- A look into the creative process of the Iris van Herpen 'Shift Souls' collection ～ evolving to its final shape in the Amsterdam atelier, followed by the finishing preparations for the show in Paris.
The collection was inspired by early examples of celestial cartography and its representations of mythological and astrological chimera, Van Herpen was particularly taken with "Harmonia Macrocosmica," a star atlas by the German-Dutch cartographer Andreas Cellarius, published in 1600.
With the advances in DNA engineering and the first successful creations of human/anima hybrids called 'Cybrids', the mythological dreams of Humankind since the dawn of civilization are shifting to the canvas of science. While the scientific and ethical implications of 'Cybrids' are still unclear, this collection expresses the fact that this reality is upon us.
"For 'Shift Souls' I looked at the evolution of the human shape, its idealization through time and the hybridization of the female forms within mythology. Specially the imagination and the fluidity within identity change in Japanese mythology gave me the inspiration to explore the deeper meaning of identity and how immaterial and mutable it can become within the current coalescence of our digital bodies” - Iris van Herpen

That’s what I noticed in this video. She is very hands on . And with manageable mount of looks, that’s why she is able to to that. Unlike so many fashion houses that have too many looks, the designer is more like stylist than creator

It's promotion video made with scenario 😂 I don't think that brand owner sits and sews dresses everyday. I don't even think that she sketches herself. Brand owner has a lot of other things to do.
I'm a very distant spectator in terms of high fashion life, but must admit, this collection is a truly impressive piece of art.

As an architecture student, I love how all of your works scream architecture. From the design & conceptual approach, creative & making process, to the final presentation. Really admire your works.
All the engineering behind it too. The 3D printing, the laser cutting, the wiring, the CAD. She has literally made the bridge between art and science visible to any human eye. It’s amazing.
Imagine if architecture of buildings was just as detailed and almost life like in movement...I love it!

I am not a connoisseur of any type of fashion. I am the type of "if-it-fits-then-tis-wearable" HOWEVER... this beautiful angel has made me reconsider my thought on fashion and how it impacts life. I mean, just by looking at her elegant pieces, I could detect the four elements fire 🔥earth 🌍 water 💧and air. I know it's pounds cliche but that is my experience when I see what she is able to create. As a novice poet, I also saw harmony, rhythm, rhymes, alliteration as well as the message in her pieces. I swear I even saw diction. I could also feel her pieces just by looking at them... Happiness, sadness, life, healing, health, shadows as well as beauty and sophistication. That is just my humble interpretation of her work and how they made me feel instead of just enjoying them. She is art and I would like to study how her mind works... Perhaps it's like Mozart's Beethoven's or Schubert's... I guess I am just subjective in my perspectives. Much love and support from Nairobi, Kenya 🇰🇪

I bet these designs would look amazing on various body types. On these thin women it looks beautiful and accentuates the vertical, and on fat or curvy bodies, the volume and shapes created would be magical like butterflies. Love the innovative fabrications and the patterns and flow! So cool.
