40 years on, and it still scratches an itch no one else can. Probably the one true genius out of the "minimalist" crowd of the 70s-80s. (yes, among other truly excellent composers imho) His stuff just freakin' works.
I love philip glass so much, for among other things, forcing us to accept that modern and avante garde music can be moving, beautiful, deep, meaningful
I feel every atom in me listening to this. Like Spring came and even the infinitesimal specks of life are coming into the light to play. It is a fucking celebration of life. First Planck second after the Big Bang.
The atmosphere, the flow of human voice which doesn't insist on drawing words from any particular language, the sounds, the noises, the flow in shape of free energy passing through, the underlying melodies... One can find themselves looking up and being surrounded by all that chaotic energy from the universe represented in this piece. One can scream everything they wanted, every emotion, every frustration, every spark of joy into all that energy and it would accept it in its everlasting, overwhelming power and beauty.
This sounds very much like a series sound with a suspense, mystery, sci-fi style I was really blown away by this song, I can't describe my feeling when I hear it.
I use this record (vinyl) for my crash recovery from a bad day... I just instantly levitate and fly, into my mind... Singing this... That is beyond mastery!
Absolutely. Genius is a balance work and usage of everything we could find in ourselves to achieve extraordinariness. This is seems like that team work, but in external.
The repetition summons drone of industrial mass production. The resultant trance clears my mind and opens my inner ear. The music clears wax. I appreciate the silence between notes and the notes in GLASS's compositions. That might sum his art. I hear the silence between notes as well as the notes played. MONK the pianist and OLATUNJI the drummer do likewise for my ear.
When I hear this I think something is about to happen it's use in the movie the church was sheer genus even my husky and tuxedo cats knew this masterpiece
Here’s the funny thing…this is what Hans Zimmer got the idea from. It’s literally the same exact melody and this song was written in the 70s. Phillip Glass is the master, you should really explore him.
What happened to the pacing? The piece doesn't "flow" nearly as well at this slow of a tempo (no pun intended). Yes, the Dora Ohrenstein version was better by far.
Eduardo González it takes an unbelievable amount of vocal dexterity and discipline to deliver a vocal like Dora's. You're not going to find a Dora on every continent. Cut her some slack, still great to see this given a live airing.
I read these comments and was ready to pounce on who those would dare to put down this performance. Then I listened to it... and Dora was WAY better. However, I saw PGE perform Music in 12 Parts with this same singer (I don't know her name) and she was amazing. So maybe this performance of Floe was just an off night... a very off night.
The discipline needed to perform this is nothing short of breathtaking.
Thank you for your insights, Sir. William Shakespeare.

The love of my life took me to one of Glass' concerts, and I cried during the pieces that he played. Magnificent music! Ya either love it or hate it.

Forcing us? Shouldn't that just come natural?

relax
I love your perspective!

Listening to this feels like smiling through tears. Touching and absolutelly beautiful 🤍
I like to believe that this is what life feels like to the healthy.
It is how it feels to the young in spring.
If only there was no coughing
@geokramer: *Kennen Sie: Dr. Joe Dispenza oder Kurt Tepperwein?*

There are no words to describe how wonderful I find this!
The fact that this is taking place in Vilnius must mean something special to him as that is where Philip Glass's father hails from.
Thank you for uploading, there are just two versions of this piece with vocalist, are a jewel. Thanks so much!! 🙏
this makes my heart feel something special

Yes, the sound of the Cosmos!
Somehow this would amazingly fit in midsommar
this melted my ears
Mind blowing stuff. This is more than just music.
I saw Glass's Ensemble perform this piece several times in the early 80s. Unforgettable.
My family experienced this in person. Yeah. So grateful to Glass and the Ensemble.
Such a lovely full sound, takes you anywhere.
That is so great! The voice, especially at the end. Beautiful!
This sounds very much like a series sound with a suspense, mystery, sci-fi style I was really blown away by this song, I can't describe my feeling when I hear it.
Thank You Thank You. Wonderful to see Mr. Glass do an older work.
I just love Philip Glass's music.

