- Hi everyone
Bringing something new to the channel today. MOW TIME REVIEWS.
I was always searching for reviews on products to get real world feedback before I went ahead and purchased something. So I wanted to start giving my personal/professional opinion on the products and equipment I own.
Hope you enjoy it. It is my first attempt so don't laugh...haha.
Apologies for the lighting too. As you can tell, this is not my area of expertise.
Feedback is much appreciated.
And let me know if you would like to see more reviews on the channel.
Hope you are all staying healthy mentally and physically.
Ben
Mow Time
Hey mate. I run a small mowing business myself on the northern rivers. Just had my first day using the stihl 94 yesterday after using Honda 425s for years. I wasn’t to happy on the first few jobs and had to keep making mods along the way. I always use guards but I remove the cutter blade so I can run the line out a little longer. Had to remove the guard altogether on the stihl as it sits way too close to the head. Definitely prefer the Honda speed feed heads too as they sit flush to the ground.
Hey Damian
Ye, the Stihl can play up a bit at the start. Removing the spark arrestor and just cracking the petrol cap when it suffers back pressure sorted my problems out. I haven’t had any issue with mine for ages now.
I’ve never tried a Honda brushcutter. I’m keen to give one a go. Also the Husqvarna 525lst that a lot of people rave about. Have you tried Husky?
Have a great day mate.
🙂👍🏻
Just purchased one of these will keep you updated on how I go. I do around 12 properties a day. Wish me luck.. second Stihl line trimmer as I've had so many issues with my 131.
Ye mate, Stihl had some problems once Aus passed some particular emissions law. Mine started off not great, but apart from some back pressure build up in the petrol tank from time to time, it's been running great. How you finding yours?
Hi Ben, great review as I am thinking of buying this model secondhand. I like how you are thorough, and explain the basics to simpletons like myself. Maybe 33 min is a bit long - try to aim for tighter reviews, but we can cut you some slack given it was your first. Well done mate!
Hi Justin
Glad you enjoyed the review and thanks very much for your feedback. I rely on it to produce better videos for the viewers such as yourself. Yes, half hour is just to long. Trying to keep future reviews to that 15min approximate time frame.
The brush cutter has been great once it was ‘worn in’. Let me know how your Stihl goes.
Have a great rest of your weekend, and thanks again. 😀👍🏻
Nice, I never new what that plastic sleeve near the loop was for , thought it was a vibration dampener or something
Btw, in regards to trimmer line… stihl do a square profile line and I have to say, it’s fukn brilliant, it cuts so smoothly.
I have tried that. I didn’t mind it, but still love my Trail Blazer. Good value for money.
Hi just subscribed to your channel, bought the FS94rce approximately 1year ago ,had a few minor starting issues first 5 tanks of fuel (running in period)after that no problem,be very gentle with the easy start-I start mine on the ground-I am in Melbourne Victoria, regards
Hi Giuseppe.
Yes, mine runs really well now. Its the one i probably use the most. must just need that running in period and the restrictor removed before it runs well.
Thanks for subscribing. Have a great weekend.
Thanks Giuseppe, I've only had mine a week and it's been hard to start when hot, hoping it gets better with time
Looking forward to the new series!
Great review Ben, well thought out and explained well. I have a few follow up questions and, if you do not mind, a few ideas for reviews. Is the tap & go head the one that comes with it? Do you like the aluminium heads? (The ones which you manually out one string in at a time) Then, what 2-stroke oil is best? Which snippy line is the best? What fuel (yes, unleaded... but, 91, 98, ethanol etc)?
Keep on mowing.
Cheers, Bluey 👍
Hi Bluey. Thanks very much for the support. As for your questions. 1. No, the one I have on there was a bigger head than the one it comes with. Though the one that comes standard on the brush cutter would be fine. It’s s a personal preference on what size head. Both where bump feed heads. 2.I don’t like the aluminium heads with the single piece. You have to cut up and carry round replacement pieces in your pocket, which i find annoying. Again, each to their own. But not for me. 3. Really any 2 stroke oil your local mower shop has would be fine. I run premium stihl 2 stroke oil, but thats just because its what my local sells. The best line I have found over the years is Trail Blazzer. In saying that, I haven’t tried all the lines on the market. 4. In regards to fuel, I have always just filled my tanks with 91 octane, and ive never had an issue with my engines, and they have run for years. Hope that helps. And thanks again for the support. Have a great week.
