  • As a self confessed Louis Vuitton and monogram canvas, I haven't been buying it and `I haven't been wearing it as much, am I over Louis Vuitton monogram!? Am I bored of it, do I think it is basic, or have I just bought enough of it over the years. Let's have a chat about it in this video.

The LV canvas bags are a basic but in a good way, they are those infallible bags that are stylish and yet sturdish handle a good battle. I have clear that my luxury bag will a practical one like the LV canvas. Not a jewelry esque bag. The Chanel Classic flap is for women who have many other bags.

I still love the monogram. As you say it’s our first love. I went away from it a while ago (obvs I am much older than you!) but I’m firmly back into it. I am still really wanting a speedy in a bigger size in monogram. I think we do grow and evolve over time. Finances change and our confidence grows. Also other lifestyle factors change our choices. Interesting video love x

It has ebbed and flowed for me. I used to think monogram was ugly (never basic, I just didn’t like brown). Then I fell in love with it, and slowly amassed many monogram bags. Now I still love my Speedy and Ellipse, but I’ve sold the others. My personal style and wardrobe have changed and that’s ok. We’re humans. We change.

Loved this conversation Amelia!! I totally agree that we change & evolve with our bag purchases, I believe that its true with everything, esp in fashion. At the moment I am traveling in possibly the opposite direction, I loved the 2 other iconic designers for many many years, and just recently found some very unique pieces with LV, the Venus Seashell bag being one, it is amazing and I cannot believe that I am having so much fun in the LV Monogram world!!!! I am also interested in looking at the Side Trunk, different & edgy as you say, love it!!! Thank you for talking about it!!

Been over it for at least a year. I sold off everything but 2 pieces. I feel like the amount of counterfeits out there have diluted the brand. I only kept (and would possibly buy) items that are super special and not heavily counterfeited. I also realized that the brown monogram is hard to style w/ my wardrobe.,, and like you I reach for color now.The petite’s are different as is the Papillion trunk - all are gorgeous.

It's funny, I have had the opposite journey from you. I started out buying LV leather pieces, ok, bought one DE piece when they relaunched the print in the early aughts, and there after all leather. After 20 years of buying the leather one day I looked at the monogram and thought "this is quite pretty" Now I have about an even amount of monogram bags and leather. Tastes change, needs change, and people should enjoy their life and spend their money however they want. I'm tired of 12 year olds on social media who can barely dress themselves telling me what to wear.

I think I needed to be able to own a LV Monogram bag, I went a bit crazy and bought multiple bags and slgs, I have since sold most of it. I realized I bought it more because it was LV than because I loved it. It’s not that I am quite luxury it’s just not what I love. I love Prada, I wanted Prada for a while but everyone said ‘it’s just nylon, you are crazy’. I think it’s about buying what you love, not getting caught up in the fact it’s an LV.

LV monogram will always be my first love, not only because I like it but it’s very sentimental to me. It’s the first luxury handbag I ever saw as an 18 year old back in the 70s. I loved handbags back then and I worked in the high end side of town where the extremely wealthy lived. All of the women had a Speedy. A coworker explained to me what it was. I dreamed that someday I would own one. FF to 2007 and that dream came true. Many bags and design houses later, LV is still near and dear to my heart. I love my original speedy and all of the monogram that I’ve purchased. I’ve sold all of my Chanel but I’ve never parted with any monogram. If nobody ever wore it again I’d still wear mine.

I am in a similar boat as you. I love the monogram and love to use those bags but now that I have a lot of monogram pieces (and a lot of bags in general) I tend to look at the more unique items. Once you have several monogram bags you kind of need to mix it up a little. I recently purchased the side trunk PM and I purposely got it in one of the seasonal leather versions cause I just have too much monogram. I like that Pharell is using the monogram and damier in more fun ways and colors so that interests me as well!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We all change and move on to new things. In spring of 2023 I decided I had a lot of LV mono and DE canvas bags, and I needed to add color and leather to my collection. I have spent the last year doing so and love these new bags, but I find myself always grabbing my mono canvas. I love them more and they seem to work with my very bright/colorful clothes. So the last bag I bought was the LV mono highrise bumbag and can't stop wearing it! It makes me happy. So I say do what makes you happy! 😊

It’s classic, not basic and the people who say it’s become ‘basic’ (to use the slang term) are generally drawn to trends and will enter into the endless buy/resell circle. Love LV canvas - all of them - because they’re usually very functional and lightweight. I only have 2 small LV monogram bags and a Gucci one, which again I love. Maybe if I’d owned many canvas styles, I‘d be ‘over it’ too, but monogram bags are classic, and a forever bag if you choose well.

