      For sure!! This model actually came without a resonator. 1 stock cat still there, and just pipes all the way to the back 🇺🇸🇺🇸
      From what I have seen online, the stock intake is pretty damn hard to beat on these so I’ll probably keep it stock. When I get my stage 4 pcm in there it’ll be nice because the stock intake sends air over the pcm to cool it. Brilliant design if you ask me!

  • @xion1629
    @xion1629 Před rokem

    Curious about performance numbers. The engineers of this car, along with many longtime Northstar enthusiasts on Cafillacforums claim you could run this engine with open headers and not see much more than 5-6hp gained because there's hardly any back pressure as is.
    Having said that, my '97 ETC has a smoking cat after hard driving, so im contemplating an "upgrade".
    Most of the "cat delete" guys on the forum never replied with any updates on output, so we assume it was either not done or not worth it

    • @ace_helix4186
      @ace_helix4186 Před rokem +1

      I would go high flow cat, and you’d see an improvement I’m sure but maybe not a crazy amount. On a stock engine, opening the flow can help but maybe not a crazy amount because the cars were designed well.
      Where you will really see improvement is by combining the exhaust improvements with engine mods like I plan to do with stage 4 cams and tune.
      The y pipe is one of the bigger bottlenecks, which is why I replaced mine to open flow. I also plan to go high flow cat, add a midpipe muffler, and grind out the inside of the collector pipe to open flow.

    • @xion1629
      @xion1629 Před rokem

      @@ace_helix4186 honestly, seeing as the work needs done anyway, I'll give a high flow cat a shot. I've never bought a Northstar with any interest in performance enhancement, so I think even +5hp from changing a part that's going bad anyway is a bonus. I'm going to sub to the channel because literally nobody on CZcams is willing to throw money in a last gen eldo, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with her. I absolutely refuse to believe that there's no performance modifications to be had, even with "blank check" engineering like GM had for these cars. For a somewhat reasonable price anyway. There was a guy who built a turbocharged Northstar Seville with 650whp, but he put like $16k, or maybe more, into the build and afterwards it might as well have just been a Northstar engine block because nothing else was the same. And then there was the Twinstar, which was also outrageous (check it out if you haven't seen it yet. Don't know if I love it or hate it still).
      But no matter how much or how little you gain in the exhaust work, it sounds 10x better than stock and it actually looks great underneath.
      Thanks for taking the time to reply by the way. Looking forward to the rest of the project 🤙

      @@xion1629 I appreciate it, and I 100% agree about the exhaust work. I feel like my car is faster, but that is based off my butt dyno so idk the numbers.
      In theory, the engine build I have planned should bring me from the stock 300hp/300tq numbers close to 400hp/400tq naturally aspirated and durable AF.
      I have paid $3500 for my build parts and waiting for my parts to come in.
      Northstar performance stage 4 cam/tune, full bulletproof kit including head stud tapping, top and bottom gaskets, timing components, flywheel bolts, etc..
      Apparently a stage 3 tune on a stock eldorado has yeilded a 30-40hp gain. This build should be closer to 70-100hp gain especially with the exhaust work I have planned +port & polish.

      @@alexijeknavorian4914 lmao, the way I have figured…there’s 3 main restrictions on this exhaust
      #1 there’s a bottleneck where metal hangs over after the intake Manifold (I’ll mess with that when I do the engine build).
      #2 catalytic converter (I’ll be doing mid pipe work soon since mines a bit rusted and I suspect clogged with carbon).
      And finally #3, the stock Y pipe. The y pipe takes your 2.5” pipe down to 2, 2” pipes. I added a magnaflow Y that takes it from a single 2.5” to dual 2.5” and exits on an angle to remove bends from the exhaust.
      I got one of the main restrictions taken care of, and I plan to fix the others by the time I build my engine to stage 4

      Depends who you ask! I haven’t had mine that long. From my research they tend to be pretty reliable once you change the head bolts to studs. Head gasket failure on one of these engines is a big project so that’s why it gets a bad rep. That’s the only main issue I have seen
