    I typed out the transcript for this video. I'm just posting it here incase anyone wants to use it.
    Angkor what was an engineering Masterpiece. Everything that Khmer had learned over hundreds of years of temple building and Engineering Great Water Projects came together in the construction of the jewel of their civilization. Most striking of all was the scale of the construction. Angkor Wat covers an area more than 4 times larger than the Vatican City. And this created huge challenges for Suryavarman's engineers. During the monsoon the land becomes saturated and expands. After the monsoon, it dries out and contracts. Laterite was a core building material of all Khmer temples stretching right back to the Rong Chen temple in the Kulan Hills. Now it was being used to help solve the Khmer's greatest engineering challenge. "How do you build high with such heavy material as the sandstone. Well, look behind the facade, and what do you see? You see that it's filled with this very lightweight porous material called laterite. It's a kind of ancient breeze-block." But Richard Englehardt thinks that the use of laterite was only part of the solution. He believes that Angkor Wat is still standing today because of the water surrounding the great temple. "In the ideal Khmer structure, you cannot separate the building from the moat. They are inextricable. They are symbiotic and you cannot have one without the other. Both in the terms of the design and the conception of what we're building and the civil engineering features of it. The construction of the moat surrounding Angkor Wat was a huge operation. It's estimated laborers removed enough enough silt and sand to fill the Empire State building one and a half times. It's perimeter is over 3 miles and it is 650 ft wide. Then, the moat fills with water. Water is heavier. It's more dense than laterite and earth. So the weight of the water is actually heavier than the weight of the materials you've taken out. Richard believes the weight of the water in the moat pushes back against the downward force of the Stone Temple. The moat is essential to the success of the entire structure. Without the moat, the structure could not stand. The two are completely part of one holistic engineering system.

      My issue is with his argument that the mote is a necessary part of the monument. It is true that the water is pressing against the edges of the mote which helps to hold it up. If there was nothing in the mote at all, the walls of the mote may collapse over time. However, if the mote did not exist at all (was filled with soil), the monument would still be fine. Soil is more dense than water, which is why dirt doesn't float to the top of the water in the mote. There is also water within the soil, up to the water table, which still provides pressure.

      I'm not an engineer, but I think the moat is not using to press the stone wall or something. It's because the foundation of the temple is made from sand and wet sand is much better than soil the only problem is in tropical weather there is only rains in rainy season, so the solution is to make moat around the temple to store water for dry season.

    • @SwapnilSemwal
      @SwapnilSemwal Před 6 lety +3

      @Erich, I do not understand your point. The guy said that water is denser than laterite, which makes up the surrounding earth. Secondly, soil is not denser than water, and that is why water seeps into soil until it reaches the non porous bed. However, the density of soil increases with the moisture content. You do not see soil on top of moat because the soil at the bed has actually become clay, which is quite dense. Considering you are learning civil engineering, you should know that, eh. I mean soil is compressible, water is not.

      In conclusion, KHOM is the creator of Angkor Wat.

      With workers from everywhere around the area
      Who are the KHOM people?

      It is now 2023.
      In the ancient world, the Land of Suvarnabhumi, The Lavo Kingdom was the birthplace of the KHOM people.
      Lavo stone castles are everywhere in Thailand. It was built before the Angkor Wat period.
      I repeat before the Angkor Wat period.

      Prasat Hin Phanom Rung in "Buri ram" Province of Thailand.
      google Keyword "Khom Civilization" in Thailand
      I repeat
      The KHOM people are not Khmer(cambodia).
      The KHOM people are the ancestors of Siam.(Thai)
      Ancient stone inscriptions in Burma called the Siamese as KHOM.
      We used to watch Disney's Jungle book.
      In the forest there is a lost city. that is hypothetical
      But this is a place in the real world.
      This is an ancient Indian civilization spread to Thailand.

