@@JimmyHandtrixx It's true that it's not the same version. I already mentioned that I must have mixed up the versions! The single had the 5th Dimension version, which sounds a little bit different as the Continuous mix.

When this single dropped in the 90s on the back of the Levi's commercial, everyone I knew was really bummed at the bait and switch.
Somewhat luckily, I had a stack of tape decks (picked up cheaply at car boot sales) and my pride and joy was a sweet Fostex 4-track cassette mixer, along with a repurposed video dubbing mixing board. Thus it was that I put together a very basic remix for angry mates! It was pretty simple to do - the version everyone wanted was double the speed of the original, and since this would have resulted in a track length of around two minutes, a bit of lengthening was required. Interestingly, I worked from the cassette single, which due to speeding the thing up to 3.75inches per second, really did wonders for the overall fidelity.
The mix on this YT video reminds me a bit of the resulting track, and it's quite a nice nostalgia trip to hear it again. For a couple of weeks in 96 my services were in demand, then I got back to playing with far out stuff like The Orb and Aphex Twin, and I was cast back into the hinterlands again!! :-)
@stevemrmusic9 You're correct sir! I was just telling the story of my little group of friends who bought it and felt cheated. I don't know whether *everyone* who bought it felt like that. The Jeans advert played just the beginning on a loop, and some people I knew bought it for "that" beginning, thinking it would be the entire track. That's all! Stay well Steve! :-)
Agree with being bummed when I heard the full single, but I seem to recall the b side had the sped up version(which ended up being the only track I played)

The problem back then was that people didn't know what the actual song was, they saw the Levi's commercial that only had the intro part and when they bought it as soon as the single was released ...of course most of 'em were disappointed cause they expected some Electro/Techno/Pop/Dance thing and not the awesome Space-Rock it actually was.
That's one of the reasons this bands career was flawed right from the beginning.
I was also surprised when I saw the actual video for the first time but I really liked it, bought the album and wasn't disappointed at all!

20 years ahead of it's time? It was big beat influenced grunge track that pastiched pitched up rave vocals of 1990-1993.
It couldn't have been MORE of its time if it tried.
I prefer this to the “regular” version of the song;
In my opinion the intro with the pitched up vocals was always the best part of the song, I always lost interest when it dropped off into the boring grungy rock thing.

This song was originally written for the theme tune for coronation street in 1968 but was changed at the last minute because the producer wanted his ginger cat in the opening sequence and it didn’t fit in with the ginger cat sitting on a wall vibe.. apparently bill roach was seething as he produced the song on his decks in his recording studio in his attick, 40 years later he is still in a dispute with Babylon zoo who say that they made the song without any help from bill roach, not a lot of people know this !

Love this. The 1st part of the song was the bit everyone loved and this is that part mixed and looped. Awesome! This is the single we thought we would get when we bought the original but instead had 30 seconds of bliss and 3 mins of grunge.

This is way better than the "normal version" imho. I had that one on a CD, one of those absolute/best of CD's, and was always questioning why they just abruptly cut the nice beat off to go into a imo VERY dumb (musically that is) breakdown where the shift doesn't "fit" at all (idk how to explain it in English but if you've listened to the original you might know). It's like an off key key change that I always hated... This however fixes that nicely.
If there’s ever been a band that has robbed you of your money, it’s Babylon Zoo. In those days you listened to music via radio and TV, and in this case it was from a Levi TV as that was on EVERY ad break. We all thought we were getting this uptempo dance pop tune and when we blared it out, and it turned the corner and became a murderous slash metal pile of rubbish, we all wanted out money back. Biggest heist ever in the pop world!

A promo of song was released at normal speed but a remix by Arthur Baker was included with the speeded up intro - that's what BBH, the Levis ad agency, took for the ad - the rest of it, as we all know, is complete dirge. I, like everyone else here, rushed out to buy it on the back of the ad and chucked the CD in the bin 3 minutes later. It was the dance decade - I thought it would kick into some high tempo techno / trance thing - but it didn't as we all know. What the record company were thinking I've no idea - but they royally fucked it up. This is what is should've been - would've been a classic and included on mix CDs forever. I'm still in love with the girl in the ad BTW - oh my days......

He didn't. It was the ad agency which took the song and sped it up. He was pissed apparently - but money talks. Then he released his 'proper' version, everyone was disappointed and Babylon Zoo sank into obscurity. Not even a one hit wonder.
The slow down version is also good but this version is another level of coolness
