena

Without a doubt the greatest feat in the history of the Champions Cup🙌🏻, Liverpool's comeback against Milan, which was a great team in all its lines, was simply Historic 🔝🏆
Luckily I watched the whole match in TV LIVE. After first half, I was depressed but at the same time I imagined where there would be miracle to reverse in second half. Finally powerful reverse did happen. It's Great and Perfect.

After it finished, I absolutely knew it was THE MATCH! and it would stay it the common football memory forever!!!
