- Today I go over some God of War Ragnarok tips and tricks for combat to make life easier. God of War Ragnarök can be a pretty brutal game, so here's some tips that helped me out in my playthrough.

Not a combat tip per say but the portals that you use to teleport. They refill your health when you open them. So you can open one and close it for full health if you're passing by

You can also change settings so that you can collect items by walking over them rather than constantly having to position yourself and then press 'O' - so much better. You can also change the setting so you can climb walls/jump over barriers without pressing 'O' too. Makes the game so much better.

That sounds very useful, I like starting a combo in between a boss and a healthstone and at the end I dodge and then activate stone as a stun so I can use a runic 😊
Fun fact, if you go into the Gameplay settings you can make it so you can charge your Chaos Blades by just holding the button like the axe. It’s the setting that changes all tap functions (cut scene stuff and the like) from tap to hold.
Was wondering why it was different and wanted to change it at first but it gives the weapons different feels so I kept it how the devs wanted. Good tip tho.

Also, a word of advice: there is a skill which enables you permafrost your axe by tapping the triangle button, so no more holding that button.
@@TheSec09 yeah sorta works like the “delayed strike” ability for the axe and blades for gow4. Jus have to wait a split second then tap it and insta charges it.

For those of you that don’t know you can power up the blades real quick by double tapping L1 with a shield (I prefer dauntless) and hitting triangle right after animation changes on PS5 your controller also gives a different vibration feel. This will instantly power up the flame ability and you can use the R1/R2 ability and with the handle that refills cooldown it works on all your abilities and relics! It’s damn right game breaking!
Having to charge your damn weapons is stupid, enemies won't wait around for you and it interrupts combats.

@@zZiL341yRj736 than don't use the chare up ability. I know I am a solid 9. Months late to your comment and you probably don't play Ragnarok anymore, but why complain about an amazing feature that is not even forced. You don't have to power up any weapon at all to complete the main story.
Also you forgot to mention that you don't have to use a resurrection stone if you go down early in an encounter. It's better to save it and use tactically during tough encounters until you are confident you can finish the fight.

I sold that shit after dying many times and seeing the Atreus running animations, it slows everything down.
Couple clarifications- Despite not receiving XP or hacksilver for killing enemies in Niefleheim training pit… You do still receive the XP for the labor for completing each skill.
Tip with Stonewall Shield … it can only block the yellow parry attack until it’s fully charged (4 hits i believe to fully charge). Once it’s fully charged, the next yellow circle attack will break your guard like any other shield. So just be sure to expend the shield never often with a shield strike whether it’s fully charged yet or not if your fighting enemies that convo quickly… because if they break your guard early in a combo, on higher difficulties you can easily die to a combo of attacks.
A correction- you mentioned being able to parry back projectiles… I don’t believe all the shields are able to parry projectiles. I’m pretty sure the Stonewall can only block them, not redirect them.

For the challenge where enemies heal rapidly in the crucible, you can use the siphon ability to simply shoot the enemy into the lava pits. You can even move around the smaller enemies if you hold the R2 button to aim them in the pits.
You can also use R2 + L1 on nightmares to grab and throw them if you have the chaos blades equipped
I'm holding out for MILFheim DLC.

I upgraded my skills by farming the phantoms. After I defeated one and got the prompt to destroy it I just spammed Skills I needed to get gold.

I can not emphasize this enough but focus on element it's easier to apply burn then switch to any other weapon that has their runic abilities ready to go so you can combo into them for huge damage

@Haikal Yadzid chaos blades apply burn easiest. The special attacks that have cool downs should be saved until after you apply either the burn or frost effect. Using frost on a burning enemy does extra damage but make sure to rotate back to chaos blades to keep burn up. Arrows are good at element to I suggest messing around with them in practice.

After playing sekiro so long I need to hear to HOLD and not TAP to parry. THANK YOU!! It was so inconsistent when I would tap or double tap to try to do a parry or shield bash.
Having Plat'd Sekiro AND using Charge Blade in Monster Hunter this...this hurts me

Great tips thanks since you mentioned the stonewall shield just wanted to add that if you see two blue rings pop up you can double tap L1 and block the attack every time 😊

I just used the crucible challenges over and over again to build up those skills and favours that were outstanding before meeting the king bezerker and queen Valkyrie
I've been trying different shields, and you can only parry projectiles back at enemies with certain shields, some won't do it.

Nice tips! However, hopefully this gets much better in late game bc if i have low health im basically dead next fight. Really wish u regen to full health or at least 50% when out of combat.
U regen full hp each time u die not like before. There's also check points after every fight. It's not so punishing like before where u die n restart wit the same hp u came in with alot more forgiving.
To add on to the guy above. Just stopping at a realm door fills ur health and rage

I'm sure most people know by now, but in the settings menu you can change the setting for boss health checkpoints. I forgot what the actual setting is called, but it helped on the valkyrie queen and the berserker king. Couple times I got em down to a sliver of health and got killed only to have to it over from the beginning.

