  • I compared the performance and battery life of Galaxy S24 vs Galaxy S23. The S24 that I used has Exynos 2400 while the S23 has Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Exynos historically does not hold as much battery as Snapdragon, in this test, I wanted to see whether S24 can hold up to S23. I did a speed test, GPS test, and Benchmarking using Geekbench and 3DMark. I then played Genshin Impact to test the gaming performance, thermals, and heating. I really wanted to know if Exynos runs hotter than Snapdragon and whether the battery lasts longer. I did another review of the camera comparison of Samsung Galaxy S23 vs S24 that you can find in the channel.
    Disclaimer: I made a mistake on the last part of the video and mistakingly connected S23 to Wi-Fi at 8:08. The test was officially over and I was trying to drain the batteries so I didn't pay much attention to it. This was an error but only happened in the last part of the test and did not have an impact on the result since S24 was already behind. The result was replicated in other videos I made including this one:

    Correction: I made a mistake on the last part of the video and mistakingly connected S23 to Wi-Fi at 8:08. The test was officially over when the score was 16 to 12, but the final result could be closer if both phones were connected to the same network. This was an error that happened in the last part of the test and did not have an impact on the result since S24 was already behind. The result was replicated in other videos I made including this one and the difference between S23 and S24 Exynos was 4 percent:

    For people saying the s24 has no updates yet, keep in mind the s23's battery is 1 year old, it went through hundreds of charging cycles so its less efficient now compared to when it was launched. Besides it has 100mah less and the cooling chamber is smaller, i think the s23 is a clear winner here folks.

    There is no doubt that you identify some differences between two devices, but I am wondering if those differences are in any way important for cellphone users? I have S23 and it is better in battery life then S21 I had before and the screen is brighter, but in the other aspects I can hardly see any difference. I mean there are no apps of features which I can use on S23 with Android 14 and One UI 6.0 which cannot be used on the exactly the same way on S21 with the same Android 14 and One UI 6.0 . Yes, on S23 everything a little bit faster, but you can notice that only if you compere them side by side. If you use them away from each other you cannot notice that difference. The same thing is with Snapdragon vs. Exynos run phones. Differences are so small that they are irrelevant for normal phone usage. Will the battery last 7 minutes longer or application open few milliseconds faster, how important that can be for normal person? Quality of cameras? Right now for detecting difference you must use scientific test tools and devices because even people with perfect 10/10 eye vision cannot see difference in screen.

      s23 is definitely better, exynos voltage is pushed higher to achieve similar performance to snapdragon hence the lower battery performance. Now as the battery degrades, exynos won't be able to push that voltage and will reduce the core mzh. That's why all exynos slow and lag over time. Have you set the brightness using a lux meter? I think that same position on the brightness slider on both phones means that S24 is a little more bright (it has a brighter display). So in this test I think S24 should be set lower on brightness than S23 in order to have the same brightness but for that you need to use a lux meter.🙂
    P.S. Look at 2:37, google maps appears brighter on S24 (not by much, but noticeable).

    • @techmo2020
      @techmo2020  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes I did 😊 I also noticed sometimes one phone looks brighter, I have two theories, first it's due to lighting of the scene, the second is the phones actually override the manual brightness from time to time, I specifically noticed S24 does it when it overheats. It's an observation and I can't confirm it a hundred percent.

    @Techmo BIG THANKS for this compare. It is important to us living in the EU. So the S23 lasts longer, same camera hardware, a little bit slower, less but still 5 years support, and the price 30% cheaper. I prefer the plus version, but I think, that comparison would have a similar result. Shame on you Samsung, you had two years to develop the new chip and still struggling with energy consumption. On top of that the previous series does not get the updated image processing even it has the same camera hardware. I'm tired of waiting for the brand to finally put together a good premium phone. Therefore: Good Bye Samsung, I'd rather try an apple product.

    Not a bad result for the Exynos. If you did the same test with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 vs 8 Gen 3, the 8 Gen 3 will run hotter. Only the better vapor chamber might change that. It runs extremely hot in some phones.
