Google’s Quantum Computer Achieves Quantum Supremacy Again

  • Google’s quantum computer Sycamore did something that’s going to break your brain. Once again, it achieved quantum supremacy by performing a calculation within a few seconds that Frontier, the most powerful supercomputer in the world, would take 47 years to complete. This is something similar to what Google did in 2019 with 53 qubits. But this time, Sycamore performed the task with 70 qubits. Qubits are the quantum equivalents of classical bits that can represent 1, or 0, or both at the same time, potentially allowing for certain calculations to be performed at astonishing speeds. Quantum computers are still in their early stages of development, but the progress that Google has made with Sycamore is a major step forward for quantum computing. It shows that these machines are becoming more powerful and capable, and it suggests that they could soon be used to solve real-world problems.

The energy density necessary to freeze a QPU, using a device as small as a phone, would require a *miniature reactor* (people have already done that!).
The main downside is that phones would have thrice the thickness, lol. And that's ignoring the safety/health implications of having a literal nuclear-reactor in our hands. The amount of water and lead necessary to block the radiation would make the phone even thicker.
Considering all those components, I doubt an average human can even lift such a device for 1 hour 😂

Unfortunately, Not how quantum computers work. They don't run off classical logic. They in no means replace a computer. What they are good at is mathematical calculations essentially using probabilities to find a possible answer to a quantum circuit effectively. If you want to do standard logical operations, you just use a classical computer. Quantum computers are only useful at solving specific kinds of complex problems by being able to interact with possible outcomes all at once, whereas a regular computer would have to explore each problem individually. For most conventional applications though, it's just not something that would even apply to a quantum circuit. That would be left to classical computer logic. The most a quantum computer would probably be useful in a home setting, would be to service something like an advanced Mathematica. It also has uses in doing calculations to break primary kinds of encryptions, but quantum computers aren't just computers but extra fast. They are their own thing.
It would kind of be like trying to get a scale to measure length. It's really good at finding mass, which is something you could do with a ruler with much more difficulty, but it just doesn't apply to finding the length of something.
Why did I write all of this? Good question.
