That scene was so sad ... I’m glad he was able to forgive his mother for how she was in the past. The call he received from Kevin awakened the love and passion he had for him.
It was so NECESSARY for Chiron to hear that his mother loved him... it was awful that he NEVER felt that from her growing up because of her drug addiction.
That was VERY DEEP... he meant both emotionally and physically... that’s sad 10 years is a long time . Kevin was Chiron’s only sexual experience... that’s both beautiful and sad at the same time .
This movie has so many layers.... anger, sadness, ecstasy , pain and finally the confirmation of LOVE. It’s heartbreaking growing up and never feeling or experiencing love.
The ending of the movie showing a young Chiron on the beach was so important... it showed that he finally accepted his sexuality and felt he could finally be himself . ❤️

Absolutely deserved the Oscar. I lived most of my life in FL and the movie accurately depicted not just Liberty City, but the Hood in every town. My heart broke in the diner scene when Kevin played this song, one of the most evocative songs of love and longing ever written. I grew up loving this song and it perfectly expressed the emotion of the movie. I am glad I saw it in the privacy of my own home cause I would hate to cry out loud in a theater.

Jacob Ber-Baum I only went because it won an Oscar for best picture. I came out of the movie saying it was straight up whack. Don't beat me up. I guess if you are a guy in question of his sexuality it would be interesting. But I am a 64 year old black woman who knows who and what she is so it didn't appeal to me. I can sympathize though. Power to the people. ALL of God's people.

Mr Ali just made want to know more about him. the 3 Chirons looked so much alike. the women WoW the music we couldn't stop talking about this film sibce we saw. my friend and I would listen to radio/tv interviews. cut out newspaper/magazine articles to share. this is like the male version of The Color Purple. Andre Holland was so sensitive to Chiron. this went beyond the sex they had. they genuinely had such a pure love for each other and in the end that's what gift you take from this film. and all on a very small budget. for the record I do love big budget films and in the end its the story that wins out. Kudos to the Academy. tough choice since there was lots of good movies 2016.

I absolutely love this song. Thought I would enjoy Yvonne Ellimans cover but nope. Switched to the great Barbara Lewis version immediately. Barbara wrote and performed this beautiful song and I am so glad to see it celebrated with one of the most emotional films of 2016. A lot of The older black straight guys are definitely against gay boys in the family. a lot of them choose the live their life alone rather than be called gay or on the DL.