Ben
Very helpful video thanks for sharing Mate 👍👍
Thanks for the detailed review. How many pulls does it take to start now?
Hey Jeremy
It’s been running great now. Not sure if it was removing the spark arrestor, or some bad fuel. Has been running perfect now though. I did a video on removing the spark arrestor on the channel.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year mate 😀👍🏻 thanks for supporting the channel
When I was reading about their new emission engines my first thought was "great, making a simple engine complicated with more to go wrong" and here you are mentioning you had trouble with it not starting all because of their new emission engine.
Ye mate, it has been like that. It was a nightmare at the start, but since removing the emissions piece on the motor, it has been running like a dream now 👌🏻
@@mowtime any idea what bit it is so I can rip it out of mine 😂
Spark arrestor, gauze screen in the exhaust, cut it out
If your choke gets stuck clean it then put some graphite powder or wd 40 on it and it will stop the choke sticking
My choke seems to be ok so far on the Stihl. Thanks for the advice though 😀👍🏻 have a great week
Thanks for the video. I planning to get one soon. I'm in Redcliffe; my nearest Stihl shop is in Geebung. From which shop did you buy yours?
Hey mate
Thanks for the feedback.
Get my stuff from Brisbane Mower Centre in Enoggera.
Enjoy the rest of your week mate. 👍🏻
Did you find the shindaiwa better as far as power, lightness? I always find stihl to be tonka tough, powerful but too heavy.
Ye I found the Shindaiwa slightly lighter, but equal power. The old t260 was a great machine. I do love my 94 though to. 😀👍🏻
I'm a mower and small engine mechanic in SEQ and I have an FS94RC in the shop at the moment. I can not get it to fire, new carb, new coil, new spark plug, nothing works....I'm wondering if you know what part the guys at the stihl shop removed to get your going?
Hi Richard
I cannot remember sorry. I know some people remove the spark arrestor to stop build up of exhaust gases blocking flow.
Also, Stihl had issue with back pressure in the petrol tank. Mine did for a bit on my BG86 on hot days, I would need to crack the petrol cap to release pressure than it would fire up again.
Haven’t had any issue with my 94 rc in awhile touch wood. We are still yet to get some proper hot summer days here in Brisbane.
Hope you find the problem mate. Seems like as the years tick on, 2 stroke machinery is not getting as reliable. I used to work at a mower shop when I was younger, and barely ever had issues with brushcutters etc that weren’t just easily fixed by new plug, filter or unblocking a little jet or something. I had a bunch of Kawasaki and Shindaiwai t260 that never gave me issues.
Have a great week mate 🙂👍🏻
@@mowtime so I dug a little deeper and found that Sthil cheaped out on some engineering. The flywheel key had sheared through and spun the flywheel 180degrees making the timing completely off. In the FS94 the key has been cast as part of the aluminium flywheel and is softer than a normal steel key. So it is very much an Achilles heel……
What head and size line are you using and how much are you getting in the head on your stihl now
Hey mate
Use 450 speed feed head with 2.7 mm trail blazer line 👍🏻
Thanks mate for do you have any issues with the 450 running on the 94 have heard the 94 struggles with a 450 but ok with a 375 head
Using one of these now after having this amazing little Tanaka strimmer stolen.
Personally I find this trimmer very mediocre, the start issues aren’t just you, I find it starts to have running issues very quickly and overall, just not really a trimmer that I can rely on.
This new climate/eco warrior agenda is ruining our tools and making our jobs difficult
Hi
Apologies for the delayed response.
Yes, I have heard numerous people not enjoying their 94 rc. Mine came good and runs like a dream now. Still some times a little hard to start on the hot days, so i give it a break and go with the Husqvarna 325 ilk. Gives me a break from the noise to lol.
Hope business is going great.
Have a great day.
Ben
