The stage presentation of this classic is just marvelous. Just a single voice in the dark by David, then two voices and finally the whole band and crowd. The solo is perfection and leaves me wanting it to never end.

Wonderful reaction, as always. This song is as relevant today as it was 35 years ago (sadly). I feel like it should be an anthem for regular people everywhere. Rick on the keyboards, Nick on the drums, both just splendid, and another one of David's many amazing solos - the guitar seems to sing of outrage at the turning away, but also of hope that we can do better, a rallying cry. Machan's scream near the end, at the moment of peak energy, always gives me goosebumps and sends a thrill up my spine - that is a "wow" moment! You're wrong about one thing though - we do get you, you have become Floydians and we all feel the same. Shine On!
What happens to people as they really listen to Pink Floyd is amazing you get that across even with broken English and sometimes I think it's much better. Great artists come from all countries and languages I recently came across a Norwegian native artist and humanitarian Angelina Jordan her heritage is Norwegian, Japanese, Iraqi, and Swedish. Angelina sings in 5 languages and speaks fluently in English and Norwegian. I followed her from 5 years old to the present age of 18 and you only have to imagine the language barriers but we are all better humans for the experience of learning to understand one another. Great reaction.
I was at this show. Actually, I was at all 5 of them. They played 5 shows and wore the same clothes for every show. When it came time to mix the live album and make the film they chose the best versions from all the nights.

I adore this song. My brother loved Pink Floyd and sang this song all the time. Sadly, he died soon after this was released at a relatively young age 😔.....everytime I hear this it reminds me of him,I'm sure his spirit is around when I hear it!!!!!

I was fortunate enough to have seen Pink Floyd on this tour and it was truly epic. If I remember correctly, they played for 3 hours with a break in the middle. What a night!!

Love your reaction that it is hard to take their songs in because it is the truth and truth is difficult to accept. Humans need to be challenged and prompted to take action, otherwise we are reticent to others suffering.

Pink Floyd is in a category all their own. You can not say what type of music they are because they are just Floyd. Pink Floyd is an out of this world journey you go on.

Floydians understand how you feel! Even though we have been listening to them for 30, 40 and even 50+ years we still don't have the words either. They are a gift and somehow some way know how to touch your soul, mind and heart. I am not aware of a more complete band. Just keep listening and enjoying this awesome band!! I turn 70 today and I have been listening to this unbelievable music since I was 18 and will continue to do so until I leave this world.
Robert, I'm 51 and Floyd was my very first concert when I was 7. I fell in love with their music then and have never stopped listening. I bet I've bought close to 20 albums, cassettes and CD's of Dark Side and The Wall.....each. Why? People would borrow them and never return them.

I'm 73 this year, and I've been listening to them since their early days. But I have to say that something happened to them with the release of Dark Side of the Moon. OMG. I had never heard anything like it. They were playing music and communicating in way that no one else had. Exquisite poetry set to music. In their off the charts talent and creativity, they stood alone and soared above the insipid and low talent / no talent run of crass pop.
One their best, IMHO, and always chills when David comes in with the start of that guitar solo! Over the years David has really 'put his money where his mouth is' and either raised, or given, millions of dollars to help with homelessness!! Great reaction and commentary as usual!

I have listened to and enjoyed Pink Floyd for a long time and, like you, I find it difficult to describe what it is that makes their music so compelling. I think perhaps they just have a deeper understanding of what it means to be human, and what's more, they possess the genius to be able to express that understanding through their music.
This tour has the backup singers of any tour. Definitely the best rendition of "Great Gig in the Sky" ever. Rachel Fury, Durga McBroom and Margaret Taylor.

Hi you guys it's Rob from Iowa again your husband was wondering how they and other bands come up with these guitar links and drum rhythm, I'm a rock drummer from. Way back I played in a band I Phoenix Arizona in the 80s ,I know when we wrote music it started with a bass line ,or a guitar lick or just some one of us messing around practicing at home or just at practice and once we all hear what the person invisions you start bare bones and just add on from nothing until it sounds close to what the person heard or felt in thier head ,sometimes it's the emotional connection, you guys are great to watch ,your husband is very emotional like me I'll start crying on some songs just like him man I could hang with you people I think you great in the realm of music .
Pink floyd has been with me since the mid 70s so I've heard all of them and seen them live in Phoenix it's like a out of body experience, love your channel your doing great ,TTFN

I tell you what moves me to tears is the amazing power of the backing vocalists. The whole thing is perfection. The best musicians who gel together.
Many super groups made up of famous people have been put together over the years but their styles of playing clash.....not so with Floyd.

