An excellent video; thanks for all the useful information. I bought one of these Selmer (Aristocrat) flutes off eBay (for only $57!), and all the keys work well, and the pads are all good. Now I'm learning how to get a decent tone out of the head joint--I'm watching various videos, but this seems trickier than on the brass and reed instruments I already play!

Thank you. I don't have the money to buy a new flute so I have been looking at used ones for my daughter. Now I can go in and at least have some idea what to look for. Thank you so much! Wish your store was in Michigan!

Thank you so much for posting this. The demonstration was simple and easy to follow, and the price guideline at the end for purchase and repair was very key. My middle schooler needs a flute because the rental option at her school is for a top of the line instrument and just isn't a good deal long term. Thank you again!

IMHO. ..with that much moth damage ..and age ....and drag..40 or 50 dollars is not the end of the story.
I'll bet there is other less apparent pad damage...and for sure gummy oxidized lube in the hinge tubes.
Do it right...do it once...all new pads and bumpers and head joint cork...no surprises as little pieces fall off one after another as old adhesives fail.
On an instrument like this an overhaul is the best value...and by far the most reliable fix.
    Better bet is an overhaul.
