    I see that you answer recent comments even though your video is more than a year old, thanks for that. I recently bought a T7 for my 2018 iPad Pro, it does get hot, perhaps not as bad as you mention in the video with the SanDisk, but I have a different issue. I formatted the T7 to APFS. I have some jpg photos in it, and they seem to be fine for a while, I can preview them, see the thumbnails, etc with the Files App. Then, after unplugging the drive today and plugging it back later, I can't preview or open the photos. The files are there, but I can't open them. If I connect the T7 to my iMac they are all good. I can open them with no problems. I don't know why all of a sudden they stopped working with my iPad.
    This is the second time this happens. The first time a couple of weeks ago (it was brand new) I reformatted it and all was good until today.
    Very disappointed. What are your thoughts on this?

      @ShutterFanatic  Před rokem +1

      Did you try to force close the files app? I have had this happen to me in the past and believe that fixed it. That’s the bad thing about the manufacturer not qualifying it on an iPad.

    • @quietboysince59
      @quietboysince59 Před rokem +2

      If you attach an external drive to iOS or iPadOS, the system has NO secure eject! So far. I've checked on HFS+ and APFS volumes: if you wire it out after closing the Files app, it leaves a "Volume is marked as dirty" mark on the volume. I have one such drive in iPadOS 16.4 now, when connected to M1 Pro without adapters and hubs, it won't mount (like you have), and when connected to High Sierra the system crashes into a black screen with a restart. Only on Windows 10 with universal Paragon drivers pack this disk mounts and reads. That's where I saw that it's dirty, but so far I haven't found what's causing the mac to crash from it. Checking and fixing it with the Windows mac drivers has been going on for about an hour. After fixing the dirty label without data loss, the drive now mounts fine under both High Sierra and iOS/iPadOs.
      I would assume that the "dirty" disk is not mounted under iOS precisely because the system is running a long procedure to cure it, but the disk indicator is not flashing, which indicates that there is no operation on the disk. At least now I have a workaround to bring such a drive to normal.

    Really informative video. I don't know much about data transferring, but the video content I edit (both A-Roll and B-Roll) is no more than 5 or 6 GB combined and which are 12-14 minute videos that take me about 2 hours to edit. Would I experience similar or other types of issues if I used such a drive? Thanks for the content!

      No, you should be good. Sandisk actually recommended that drive when I called their support. You may want to consider just using a high speed SD inserted in a good ssd reader. Hi! May I give you a suggestion. Putting myself in your position, I would still go and buy Ipad Air or 10th gen Ipad with 256gb. A device with 64gb is a good one, but for content consumption, writing emails, reading.. With cloud service, all your heavy files will be accessible but not taking place in your ipad. However, for video and photo editing, I would go for 256gb. Not only because of the files, but because of the system updates and apps storage and updates. If your system is almost full, it won't work properly. The main difference between Air and Ipad 10gen is the chip. Of course, there are even more, but now we are talking about editing large files, not everyday life. So, if I have to look after my budget, I would take ipad 10gen with 256gb. This device would give me all its potential , and it would help me to understand... Am I serious about editing, or is it only a hobby. If it is only a hobby of mine and I just want a good device, 10th gen is a great option at a lower price.
      If I am a person who is going after something more serious for video editing and the budget is an issue, I would check Apples options on their official website in the section "refurbished." You would be suprised how good deals you can find there. Also, you have some warranty directly from Apple.
      Anyway, no matter you decide, believe in your own intuition and choices! Even our own mistakes are better choices than the greatest ever someone else's advice. Believe and trust yourself, dear fella! Be well and have good times ahead of you!

    If I connect Samsung T7 to my iPad Pro 2021 will any problem arise in my iPad Pro 2021 ??

  • @SunCrushr
    @SunCrushr Před rokem

    Honestly, your problem has nothing to do with the iPad, or compatibility. I have the same Sandisk SSD, and using it on PC it gets super hot too even doing reads and at idle mostly due to the speeds it can achieve, and because the case it is in is designed poorly for thermals. It's covered in plastic and rubber, with no exposed metal for heat transfer to the air so the plastic and rubber just soak up heat without dissipating it, and it feels super hot to the touch. A friend of mine had the same SSD and he actually removed it from the case and put it into a different SSD enclosure and that made a big difference. Even at the super hot temps this thing gets to, the thermals are within the limits of the flash chips and controller on the unit, so Sandisk just keeps selling these atrocities. Regarding performance, you can gain better performance on an external SSD on iPad by formatting it to APFS. Unfortunately you need a Mac to do this.

      I have a MacBook Air. I bought a laser thermometer to do a better test and plan on doing a compare of the 2. Even if the temp was normal, you can watch the battery drain before your eyes. Plan on including this as well. Thanks for taking the time to help.

    Hi! Heads up is really appreciated, but I have a question. Do you know if this is happening only with iPad pro models and this external SanDisk drive?
    Because I'm buying the iPad Air 4 (64Gb) and I was confident in buying the Sandisk drive (1Tb), but now I think it'll be better to buy the Samsung T5 version, what would you suggest? I don't want my iPad battery to be drained 😅

    • @ShutterFanatic
      @ShutterFanatic  Před 2 lety +4

      I wouldn’t recommend based on the response from Sandisk. My son has an iPad Air 4. I did a quick test and it got warm at idle after like 10 -15 min. Doesn’t seem as bad but you would be safer going with the T5.

    I'm planning to buy an iPad Air 64gb within my budget. I will take a lot of notes on the iPad. As the price of 256 GB iPad Air is too much in my country. So I want to use a portable SSD later. Then can I store the files from GOODNOTES there ? And how much storage can a file of goodnotes of 10 or 20 pages usually occupy? There are no iPad users around me to ask. So, can you please tell me before I buy iPad.

    • @ShutterFanatic

      Safe is a strong word. I would feel more comfortable with the T5 but I don’t think any of the SSDs are qualified on IPAD. The drivers and OS are not optimized for compatibility. External drives on iPad are and afterthought.
