The all natural Piggies Choice Hay Racks are available finally! amzn.to/3iYcPHP
As well as the new Piggies Choice Space House colors amzn.to/3jQMY5L
All Piggies Choice products are designed by me specifically for guinea pigs
Four litters of babies were born in the past 3 weeks of which three litters were delivered in the last few days.
I find a placenta and show it in detail. Since Pippy lives in the nursery we are checking in with her as well. She has gained 120 gram since she arrived and is growing slowly but steadily. I then do a quick round to introduce some of the residents and show the new cages for the single boys.

How can you tell if a guinea pig has developed heart disease?

    • @LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue
      @LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue  Před 5 lety +2

@@heerolover360 usually you will hear what we call hooting. A labored breathing sound. But there are other determinations that really need to be assessed by a vet. In Los Angeles we recommend Dr. Kanfer. X-rays may be necessary to see if the heart is enlarged or if there may be another condition present. Heart pigs can live a full long life with medication. The medication can alleviate symptoms as well as make their heart better in some cases.

That guinea pig looked like how I felt at 38 weeks when I had a C section. I only had one. She had several. What a Pig. Thanks for showing us the placenta. That was fascinating. I had no idea they were such tough little critters. I suppose they had to be to survive in the Andes. I believe the Peruvians eat G pigs. Don’t judge, it may be that’s why they survived. Those new little lambs look so healthy and happy. I adore the noises they make.Great little creatures. Do pigs like wheels like hamsters? Watching your videos I realised I could have a Bald Pig, as I’m allergic to the hairy ones, my nieces have two piggies. They are amazing looking. Thank you, Saskia. 😊 This is the kind of stuff that recharges our spirits. 😅
Oh my gosh, Pippy is getting so floofy! I didn't expect that, either! Thought she was going to be fairly smooth-coated. She's adorable and spiky. 😅
Zap is such a beauty! 😍 I love black and white / grey and white coats soooo much. Especially the mottled-looking ones, rather than uniform and more symmetrical patches.
All the piggies are so sweet. 😊
Why would the other shelter decide to spay all females, rather than neuter all males? There's a reason shelters usually choose to do males, rather than females. It's a FAR less invasive, dangerous, and expensive procedure!
Plus, when a bunch of piggies are housed together, and one of them is male, all of the females could get pregnant. To prevent babies, all you'd have to do is neuter the one male. Whereas, a female piggy can only get preggo once at a time.
You generally can't house a bunch of males together, so it's not like there'd be a situation of someone having a bunch of males together, with one female.
I just don't understand the logic behind that choice!

All so beautiful, that lil crested mumma did such a good job. And aww little Pippy, she still has a long way to go. On spaying sows, two I adopted from my local RSPCA had uterus remnants that were regrowing? again or something. My preferred vet, guinea pig specialist, spotted the growths and respayed them. I've tended to favour spaying sows to avoid ovarian cysts but that made me not go along with spaying another little sow I had. I do know that my vet spays piggies for the RSPCA now so hopefully that doesn't happen again. I guess it's risk that each owner has to decide. Def neuter the boys tho.

I know there are people watching this video that want to breed their own pets to make babies. Please don't. Birth is dangerous to both mama and the little ones. Consider how you will feel if even one of them dies. Male babies are able to impregnate their mothers after just a few weeks if they are not separated in time. Before long you could regret getting what you wished for: babies and more babies and the babies of the babies. How will you house and care for them all? It is likely that you will surrender them to organizations that are already burdened by other people's cute baby pets. Consider the reality before you bring more innocent animals into this world that will be abandoned or neglected.

I agree! We ended up with surprise babies a few years ago, because we were told we were getting 2 females, and one was actually male. Feeding them all was very expensive, and finding new homes for 7 of the babies and dad was practically a full time job. I’m very lucky that there were no complications for mama, but it could have easily gone downhill.

We also got suprise babys even tough both of ours were females but the pet store didn't seperate the piggis. Thankfully only one was pregnant and we got only two babies. But since then we're always carful with getting new ones. Baby piggis may be cute but they need a lot of extra space and care.

Yeah I completely agree! We had last year in December or so a Christmas surprise! I had to find a friend for my older female guinea pig. We did go to a shelter for rabbits and guinea pigs. They had only one female. My guinea pig and the other female got along really well, but first they had to make sure she wasn't pregnant. We waited for a while and called the shelter, they told she WAS NOT pregnant. When we took her home we fell in love with her very fast, she was not very scared and was ALWAYS hungry! Then, when my exams we're done I went to my pigs and and took the adopted female in the house (for some snacks and cuddles xD) I noticed some blood on the blanket and I thought it would be over very soon. When I came back I noticed she gave birth to two baby pigs! They were only a few days old or so! We had one male and one female. After we castrated the male, we we're very happy they all got along with each other! The mommy let the our older pig come close to her babies and she let us touch her babies. Till this day, I am very happy I was part of this experience. They are all healthy, strong and above all super happy! I hope in the future I can start my own rescue or work at a rescue and have thus experience again!

I got 2 female guinea pigs and one was pregnant because she was with a male before she got to the animal shelter. Once we thought she was pregnant (she wasn’t very pregnant then but we didn’t know because it was out first time having guinea pigs) we felt her stomach and felt 2 babies! So while we are sleeping and when we are not home we keep the two females separated just in case one of them has the babies. So my mom woke up and opened the divider and got into the shower and when she came out there were two babies but the mom didn’t look done yet. The funny thing is, the other piggie that we already had was in the mom’s side sitting under the ramp of the divider, and the mom was having babies less than 2 feet away. My mom went and got my dad and watched her have 2 more babies, then came to get my siblings and I to show us the babies (she thought she was done giving birth). But there was still one more! 4 of them were females and one male. We kept the male and we are planning on getting him the surgery and we rehomed the girls in pairs to some friends. BUT WHY ARE BABY GUINEA PIGS SO CUTE?!?!?!

What a miracle!! These babies are so beautiful, thankfully they're there! Such PRECIOUS little piggies, how can you not love guinea pigs?! I don't think I've seen such cute babies, you're right, Saskia, they're aware, alert, look how mama takes care of everything, A MIRACLE! I praise the God of this universe, Jesus, the Alpha and Omega, which means the beginning and the end! These things are just too wonderful and amazing to try to understand with our own, human minds, lol! Congratulations, welcome, beautiful piggies! I know they'll be adopted quickly, they're just gorgeous!