I'm not going to buy anything LV monogram, and it's for one main reason - it's brown! I feel the same about the beige/ brown Gucci monogram canvas (which is why my Gucci horsebit is in the navy/ beige version). That being said, I do rather like the actual monogram print. There are secondary reasons as well, the leather - it's better with a light patina imo, but I'll never love it (I actually, surprisingly prefer the black leather trim, and I don't wear black), and it's not a neutral that I feel would sit comfortably in my wardrobe.
I've just checked out the Damier print, and the denim blue version made me smile (maybe even enough to get past the leather trim?), but the colours of the blue Pharell Williams Speedy 25 made my heart sing, but I don't think that the bags it comes in would work for me.
What can I say, LV is not my favourite bag brand! Sorry, as I know, loads of people love it, but I'm always thinking, "Yeah, that bag in a different colour," or "that material in a different bag." That's okay, I get that it suits a lot of people's style, and I love that we all like different things and especially that I haven't bought into something that really isn't right for me.

I think that the word you are looking for is Grown Out of it... You have progressed, your style has changed and you are able to dive a little deeper into the luxury aspect of luxury... In an amazing way the Monogram is the introductory style for luxury goods. When you level up you pay attention to the more interesting, more fabulous and most of the time those are the leather goods.

I’m a monogram lover and probably will always be but I think I overdid the LV monogram 😅. LV was my first love and the first brand I dipped into when I could finally afford it. But after many purchases with the brand and seeing it everywhere rather the bags were authentic or not I became bored of it and felt common ( not trying to offend anyone) but I felt like I didn’t self express my personal style and I didn’t like carrying what everyone else had. I’m still very much in my monogram era mostly with Gucci now which is surprising but I’m currently enjoying the brand because it’s new to me and I don’t see the bag I’m carrying on everyone else 😊

So funny because it’s sort of the opposite for me. When I was younger, I disliked monogram. I thought it was too loud and preferred the Damier Eben 100 times over. But now being in my early 40s, I am all about the Monogram. This year, I bought my first monogram piece - the Papillon trunk (influenced by you so thanks for that LOL) and the Mini Bum bag. Now, I am marinating on the Loop Hobo. I’m also trying to add a bit more color to my purse collection. I always gravitated towards black bags when I was in my 20s and 30s because like what you said I wanted to my bags to be more neutral and go with everything. Plus being a New Yorker, I’m very much about the Panda Aesthetic (black, white and neutrals 😂) However, I guess now that I’m older, I just want to have the ability to be loud and proud in a fun way with my purse collection 🎉

I have to say Im not a fan. I just don't like the colour brown. I like the neverfull empreinte black leather though. Love that one😊

Never liked LV monogram bags. Never have. I think mostly because I used to see (and still see) them everywhere. It became so “basic” that it not really worth getting.

I love LV because of the monogram n the ebene so yeah i’m basic , it’s ok , i’m happy with that 😁

I love monogram but only on SLGs or luggage. I would never wear a monogram purse. I prefer damier ebene or leather purses.

Im gonna let go of half of my Monogram and DE LV not because I don't love it anymore but because I have 'too many'' of it😅 I barely use half in my rotation. They need to be used and loved. It seems like the monogram looks better with age, IMO. The delicate leather bags can look roughed up once you used it too much, but monogram develop a certain charm as they aged. All year-round, I noticed that I only used 4 out of 13canvas bags(yes,it was a slippery slope for me). I have 5 leather from Chanel, Gucci and YSL and I only use 3. In my lifestyle,as a plain housewife, my monogram is still my most used, most practical lux bag ever. I wanna keep all of them of course but it's not practical for me. I can only live vicariously thru collectors here in YT.

I do remember you making that video, "is LV basic?". Personally, because I see LV in every nook and corner, I am sorry to say that LV is mainstream and basic. I didn't use to think so, but LV is attainable and achievable, therefore basic. LV is everywhere and its not exclusive. With so many fakes, even the poorest of people are wearing LV. I always give the benefit of the doubt that anyone I see carry LV is carrying an authentic.
