I should've known Pyrrha was gonna get killed off early too. Her Semblence, especially if given time to evolve and grow stronger, is OP as hell! I mean she was able to magnetize freaking SODA CANS! If Pyrrha can magnetize Aluminium/Aluminum, what other non-magnetic metals would she be able to control, especially once her Semblence grows stronger?! She could have been freaking Magneto, but better! But she handicapped herself sadly, and her death is the end result. :(
Sometimes, I think maybe I should be grateful that a bunch of this was spoiled for me. I was able to brace myself for the trauma, so it didn't hit as hard.
Velvet’s camera makes Hardlight copies of the weapons she take pictures of. Her being able to mimics people’s fighting styles is actually her semblance.

So, just complementing this with a LITTLE SPOILER FROM THE RWBY BOOKS !! They're literally very minor spoilers, so you can read if you want. It is said on the book that for Velvet to replicate the weapons, she needs to "burn" the photo from the camera, that's why she's always taking pictures from everyone. Also, it's said that she only had 1 last photo with penny, her dearest friend that died on the tournament, and she had to burn the photo to save her friends. And so, she no longer has the photo, the last physical recordation that she had with penny. This makes it EVEN MORE sadder

Velvet is based off of the Velveteen Rabbit, who only became real because of the love for his friends he had, so it follows that her abilities are a manifestation of her love for her friends

The big bad introduced at the end, o boy. Youre in for one hell of a ride with her lol. Interesting facts, salem was the first character monty created along with the 4 RWBY girls, her speech in this episode was a continuation from her dialogue with ozpin from volume 1 episode 1.
To think that they knew they were going here from before the show started. They knew they wanted to do that rocket locker scene and then had to go back through the storyboards adding in the lockers throughout the story so that the scene would make sense when they got there. Details from the first episodes continuously pop up throughout. The show is just so well done. Even if it tears our hearts out and stomps on them.
This is one of my top three favorite shows of ALL time…no joke. Everything is lined up perfectly in my opinion. I’ve never been so immersed and yanked around emotionally and mentally…THAT tells you how great a show is
I introduced my niece to _RWBY_ three years ago this fall. As we were watching volume 3, I wanted to stop for the night about halfway through (after the Yang/Mercury fight); she absolutely _insisted_ on staying up to watch the rest of it. I maintain to this day she has no one to blame for her crying herself to sleep that night but herself.

Velvet is a love letter to fans, to Rooster teeth, and to Monty. Her semblence being the usage of his mocap one last time, her design coming from fans, and the actress being so close to it- RT doing the most to honor the Greatest was such an intense visual high. . I think its understandable if you need a grace period before Vol 4. Cause we sure did. They really seem to like writing to pull at the heart strings.

To this day I still believe this finale ending song is the most powerful in the entire series as it tells the broadest story and sums up everything going on in every single volume before and after it.

I love how in the midst of some of the most emotional scenes in the series, they still manage to create some of the most EXCITING scenes in the series.
I also love how EVERYBODY (save a small few) has crazy weapons with like three different forms, multiple dust synergizations, and crazy powerful applications...and James is just like...GUN.
One last note...the Queen that you saw at the end has actually been referenced several times. You just didn't know it. Early on, we saw Ozpin get a text from Qrow: "Queen has pawns." This referred to Cinder, Roman, and company as her pawns. Then in one of the last episodes, Cinder mentions how "she" was right about Ozpin, "she" again being the Queen that hasn't yet been named onscreen. And of course, every time we see the computer virus that the villains used, a chess queen appears on the terminal screens, which also refers to her. (We also meet the person who created that virus later.) There may be other references that I'm missing as well.
So now that you've seen all of V3, you may remember a few things from the intro.. Like that when everyone is falling and holding hands, Pyrrha falls away from the rest of the group. Or that at the end when it's just team RWBY sitting, everyone has their eyes closed but Ruby, because she's the only one that doesn't give up hope.

Yeah. I actually discovered RWBY right as this volume finished airing. So I was able to binge all the way till here, and then had to wait a year. Arguably the worst possible time for your first battle with “Hiatus,” the biggest bad of all of RWBY
this volume is always my favorite when i see new people react to it specifically for these episodes as someone who watched when they were first releasing because this can only simulate HALF of the pain and anguish the fandom felt about it's events. imagine having to wait a week between each episode. LMAO glad you could join the rollercoaster that is RWBY and im excited to go through your entire playlist!!
When ep11 first premiered, I remember hearing the music queue when Velvet started walking toward the Paladins and thinking to myself "Yo, this chick got her own boss fight music. DIS GON BE GUD".. And NO ONE was disappointed with the result. The 1st non-MC to literally have their own boss music in a long time.
I felt the same. I wanted to drop the show after this point, but I also wanted to see where the story would go. Been caught up ever since. The show isn't perfect, but I think it gets more hate than it deserves. I still really love RWBY and will probably watch it til the very end.
The hate for the company is justified at some level. Some people go too far (Like witter haters), but some people in the company are surprisingly incompetent and narcisistic.

