This was unquestionably the best episode of this short-lived 60's TV series, largely because it centralized on the best aspect of the show -- Bruce Lee. Had the makers of the TV series expanded Lee's martial arts - as they did in this episode - the show would have lasted much longer and it would have become a major hit. Sad case of how racism and discrimination is not only damaging to minorities but to its perpetrators and the mainstream majority as well.
In fact, it was the crowning moment of awesome for the entire series. Imagine, Kato having been so neatly and beautifully ambushed at the start despite everything, making it crystal clear (1) he knew there was going to be a fight, and (2) he was willing to let his boss have the rest of the bunch if he let him at the guy who put him in the trash earlier. Now it's Kato's turn to take out the trash.
I don't see how the great Bruce Lee could have been so unappreciated by the idiots in charge of the show. It would have been a huge success if they could have enlarged his part. He was magnificent.
@@franceswitham8214 I don't think that it was under appreciation as much as it was fear that the American mainstream wouldn't accept an Asian TV star. My favorite show. Couldn't believe it when it got cancelled. I came from watching Lost in Space, so I wasn't exposed to Bat Man which played opposite, so much. The Green Hornet was just so great.
Starting in January 1966 (when Batman was rushed to TV by ABC because all their previous fall shows were all completely tanking) audiences got used to Batman's "campy" portrayal of heroes fighting crime. Those were the "kiai" yells that Bruce Lee actually made in his movies. The high pitched screams we all see in the movies were dubbed by a voice actor.
The reason why this show only lasted for one season was because it was too ahead of its time. The white audience at time wasnt ready for a badass like Bruce Lee .
Great point, dialogue is little hokey which is understandable for its time, but you could easily translate its grittiness and realism to the present...Netflix especially.
similar ending to big boss man where the bad guy just is frozen after Lee kicks is ass...Lee is so fast that the guy is dead before the guy realizes it
Wasn't a case of how good anyone was, but creating a show that would appeal to the largest audience which, in America (and virtually all other English speaking countries), was predominantly White. In retrospect we can appreciate Bruce Lee's talent, but for a Chinese actor to even get a co-starring role in a mainstream television show in America in the 60's was an incredible achievement in itself. Just imagine the movies that Bruce Lee would have made if he didn’t pass away so young?
And, eventually, demonstrating workout equipment on late-night TV with his buddie Chuck.
Imagine Bruce Lee in western with Clint Eastwood. Would be epic ngl.
I honestly think he could've been right up there alongside Schwarzenegger and Stallone in the 90s.
He would have been in some movies with some legendary actors. Similar to Jackie Chan and jet Lee.
He probably would have been in a movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Mako vs. Bruce Lee. I didn't believe something as awesome as that existed before I saw this video.
