  • This was a cool project. I met this company in Brooklyn NY BootCamp show. I really liked there products. So I purchased a pair and made a deal with one of the partners that we would do a video reviewing a pair and talk about the details of the boot. I hope you enjoy it.

    Greetings! I want to express my admiration for your work, you are truly a master of your craft! I would like to tell you my story. I'm from Ukraine. I was engaged in the repair and restoration of guitars in Ukraine, I had my own workshop at home. But I had to leave everything and leave. For 2 years now I have not had a home and I travel to different countries. Now I live in Armenia. I have a lot of respect for people who do things with their own hands. This is priceless work. Your videos help me take my mind off bad thoughts, relax and unwind. Thank you very much for what you do. Take care of yourself and your loved ones!

    Steve, absolutely phenomenal work!
    I start explaining to people when asked why I sharpen my replacement blades was 2 fold. First was that when working with leather; for best results the sharpest blade is the best and the second was cost savings. I also like to explain that before there were replacement blades a person would have to sharpen their blades for all uses! Most people just don’t stop and use the thing between their ears. I think it’s called a brain?! It’s just easier to sometimes just smile and shrug my shoulders; but where is the fun in that. Great stuff as usual and I really like the collaboration between you and Iron-boots. That green thread is a hot ticket sir.

      Those blades aren't expensive, but they don't give them away. Why stop and replace a blade if you have a stone handy? Get every little use you can from what you can, get your money's worth. 😊

    Nice boots. I'll take a pair of those boots over any of those designer European brands of shoes. Agreed, would like to see full lining at that price point, but pleased to see leather lined instead of canvas. Would also like to've seen either clinch nails doubling back into the base material, or ring-shank nails. Love those old Built-Rite soles too!

My most comfortable and favorite boots are my Alden Indy's in earth reverse chamois but they cost far more than the GS's........ Steve, you know why some people complain about your sharpening technique. Some of your viewers use old fashion straight razor, some are wood workers, and some just want sharp knives. When they see you sharpening your knife with a carborundum stone without some lubricant, they know the edge you are getting is not the best. They are perfectionists who like to do it the "right way", just like you point out other peoples' work (half soles, paper heal lifts, ...) and how it could be improved. I understand that it works for you and keeps your leather clean, but a really sharp edge goes through leather like butter. That's why they cringe when they see you sharpen your knife that way. Maybe going to a medium ceramic stone would give you a better edge, you can use it dry and refresh it every once in a while with some household cleanser. A sharper knife would require less strength to separate the sole of the shoe, and yes you can tell that you have to put some muscle to cut the thread and glue holding the two pieces of the solel together on some of your repairs. A ceramic stone would give you a similar clean quick sharpening but a better edge to improve safety (less force needed). The ceramic stone won't give you the best edge, but you will show that you try to improve your technique just like you inspire us to make our work better.

    I think you are quite correct about the "Made in China" phenomenon Steve.
    We have a hand coffee bean grinder that was made in Taiwan. It's made of good quality materials and is highly functional. It was more expensive to buy than the European "competition", but still very good value for money. It is about 4 years old now and used daily. It is a pleasure to use, and will last for many years to come 👍🏻☕😋
    PS. You are obviously a coffee lover yourself. Why don't you grind your own beans fresh each day 🤔

      China has made quality products for decades. Companies like Apple, top Japanese photography brands like Canon and Nikon, most American computer companies and even boot companies like Grant Stone produce high quality goods in China.
      The only issue is that China is quite expensive now (average Chinese manufacturing wages in the more expensive parts of the country are significantly higher than American minimum wage) and so production has now often moved to Thailand, Vietnam or other South East Asian countries.

  • @crabapple1974
    @crabapple1974 Před 6 měsíci +2

    Tbh they look like a solid built boot with good material. Is there a risk with that high stitch density that it will cut through the rubber? Switching to better suited heelbed nails and maybe some inner lining seems to be the only “issues”. I did not see any real cost shaving shortcuts and the thickness of the inner sole is impressive. But they are not cheap.

    I have spent a modest amount of time in China. My impression is that they can manufacture products to rival any country in quality, however "we" tend to import things made to our specifications that are of lower quality and price point based on their labor costs, and they give us what we ask for. Companies then sell these products for a premium. Then we, the consumer, blame the chinese for inferior products.