Although it has not been confirmed to my knowledge, I believe Roman's involvement was similar to Adam's when Cinder approached him the SECOND time, after gaining part of the Fall Maiden's powers. The Bad Guys approached them both separately to join their side and both Roman and Adam realised they could not win against them, so they were "forced" to join up. Roman could not "afford to lose" because if he didn't play along, he'd be killed. It's why he says that Ruby can't stop them but neither can he. RIP Roman "Fabio" Torchwick - my favourite character in RWBY.
Roman was actually a good villain! His demeanor and voice acting really shined while he was around. In the monologues were on point And I definitely agree with what you’re saying here

The thing I like to point out for everyone when they get to this point is to remember that the train attack that happened last volume was supposed to take place at the same time as all these other attacks but the team forced Roman to launch early. Can you just imagine the devastation that would've caused?
I know it hurts but congrats, you survived volume 3 (and so did your nice chair so yay)! That’s a true rite of passage. :) Totally understand if you don’t feel up to continuing, but volume 4 is kind of a nice break from the intense heartache. And there’s always RWBY chibi! I know I say it every time but your reactions are so much fun to watch. The editing, the commentary, and your honesty. Especially when you talked about how drained you felt and how sad these episodes made you. It shows how emotionally invested you are to the series and it is why watching with you is so enjoyable. The whole battle of beacon can be described as a roller coaster lmao. One minute it all goes to shit, the next they give you hope and you think the heroes will win, then it all goes to shit again lmao.
Again, welcome to the REAL RWBY. You made it through the first 3 Volumes. Now you know what it was like when we first watched the series and why so many people fell in love with it. The story did a complete 180 from where we thought it was going to go, in the beginning. Throughout the entire series, there were hints about what was really coming later on. The background conversations between Ozpin and Glinda and Ironwood, especially after Qrow entered the mix. Not only has the story been on point but the sound design and effects are the best I can remember hearing for getting immersed into the show, before. The music fits in perfectly as well. That's why they've actually won awards for it, inside and outside of the U.S. Loving watching your reactions to it. It's really too bad you missed the arm being severed though. That would have been an even bigger punch in the gut, like it was for us. It just proved that our heroes aren't invulnerable, unlike so many who are in other movies and series. That's one of the main reasons why we repeatedly reminded you to try to keep an eye out for things and to remember certain things, especially. Such as when Ozpin walked in with a plate of cookies when he met Ruby and said, "You...have silver eyes." Also, how Ruby mentioned, when talking to her mom's headstone (personally, I still don't think she's dead since they just said that she'd never returned, not that they saw her die), that she hadn't figured out why Ozpin had let her into the school so early. Well, as we mentioned before, RT will show something happen and then explain how it happened later on. They did that at the end of the last chapter of the volume when they showed her powers that come from her having the silver eyes. You know, now, that that is the reason she was bumped ahead. He needed someone with her capabilities as soon as he could get her into the school and trained. I do want to say, good catch last time on the trailer recall about Blake and Adam. The arrow in Pyrrha's ankle was to remind everyone who she was based on and how he died. Achilles is her base and he died because of his weakness in his heel because of how he was dipped into the water when he was given his invulnerability. Roman Torchwick is based off of the main character in a movie that Monty really liked, the old British movie "A Clockwork Orange." So, now you've gotten through the main emotional roller-coaster. As was mentioned by the evil boss woman, Salem, and by the title of the chapter, this was the "end of the" 3 volume "beginning" of the series where you're introduced to the characters, get some back story, and get the lead up to the main plot. The series is considered to be broken up into volume sections, such as this being the beginning of the story, which is also why Salem said that it was "the beginning of the end" for Ozpin, and is why they called it Volumes for the seasons and Chapters for the episodes. I hope this helped explain some of what was going on that you may have missed and why we commented about things the way we did. I just hope you weren't spoiled about things too much. Well, besides RT spoiling that Pyrrha would die in their intro. You'll want to be careful about intros from now on and will want to listen to ones who tell you to wait on some intros because they can be spoilery themselves. I hope you've enjoyed the ride so far and I'm looking forwards to your reaction to the next ones.
This is by far one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my life!… I cannot Shahzad enough originally I had no idea that Pyrrha was destined to die, even with RoosterTeeth telling us that in the beginning, but I honestly think I had to go way over my head. From the sound design, from the soundtrack, from the story, from the references, everything is perfect in my eyes! I literally have no complaints about the show and will continue going on with it. This reaction is amazing as always. The sorrow and anguish in ruby’s voice when she says “leave her alone” will always hit me. She’s just lost a good friend she doesn’t wanna loose another (that didn’t end well🥴. Still hurts for us all) Ruby is always my fave no matter what criticism (some that I will agree with for later vols) but she will always be my number 1 because I related to her so much when I was younger and still do. But here and further on she takes ozpins words to heart when he says with her putting herself last and wearing the leader badge all the time. You will see that also when the volumes progress but here is where it starts and just bless her heart man
Everyone has gone through a lot but she has gone through so much more in my eyes. Watching a dear friend gets sliced into bits (Penny) and literally watching Pyrrha be disintegrated has got to weigh heavy on your heart and her mind… I gave her so much respect for just moving forward with all that going on Thank you for the kind words and I can’t wait for us to start healing a bit with Chibi and diving into volume 4 in a couple of weeks

