Hello, boys and girls, ladies and germs. This is Tim Ferriss. Welcome to another episode of The Tim Ferriss Show, where it is usually my job to sit down with world-class performers of all different types to tease out the habits, routines, favorite books, and so on that you can apply and test in your own life.
This time, we have a slightly different format. I’m the guest, and you asked the questions.
I recently sat down with subscribers to my email newsletter for a fun and live Q&A on CZcams.
To join these exclusive Q&A sessions in the future, it’s simple. Just sign up at tim.blog/friday
Every Friday, you will receive my free 5-Bullet Friday newsletter-a short email of five bullet points. It’s one of the most popular newsletters in the world.
Each newsletter describes the five coolest things I’ve found or explored that week, often including books, gadgets, tech workarounds, tricks from experts, strange experiments, and weird stuff from all over the world. My subscribers have seen many, many things at the edges before they’ve gone mainstream.
In this episode, I answer questions on resurrecting “forgotten” languages, dog training, writer’s block, reducing alcohol intake, AI companions, training the “good enough” muscle, low-back pain, the importance of weight training and muscle mass, travel recommendations for Japan, managing fear of death and the descent to death, breaking negative self-talk, and much, much more.
    Please enjoy!

Thanks for sharing! Re: your comment on the pain/illness - psychology relationship. I would not see it as an insult if a doctor would suggest there could be a psychological reason behind my pain/illness. It does not mean that the illness or pain is not real. It just means that the cause might not be physical. I find it empowering, because once the reason is identified, one can do something about it.

Just found your CZcams channel and love the topics your delving into. I fast for longevity after using it to drop fat and it has led to many positive wellbeing improvements. Have you come across any research on blood donation and longevity? I do the cold exposure as well and am looking to remain disease free as long as possible while also enjoying life. P.S. love that your delving into mental health topics now. It is such an important topic.

Spirited Away is also one of my favourite movie (animation or not). Miyazaki came out with a new movie The boy and The heron. I hope you will watch it and would love to know what you think!

In my experience, meeting people online is best used to plant seeds that might grow into close friendships that grow into intimate relationships. How did we meet partners in the past? By being held suspended next to each other over time through the gym, work, school, or other ‘third spaces’ where people congregate regularly and repetitively. That allows people to explore each other without the pressure of needing to make a ‘move forward’ decision with someone who is essentially a stranger. I’ve found a handful of men who are interested in doing this. Keep in mind, though - if you don’t want to spend time with someone, then that person isn’t likely to be a long-term match, regardless of how attracted you might be.

This is great advice, totally agree. Makes so much sense why many well-adjusted people stick to people in their circles rather than apps. That said, finding the right third place after college feels pretty hard, especially if you work from home.

Dr. Bronner's soap is truly the greatest soap, but as my brother pointed out, "everyone who showers with that soap is as bald as a grape."
This was my favorite Q&A so far. Thanks, Tim!

"If you're conscious that you have no religion, you should know that you are in the most perilous position a human being could find himself in in this world" Leo Tolstoy (from "The circle of reading" by the author).
Tolstoy's essay on the topic named "Religion and morality" is highly recommended on the topic (around 20 min. to read, available online).

You need to look into carbon sequestration through "planned holistic/rotation grazing livestock" using sheep and cattle to condition land and soil in the same way the prairie bison did in North America. You can sequester many tonnes of carbon per acre while producing the healthiest meat possible with higher omega 3 and phyto nutrient levels than salmon, and requiring no grain whatsoever, and next to 0 chemical/pharmaceutical inputs and we can do this on the list arable land in the world.

"Information diet" - taking this one for serious. But, there are 2-3 podcasts that can always run in the background, one of which is yours.

I just wanna say 30 grams 30 minutes works. the body goes ahead and keeps you satisfied a couple more calorie burning. if not . the hunger will totally get us before time. which is too early. and doesn't mix well if you're already hunting. You wanna be good at all times even for when meal arrives. I changed my diet from high sugar to no carbs high protein and now high protein and low carbs . the greatest and even drastic effects was the no carbs. I felt too good but then I had to work more calories off at work so I added my carbs and it helped me gain some weight faster than the protein was doing already. I went from 127 to 140 in 6 weeks. first I reached 138 no carbs but low calories used. also water. but then alot of calories were used fell to 133s just with added carbs. not too much. just when I need them. I keep my weight. plus gain. no evidence of less energy or more fats where we dont want and more evidence of more muscle and strength doing the work I do. I work inside a warehouse sometimes dragging pallets for 20+ miles in 10 hours. these past weeks took me some years to actually just do and go thru the effects. I've dabbled with these but for short short amounts fo time . like a day. now I just been living it. I dont really workout. it was hard for me to gain weight. I was a 127 511 struggling guy not long ago. now I'm 140. even my dad with diabetes has benefited alot how he should by just replacing carbs with high protein and carbs for when needed. we weren't educated. and I know much more families who live like this. its amazing what protein does to us. coming from parents who only got elementary level education and living poorly doesn't lead knowing anything about such thing as a calorie or even less whats the types of calories and what they do for everybody. I dint know if any people have had expierneces sort of drastic or shocking as mine was. my parents are from Mexico 🇲🇽. im 1st generation. 🇺🇸
