Pretty certain that SANABI has Korean devs, so no surprise they threw in a reference.
(A lot of Korean media like webtoons and games have also made the same quote)
That's pretty cool, I don't follow that much Korean stuff so I didn't know that
Am I stupid or is “this is this and that is that” a common phrase? Like I know that Roland said it but I don’t think that means everyone is quoting him
@rickastley3033 I don't know if LoR first coined it. But it definitely seems to have been popularized by Roland's use of it.
Some of the Korean media I've seen after LoR came out have been using the exact quote. So it's likely they knew it.
@@rickastley3033 I did a quick google search for "that's that and this is this" and some variations like "that is that and this is this" or "this is this and that is that" and def did find some examples of it being used, but idk how common of a term it was. There's an r/japanese thread from like 6 years ago about "kore wa kore, sore wa sore", Modest Mouse - the ocean breathes salty contains "that is that and this is this" (don't steal this from me I might use it in a future video Kappa), "This Or That" by Morgan Michaels had it from like 2012, and T.S. Elliot used it in 1939 in the poem "The Ad-dressing of Cats" lol. Might be more common in eastern cultures? (based on the r/japanese thread and me not knowing a bunch about it because I'm in America) I'm sure someone smarter than me (and who cares more/has more time) can figure out if it's popular or not, but I personally hadn't really seen it before Ruina.
To add here, but "That is that and this is this" is a really simples phrase and is probably said a alot of different languages (it literally is (something is something and something else is something else,/ x=x, y=y)
But I think that roland use of this phrase (though probably not the firsr by any means) made an impact on the use of this in related cultures (eastern asia games and anime) due to how (I think at least in korea) the market and communitt are smaller and more connected with each other ( as saw in early 2k anime)
at this point it's a cheat code
say the magic words, and you'll immediately be named as the Black Silence
HOLY SHI-- SANABI+PROJECT MOON???
AAAAAGH IT'S TOO MUCH, IT'S TOO PEAK
P.E.A.K
"That's that and this is this" just seems like an awfully popular yet obscure saying for some reason. I started seeing it in the weirdest places after LoR...