Genius performance by all involved.
Genius, indeed!

Seen this in Manchester, UK, a few days later on Monday 10th November, was amazing!

Just wonderful.
Magnificent Magic this is Philip Glass. The best of the bests.
This is the musical rappresentation of my life. I'm arrived at 4.00 min of my life, few seconds before the rebirth (I deeply hope).
Beyond awesome 👏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!
This music... This music...

philip glass ♡
I've listened to this many times before now, but somehow to see it performed live seems almost supernatural.
listening to floe always makes me incredibly cognizant of my forthcoming death
It's not anything like that brain-melting take from '4 composers' with Dora Ohrenstein but I'd love to see this on stage
Wait, what? what is that 4 composers and Dora Ohrenstein thing?
@@Drabkikker I still like the Branka Parlic performances best. But not by much!
so special.
Love this...
wow!!! toujours aimé Philip Glass
Thank you CZcams autoplay! Glass man, Glass...
Love the vocal - just like I loved Meredith Monk.
LOVE YOU Philip Glass, como diz Gerald Thomas!!! 😉😄
A huge responsibility with Glass at the keyboard....but wonderful as always
Excellent
Absolutely Great
Grande musica!
Beyond magical, intelligent, human and musically perfect.. I must have an OCD because I watch this vid over and over again... it's so beautiful to me.
Sublime!
Incredible!!!
When I hear this I think something is about to happen it's use in the movie the church was sheer genus even my husky and tuxedo cats knew this masterpiece
I miss the giant afro headbangs at each transition. :)
Genius. The master.
Genial Philip Glass!
Maravilhoso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By God, this is really trippy music. TFP!
Glorious Glass✨

A legend
There should be a law made that when you are born into this crazy yet beautiful world this piece is played.
What a beautiful idea
Love her earrings!
This is so beautiful it's hard to d'escrime where I go when I l'ustensile to Glass he is a genius
There is no substitute for listening to the actual Ensemble.
This is a masterpiece and should of been in interstellar

should have*. Decline can be signaled by small things like language detriment. Have a nice day! Would you write that down as 'of a nice day', then?
@@Mightypoo007 damn, who hurt you buddy ?
@@aditxd1 Do you believe I'm hurt for just spotting the most dumbass mistake?

Pure genius! Love "The Candyman" soundtrack...
Nice🎼🎶🎶🌹
I really want to use this in a movie
It's used in a Italian horror film called "The Church". (It's here on YT).
Pure magic.
Genial
Great -
This is the most intelligent piece of music ever written.
Lol
This is fucking heavy metal!
Philip rules!

YO BRO BEST FUCKING VIDEO I AM SO HAPPY< guys smoked weed and i listened to this bro its actually insane do it im so stoned rn bro wtf
0:07 That cough I was on the floor !
can't believe its only 8 ppl, sounds like 1000
the coughing with reverb lmao I cant
Wish she went up an octave.
Am I… an orange?
important music
Philip Glass and Hans Zimmer, the best I've heard by far
Minimalism itself is a crazy concept. You remove all of the fluff and try to find a greater truth. Sometimes you succeed.
The soundtrack for Sherlock Holmes, by Hans Zimmer is absurdly underrated imo. That is masterfully crafted music, in many forms.
4:08 is it a mistake or should it be that way? I heard other performances and this one souds differentlt\y.
mistake.
this whole performance is a mistake
Harshill Dhingra haha, that's true
I don't think it's a mistake. It fits within the perimeters.
@@CitizenKang ..dont make excuses, it's a mistake !

jim jones Totally agree. Dora's was better by far. This is dead on arrival ;)

So true. This performance takes so much vocal dexterity and strength. Only the ignorant would criticize.

People with large ears tend to live a very long life
That must be damned difficult to perform. Impressive.
damn... is Hans Zimmer take it as inspiration to movie Interstellar?
Everyone has taken Glass as inspiration.
At last!
Only seven people, wow..
on croirait Dieu créant l'Univers
The cough in the beginning lowkey added to it