They Leave you "Speechless", When I seen this " Live ", I Left The Show " Feeling ALIVE Again, I Get Depressed Sometimes, But that "Song", Brought Me " Back to Life" It Made me realize, "My Life, Isn't so Bad after all"!!
Imagine if you will a video that has over 12 MILLION views in 3 years since the upload was remastered. That's a staggering 10,000+ views A DAY. Pure genius. This in full transparency is my favorite Pink Floyd song and the solo is 100% emotion. Loved your video. Amazing how a song written then applies to todays society. Turn towards, not away. I'm 48 now but when I was 17 me and my friends would get together at my mum and dad's house and would watch the whole delicate sound of thunder concert nearly every night which is what this footage is from.
That reaction was PERFECT.... From struggling to express how you felt, you actually told me everything that you felt. Perfect band on their own level, no-one else can touch them. they are unique.

The Delicate Sound of Thunder was my very favorite concert video before Pulse. It is so good. At a PF concert you become a part of the show. They have lights and planes and all kinds of things going on. You can't see it all and you don't want to look away from David. So good.

When I taught senior secondary school social studies, I used this brilliant song, in the human rights section of the course, to highlight the different treatment that groups in societies receive from other groups. Of course, the stunning guitar solos helped to win the students over.

I was your basic bumbling 14 or 15 year old when I discovered Pink Floyd. MIND BLOWN OPEN. They were the first force in my life that prompted me to think very deeply. They didn't cause me to think bigger, just further and deeper...cosmic yet introspective at the same time. It took me places other "popular" music could not.

I was born in 1958 and was a teenager in the 1970s when Pink Floyd turned the world on its ear with Dark Side of the Moon. So I know all of the great Classic Rock standards, and it is the best music I have ever heard and leaves rap and hip hip so far in the dust they are irrelevant. But On the Turning Away is, IMHO, the greatest Classic Rock song of all time. The music, the words, the other worldly guitar solo from David Gilmour ... what can any human say other than I think God inspired them to write this song and put together this live performance to explain some part of what He wants from us. Let it motivate you to do good for a needy person today and you will actually feel like you have done something real and meaningful in this largely futile world. 👀💖🎸🎸😉

I can see why my aunt and uncle went to see Pink Floyd in concert in '88...I should've asked them to get me a ticket, but I was overseas serving in the military back then and probably wouldn't have been able to go...what a great concert, a great performance, and a super-GREAT band...The Pink Floyd concert is a once in a lifetime experience...thankfully, I can watch them here on CZcams...you two always give great commentary in your reaction videos...thanks for sharing!! (also, if you have a chance, we would like to see if you could do a reaction video from this same Pink Floyd concert (1987 or 1988) performing the song, 'Dogs of War'...the lyrics are very relevant to what's going on in today's world...(as are a lot of their songs lyrics) ✌☺

Pink Floyd simply knows what they are doing. Their acapella break in the middle song is so perfect that we almost forgot that not only do they play like no other band, their vocal arrangements are among the best of all time as well, and it's done WITHOUT histrionics or showboating. They know how to create drama and the lyrics are always compelling.
I have listened to this beautiful song for years - 100 times or more - it still brings a tear to my eye every time. It is just so meaningful and delivered perfectly both vocally and instrumentally.

Once I found your channel, I found your long list of Pink Floyd/David Gilmour reactions. THIS is the one I looked for the most. I was very excited to know your reaction of this particular song, given your commentary on other Pink Floyd music and with all of the craziness going on in the world. This song is better suited for "today" than for the period it was actually written. I guess that is what is often meant by "timeless". :) Great reaction and commentary, to you both :)

David Gilmour is the master, he isn't the fastest or flashiest but he can wring more emotion out of a single note than most can get from an entire album, and don't dismiss the phenomenal Rick Wright on keyboards and drummer Nick Mason bringing it all together, but everyone here deserves high praise, the other musicians and those glorious back up singers. Everyone thought that when Roger Waters left, Pink Floyd would be finished but I can assure you that nobody missed him that night and I know this because I was there, 22nd row just right of center, I fought a hell of a line to get those tickets but was glad to do it. As a sidenote the lasers and lights were awesome and that round screen, it's YUUUUUGE!!!!!!
