The "runaway leader" can be a problem, esp. with casual gamers and kids. Many times, a single unlucky roll can hose your whole race, esp. if it's a single-lapper. So, when we want to keep the field closer together, starting about halfway through the first lap (e.g. when exiting the tunnel at Monaco) we give the last place car (only) a "nitro boost" of 1-3 spaces (current gear/2, rounded down) per turn, and it definitely helps. Another house rule we add with the casual set is the ability to "slip the clutch" and add 1 space to your move at the cost of 1 wear point (can only do this 1x/turn). As you mention, one of this game's biggest strengths is the ability to fine-tune the rules to suit the players.

Thanks for the tips on player elimination and adding in just the advanced rules you want. This game has been a blast for my fam

We played it with 6 people and it was surprisingly great! I would say the more player the more action and fun

I had a chance to play this a few months ago. I think there were about 6 of us. It was a blast. Personality brought out racing style, and visa versa.

I wouldn’t play it with more than 6 though...would you?

I don't think so. 6 was fine though. It was the right group at the right time.

tried it with 8.. was a blast... gets a little crowded but thats how more strategie comes to play. blocking other drivers especially up front gets slowed down alot.. i want to try with 10 but couldnt finde more than 8 yet

Nice review, thanks! Excellent tweak to avoid elimination.

I dig this one too, and have all the Asmodee tracks. It seems like they might be done releasing new content though.
I’ll tell you a dice-based racing series that has really nailed the whole shifting/cornering dynamic is modern Rallyman. Rallyman GT and the forthcoming Rallyman Dirt are definitely worth a look. The latter is nice, as it’s a time attack that works at every player count.
    Great review!

      How complicated is Rallyman?

@@BoardGameBollocks medium, I guess? Each gear is represented by a die, along with white “coast” dice and red “braking” dice, which you lay out on the board in front of your car to plan your move. Then you roll each die in order, or you can press your luck by going “flat out” and rolling all of them at once. I suppose there’s a pretty steep learning curve, and luck still plays a large role in the proceedings.

If you have loads of bad rolls it could be equated to your engine being not performing . Looks interesting, lots to it, and bet it's quite exciting (Also, you'd rarely get to 5th on the Monaco course in real life, so fits in well with this)

True! Didn’t think of that...still want to roll the blue boulder though 🤣

I was that geek!! I played all the F1 tracks back in the late 90s/ early 00s. Teams, points, all the pageantry and buffoonery.

I think they watched your anti player elimination plan for Rallyman GT, exactly how it works there.

@@BoardGameBollocks we played 60 games of Rallyman GT over COVID on BGA. It has a really good "getting better at it" curve where everyone has a better experience each game. Then we tried to buy it and decided becoming a drug dealer to finance it wasn't worth the bother.

@@BoardGameBollocks picked up a copy, nice, not had a multi player game yet but had a play through on my own. def think i will add the spinning out house rule rather than be out of the game.