    If this is a Hinduism Complex building it can belong to anyone because anyone can believe in Hinduism. So Indians/Tamils claiming this as their treasure or saying that their king built this is totally wrong if you have no other proofs besides the religion and the king’s names. It was 900 years ago. The name can always be similar in any forms. There’s no record in history stated that The suryavarmans and Jayavarmans was a tamil king. And they did not confirm it themselves too. But one thing for sure is they did confirm their cambodians. They created such masterpieces in our lands, and later onwards King Suryavarman sculpted on a rock confirming he was a Khmer King. So being overproud of yourself or your country is a bad thing to do since karma might bite back.

    It' s situated in the land of Abraham's third wife, Keturah.
    Angkor Wat was built more than 900BC years ago.

    This is the extent of the Vedic civilisation. From West of Afghanistan to the edges of Cambodia. The Angkor-wat strictly follows the Agama-Shastras. It is what is called in Hinduism a Mandala. What is interesting is the extent to which the Ramayana went. Also went the depiction of 'Samudra Manthan' or the ocean of churns. From the temple one can be sure that King Suryavarman wanted to create a perfect Vedic city similar to what Ram built in Ayodhya ages ago. One can see a lot of Chola influence over Angkor wat. Must have been a huge trade during that time.

    • @sadenb
      @sadenb Před 7 lety +5

      You can use as many racial slurs as you want but the fact of the matter is you cannot deny history. The Khmer kings follow the matri-lineage of Pallavas so much so that one of the Cambodia kings Nandivarman was called to rule when the pallava lineage ended. You should read history more and archaeology more. The angkor-wat follows the Agama shastras to the core. Third, all of the depictions are there in the Angkor-wat. It is not surprising there is Chola influence because the Cholas largely built upon the Pallava style and the Khmer temples come later than the Chola temples. There was a lot of bi-lateral trade and a plethora of evidences to support it. You can shout as much as you want, but denial of history doesn't change the evidences. Good luck on your future endeavours.

    • @sadenb
      @sadenb Před 7 lety +3

      India don't need rivers because there is an abundance of water resources.
      Second, developing arches is not a sign of greatness. The core technology of arches are trapezoidal bricks. Trapezoidal bricks were used in the Indus-Saraswati civilisation as far back as 2500 B.C.E to keep of the pressure from the rivers.
      Third, the fact that the arches were not used in India is wrong. Indian arches are available since the Mauryan times. The caves of Ajanta has precise arches cut onto rocks. Not just that the stupa itself is the most perfect hemi-sphere. Not just that , the spherical nature of the Barabar caves which are as old as 300 BCE. Not just that there are extreme reflexivity and acoustical resonance. The Chaityas of the Buddhist school of architecture developed as old as 4th century BC in India. So the idea that arches are alien to India is wrong.
      Fourth, The greatest empire around the 10th century was the Chola Empire because it was the crucible of maritime trade in India . Not just Khmer but the Chams of Vietnam , etc. are all influenced from India. I am not saying builders went there but the science of the architecture are definitely from Indian knowledge system. The Angkor-wat strictly follows Agama shastras and is no joke. It also is a 'Mandala' . It is not something new to India also. Most of the old south Indian cities like Meenakshi , Kanchipuram, Srirangam are all mandalas. The reason there are no big ruins is because they are living cities and the civilisation is still continuing for millennia. Even though Cambodia had their own civilisation but these temple structures were brought from Indian knowledge systems. All of the mentioned cities are also Mandalas. And they can still make these temples as big as any because they still have the knowledge. That is because they kept the knowledge system alive. That is why a temple like Akshardham was built in New Delhi with traditional mechanisms by just using interlocking systems.
      Fifth, the fact that there are inscriptions borrowed from Indian epics all over the temples of all of South East Asia are undeniable. This only mean either traders of India went or more precisely the people of knowledge went to these places or students came from outside to India. The last two are extremely probably because of the dozens of ancient universities in India.
      So you can use whatever colour slurs and use hyper nationalistic words but you are neither a historian nor an archaeologists nor an epigraphist. I don't know what colour has to do with building structures because some of the greatest structures are built by coloured people.