As someone that has platinum in every Fromsoftwaregame, getting my ass kicked in medium difficulty in gow feels quite defeating :D those Draugr have no mercy for my bad blocking skills
FACTS! The hateful are downright... yeah 😆
Summary:
1. Level up skills and practice in combat area in Nilfheilm.
2. Holding L1 right before the hit instead of tapping L1 is more likely to get you the parry.
-Stone Wall Shield can block 90% of yellow circle attacks so might be better for people who don’t like to parry.
3. Any weapons that can inflict poison decreases the enemy’s level down by one so makes it easier to take them down.
4. The Flame Whiplash ability is faster to use if you MASH the triangle button instead of holding it.
5. Throw the axe at the enemy’s weakpoints, usually the legs.
6. You can parry projectiles to throw it back at them.
7. Always have resurrection stones

@@The-Roach a huge improvement for the blades for me was when I realized powering them up with triangle is way faster if you mash it.
I just feel like with the axe you have so many options in the combos, dodge attacks and throws that all can be chained together and the blades are more just button mashing.

That waist armour, combined with two dragon scaled set… trust me..
This is a little combat tip I have, more of a myth but if an enemy is around your level, I’m pretty sure you can spam realm shift. I did this for 5 of the hateful bosses.
Theres this one move i keep doingbon accident but comes in handy. I cant remember how i do it or the button combination exactly but basically Kratos spins around and trips the enemy taking their legs out from under them. Anyone know exactly how its done? Very useful in big mob fights.
As a Charge Blade user in Monster Hunter I simply cannot break the habit of tapping the block bottom instead of holding and it's absolutely ruining my parries

The Parrying in this game is wack some of the mobs you can’t even tell when they’re about to do a basic attack because the camera is so closed in or not wide enough for bigger mobs they just go super speed and fuck your health really frustrating yellow attacks and blue attacks are perfect just wish they’d put a white ring around basic attacks
I'm not trying to hate on your video.... but I thought literally all of these were common knowledge as the game does actually tell you most of that stuff. One of the cooler things that I missed for a long time was the ability to make any non-specialty armors look like any armor you have unlocked. Which I think it great because I think the first outfit is the best.
My game is glitched and enemies instantly respawn so when you fight the witch that turns into a dragon in Niflheim, and win, she returns immediately. So I began a training exercise and can beat her while fighting mobs of enemies while invincible and keep getting the stuff she drops at the end over and over and over. It's not as helpful as it sounds though, and as a dragon, she can kill you if she stomps on you so you have to keep your distance but it's not hard to keep doing. I wish that glitch would get patched already. It's impossible to 100% because the realm tears don't let you reach in after to get the loot so I can never finish my game entirely because of this stupid glitch and it's very frustrating.

I am normally a pc player. I picked up a ps5 with this game, because many friends play playstation. So far I have 2 major problems, I hope someone can help with:
1. I can’t quickly change direction for dodging. L1 + D pad kinda works but isn’t as reactive as I would like and useless when I want to quickly attack an enemy behind me (or to the side). So, how do I turn faster?
2. If I spam buttons while fighting (which I usually do) and then quickly change to blocking or something else, my character often keeps attacking and even if I time a block no block is gonna happen. In the same vain I cant quickly pick up health and attack again.
This also ties in with the first point, to make quickly blocking an attack from behind impossible at times

I don’t personally like the tip on buying resurrection stones. They’re useful on big boss fights, but don’t get used to carrying them. Especially if you wanna do a first run on Give me God of War difficulty. They’re useful, but don’t spend all your hard earned money on them, get good, save that precious hacksilver for armor and other precious items.

it is a special attack u find early (10-20% of the story) in a chest. L1 (shield) and than the attack button. look a the screen below left.
There is a shield attachment that poisons enemies when you block/parry. Stonewall shield with it's super blocking + that attachment = the tits.
I did not know about knocking the mask of the night elves! Wtf?! Unless it doesn't work on GMGOW difficulty?
My kratos has 648 def XD tank god and he also heals a percent of the damage done XDDD

Lundas armour i think. It’s from competing a vanahiem quest. (You won’t get it from the quest itself but you get told about it, afterward you need to loot red chests in the surrounding area of the quest)
he’s using the Steinbjorn set, the armor with the highest defense rating in the game.
Does poison work on bosses?
I beat a giant boar with poison. forgot its name but it was a boss. That's the only thing I've tried it on though

@cody 101 it's the muspelheim trials. I think there are like 15? It's not an endless trial, but multiple fights with various enemies. You need to gather the seed fragments

strength is everything defence is useless if you aren't playing on the hardest difficulty you aren't experienceing everything game has to offer
Some people are here for the story which is fine. If you enjoy souls like games then there is no reason to not be playing on the hardest difficulty. And yes, don’t get hit is the name of the game. Power is everything

I am NOT liking the controls for combat. For some reason the quick turn options just SUCK! I don't know why but I just can't get a quick turn when needed in combat. I find myself slowly turning 9 out of 10 times.
You can switch it in the settings so that you’ll quick turn with L1 + down on the directional pad. Helped me out a lot.
Here is much more better to go with the option L3 + left stick backwards 👍🏼
Both options are VERY unituitive for me, I was hoping for a single button option or to at least be able to map it to one button. It flows easier for me. It is a 100% personal issue but thank you for commenting and trying to help guys. 😊
