Showing you what I get up to on a normal day working at an international school in Shanghai. Recorded in March 2021. Any questions? email: ajmcilmoyle@outlook.com Instagram: ad_venturing
This makes me excited at the prospect of teaching in China again! I taught English for a year and have since received QTS in the UK. Hoping I can get an early years job in Shanghai. Thank you very much for this video. There are not many vlogs of teachers in international schools.
Lovely video bro. Keep it up. Good to see you after long days ☺️ ..... China is amazing and beautiful country in the world. Indeed. .... Belated Happy Holi to you and your family members 😀.( Indian festival) 🙏...
Honestly don't know why this sad recommended to me but I'm glad I watched this! I'm a uni student who grew up in Canada but i was born in China. It's nice to see a vlog about the Chinese education system for a change!
Hi, my name is Juan Luis from Mexico. Nice to meet you. I'm currently finishing my doctorate in math education, and I'm especially interested in China. I've been studying 'teaching with variation' for several years, so hopefully, you could share more information about how math is taught in China. Greetings from Mexico!"
@@TheChinaAdventure What are the necessary additional qualifications to teach at an international school compared to the training centres/public schools? Any subject, not necessarily maths.
@@zichisdead They 'prefer' teachers with a teaching license from their own country, but they will also accept teachers with relevant experience. So I don't have any teaching qualifications, but have been teaching maths for 3 years and been teaching in China is a whole for over 4 years! And once you get into one international school, it's great experience to get another afterwards
@@TheChinaAdventure Wow okay that's nice to know. I kind of always assumed they only hired teachers with advanced qualifications for the international schools. Do you know if international schools or schools in general ever look for teachers that specialize in marketing/business?
@@zichisdead In the top prestigious schools maybe, but there are loads of international schools in each city and they all need many foreign teachers! Definitely not in the younger grades, but possibly in high school. But they do teach social studies in middle school, perhaps that would be something you could try
Awesome video. I’m currently applying to teach in China. I’m interested in an international school. I am a qualified teacher teaching English here in NZ - to high school aged students - so I’m hoping I can do the same in China, starting in Jan 2022. Any tips and advice please?
The day you have 1 class do you have to be in school all day from 7:40-4:30pm? How does it work? What do you do with all that free time on those 1 to 2 class days?
yes, have to be on campus all day - i only have one class that day as I am in the maths department and after lunch on tuesday is when we have meetings if needed. Other time spent marking, preparing lessons, hanging with other teachers or maybe learning chinese!
@@TheChinaAdventure Ok cool cool 😎 Thanks for the info. Just wanted to know what it will be like for me, because once I’m finished classes in the university I just head home.
A white guy teaching Math, now that sounds more original. Such a great thing to live near the work place. Schools are open in Shanghai? That is so nice. But so amazing. Assuming this is 2021.
Can you tell me the truth about the workload and other negative aspects of working at an international school? I'm sure you didn't touch on that to make the video more appealing. I know especially because I work in China and each school I have been to has various types of issues (except my current one). Can you please tell me about the cons? I recently signed a contract with an international school (to start in the next 3 months) and I worry I will regret it. My current school is an university in GZ and I have to say it's like heaven: no office hours, nice salary, no parent meetings, only 1 teacher meeting each semester, great students, free apartment, good salary for an university. However, my girlfriend wants more money and I signed the contract with the international school to work there next. But I worry I will be miserable there. Especially because of the work load and all the things I mentioned above that I don't have to do now. Are you still working at this school? Thanks!
Congrats on getting this position! Your students are lucky to have you
Thank you! The students are great, its amazing how smart & capable they are!!

Hi great video! Would you consider making a video on how you got your job in China!
yes for sure, good idea!
Can you do a video on how you got your jobs in China, what to look out for etc?
It seems like a good place to work in. Once I have one or two years of experience I might consider a international school.
100% id definitely recommend it - more work but everything is great; facilities, support, wage, bonuses etc etc i do really enjoy it

The book you used is one lesson one exercise? I was using those books when I was young and I am not teaching it to my sons in Canada.
yes thats it!the english version is a little crudely translated, so im following the curriculim, but not using too much from the actual book😊
Nice video!
