All translation is Interpretative given the context of the words.
Context:
Ze'ev Jabotinsky has been one of the most prominent leaders of the Jewish national movement during the early 20th century.
Growing up in Ukraine under the Russian empire he was exposed to the pogroms and struggles of the Jewish community.
He was the leader of the Jewish Legion, fighting for the British Empire in WW1, as well as the founder of the Irgun, which later waged an armed fight against the British.
Opponents of what was the mainstream Labour Zionist movement, the right-wing Zionists had many complex viewpoints, often confusing when viewed from a modern lens.
A mix of liberal ideas and what is in the modern sense a very social and welfare-oriented goal.
An important sentiment that they tried to nurture is one of sacrifice and struggle, in what they perceived as an inevitable fight for the homeland.
Betar was a youth organization and an ideological force in the diaspora meant to encourage those values and prepare a generation for the establishment of an independent Jewish state.
The name "Betar" is a Hebrew acronym for the "Covenant of Joseph Trumpeldor" as well as the name of an ancient and well known Jewish fort from the time of the Bar Kokhba revolt.

It is better to ask questions in one comment instead of several.
I translated the song to the best of my ability, within the context of its writing - requiring a bit of research.
When Jabotinsky wrote the song, he attempted to put forward an apparent contradiction between נדיב and אכזר
To discuss (in his worldview not mine) a benevolent, yet steadfast and unwavering people.
This comes back to Biblical literature in several ways, which change the outlook a bit.
At the end of the day, it is a poem, not a scientific text.
I decided that for my translation, I'd rather convey the meaning as i perceived it.
This is also the reason I translated "גאון" as "honourable" instead of the modern practical use which would be "genius"
I don't own the song, and i encourage everyone to read songs and analyze them on their own!

I think your translation is גאון - in both the old and the modern sense of the word. And having idolized and studied Jabotinsky growing up, I am 100% sure he would agree with me. ❤️❤️❤️
