    Very much the Sri Lanka I remember best, yellow and black taxis, ancient buses, a lot less traffic, a thriving Fort area, even though some shops were empty of all goods! Low garden walls, and lots of gardens, and a much slower pace of life.

    Look how wide the roads are. Shop owners have encroached the roads now, specially in the mainstreet area.

    does it mean the same trains that ran 40 years ago and same red busses that ran 40 years ago still service srilanka ? my god thats 40 years ago.....we hve such amazing engineers could not we have thought of more modern transportation for public services... I see cars have changed but trains nd buses are still the same .2016 its 40 years after wow.

    • @ddandrews825
      @ddandrews825 Před 7 lety +3

      Why replace working old machines with new ones when they are still serviceable?
      Besides what "modern" transportation are you talking about?
      We haven't invented teleportation yet. Do you know that?
      The trains and buses are still the main form of transportation in all around the world, unless of course you're from another planet!
      FYI, bullock carts are not present anymore in Sri Lanka i believe.
      They have been discontinued. I guess, that should keep you happy about the progress?!

    • @maritanasoysa
      @maritanasoysa Před 7 lety +4

      I suppose you hae not seen office traffic in srilanka specially colombo idiot . If not do stand on the road and see galle road ..see how the same busses that ran then still run today same model amd how crowded they are . We ran singha busses in srilanka a few generations ago . So I know what I am talking about . And today yes I work for a rocket science company based in usa so yes I know we do not yet have sucess on teleportation, its because of idiots like you that my srilankan friends still suffer soo much going to work and even the children .

    • @maritanasoysa
      @maritanasoysa Před 7 lety +4

      My point was to tell the srilankan transportation department and government of srilanka they need to think of better public transportation solutions . If 40 years ago they use the same langama busses today population cannot be trasported in that. Further not everyone opts to go in monteros , even if they can afford it ....nothing like public transport .

    • @ddandrews825
      @ddandrews825 Před 7 lety +3

      maritana soysa I failed to get your point though. What's wrong with 40 year old buses if they are still running good? Where is your logic that today's public can't be transported in those buses. FYI, the technology of motor vehicles hasn't turned upside down in last 40 years. They're still running on diesel fuel driven diesel engines. Bus drivers don't need automatic transmission driven buses. They manage just fine with manual gears. Those old buses get people to their destinations. They don't break down on every kilometer, do they? What is your definition of "better transportation solutions"?! Decommissioning a perfectly running old bus isn't a solution for a developing poor country. They can't afford to crush good vehicles, simply to update or upgrade for the sake of updating or upgrading.
      You don't need a new iphone every year, do you? But, people do that, simply out of stupid consumerism. Those train locomotives are diesel locomotives. They run forever when maintained well. They are not coal driven steam engine locomotives like in 19th century.
      I don't know what a "montero" is, so I can't comment on that. For a government operated public transport system, those buses appear to be running fine. You probably need more new buses run by the government owned public transport system. But, you do have a system there that runs privately owned public transport buses as well, don't you? I'm sure they get to buy new buses.

      +DD Andrews your free to have your own opnion ,but if everyone thought the way you did , we will not have developed in the last 40 years. we would have been still in supplychains that opersted where the produce was transported only into close villages and most product had to be imported into srilanka. trasport is not only public trasportation but supplychains of commodities and services that get transported via transport . for example there is a nice bread company in srilanka called finnagle bakery it makes bread transports it even to jaffna and all part of srilanka ... it reaches the end consumer in 1 day . from the day of manufacture they use busses trains and 3 wheels also for transport . if they used only the 40 year transport models we had in srilanka then and now that bread will be stale when it reaches the end consumer . hehehehe if you now turn around and say why bread from finnagle when lots of bread shops are around all over srilanka. ....I used bread as an example without getting into lion brewery products for a reasonl ....I can come up with soo many....its nice to hold onto old things in museums , they were built for that purposes...but in moden current srilanka , transport models and transport modes have to change .
