This is what me and the other half do for fun. We'll pic a small area of the house or garden/ location and try to get the best possible shots (or most interesting) with x amount of shots. Just recently we done an F-16 challenge, (the Mrs is almost strictly f-1.8, so was good being out of comfort zone shooting only f16. Sometimes there's a rule. for example "Reflections" where all shots must be a reflection, mirrors, water, metal, windows etc. Or only using flash. It's a great way to teach and learn. It's all friendly, not a competition, but more to see how differently (or sometimes how similar) our minds work. Nice video, glad CZcams recommended it. Now I just wanna go out and shoot.
Watched this before I hit the street this morning so appreciate the inspiration -- I've been more bold asking for street portraits since finding your channel, so much thanks. One question I have, and perhaps you've covered this before ... but after a street sesh, when reviewing what you got at home, do you ever get discouraged? I go through this weird thing where almost every time I start off with feeling discouraged reviewing my photos, and then eventually shift towards really loving one/two/some I grabbed. I'm trying to figure out what's going on internally ... and part of it might be that when reviewing I'm like "CRAP I should've also tried that shot a different way!". Like I had some awesome ideas about a person/shot/location after I got home ... and that's what's eating at me. I suppose I could take some notes to try "next time" but just curious if you or anyone else goes through this and how you work through it? Thanks again.
Hi Malick, thank you for commenting and I do so appreciate your words. This comes up a lot at the dare workshop. I mean this is why I created the channel in the first place :) I do understand. And of course there are times when I’m not as happy as I thought. I will say though, I tend to know if I have got the shot the moment I take it. Possibly from taking hundreds of thousands of photographs with intention over 15-20 years. (intention is an important word here). And maybe not. Because for me presence is key. For me the degree to which I’m present and not thinking in the moment is the degree to which my images shine. Most people are thinking when shooting and when we are thinking … we cannot see what is in front of us. It’s only when we really connect with what is going on that we can make the adjustments we need to make. We see the subtleties of light. We see the distractions in the frame and it all takes place within a fraction of a second. Most people hold up a camera and snap. Slowing down thinking is so important and of course … practicing.