So.... yeah. Pain. Honestly this is where the show really takes a turn and switches its tone to really show us how in danger the people of Remnant truly are. Pyrrha was planned to be a martyr from the beginning, but I still tear up every time I watch her get killed, and Rubys anguished screams just add to the pain. These first three volumes were truly just to set up the conflict for the rest of the series and thats just mind blowing. If you remember from the very first episode, that same woman's voice is that did the intro and also she narrates some on the World of Remnant episodes! Going on from here you might see some comments about how the show really slows down but I urge you to ignore them and go into this new section with an open mind. It’s so crazy to think that Pyrrha was the initial martyr from the very get-go. This was the most excruciating slow burn I’ve experienced in my life probably. Everything acclimated perfectly for people to be ripped in several pieces at the end of volume three. What an amazing show I will continue the series but after a week off just to recuperate on a personal level. Not just from the show, but for some personal things. Im just now finding these reactions and loving them, but years later I'm just now noticing a nevermore carrying a person in the background around the 40 second marker.
"Editing is going to be a nightmare" (paraphrasing). From what I've seen, I would imagine so, but I really enjoy the work you put into it. Seems to me like you have great instincts and excellent skills. It is a pleasure to go on this journey with you and see your perspective. I'm not exactly going to say it gets easier, but I will say you've gotten through one of the toughest moments in the series. Emphasis on "one of," but I have no intention of spoiling anything, so I'll leave it at that.
I already have a strong lingering feeling that something regarding volume 8 is going to be that other pain points. It’s a good thing that we have volumes in between in the meantime, but I’m already having preparation anxiety regarding that volume. Thank you for the comments regarding my editing! There was a major foreshadowing in the opening credits, in the snippet that you showed...RWBY and JNPR falling, holding hands in a circle, and then Pyrrha suddenly spins away from them, and then they are all scattered as they fall, followed by RWBY sitting with their backs to each other looking lost and alone. Exactly what happened in the finale.
One thing to note in that sequence is that while the rest of Team RWBY all have their heads down in despair, Ruby herself is still looking upward. Because that's who she is. The eternal optimist, who (even though it sometimes takes a while) will always find a stray thread of silver lining in any stormcloud; a tiny spark of light in the darkness; the a lone ember of hope to rekindle; _some_ reason, no matter how small, to keep moving forward. And if no one else can see it, she will _be_ that silver lining, that spark, that ember; and she will press on and shine brighter and brighter until she becomes a shining beacon of hope for others so they can do the same.
Congratulations! You just finished the prologue!! This is the part that either solidifies ones love of the series or breaks them to their core. I honestly hope you continue, but at the same time you shouldn't keep doing something that makes you unhappy. I remember watching as it was coming out and thinking the show was freaking awesome but way too lighthearted, so this was exactly the kind of stuff I was hoping would happen at some point.
I feel like the show did both of those things to me!😭😭😭 But I will continue the show! It’s just too good for me not to follow up and see how people recover from this

Yeah, you can always tell a RWBY fan. They're the ones who break into tears, whenever they hear the questions "What's your favorite fairy tale?" or "Do you belive in destiny?"
And with that, welcome, officially, to RWBY. The pieces are all in motion, now the players begin their game. Also, as people have been saying, RWBY Chibi, a short-form comedy series, is greatly recommended since it very clearly shows you need some laughs. Volume 4 picks up around 6 to 8 months after Volume 3, and has a overall theme of healing throughout, which definitely helps. Make a huge note of this too, there is a character short before Volume 4, the Ruby character short, which shows off what the show will look like from now on, Volumes 1-3 were made in Poser, but Volume 4 onward, they switched to Maya, which vastly improves the visuals and character models, as well as the environments and backgrounds.
@@gh0xttherebel Good deal! Can't wait to see that, we all definitely needed it back when we had to wait for Volume 4. Also, imagine how stressful it was to be a fan back when this Volume was coming out, especially since the chapters release weekly, it was just a general feeling of unease and fear within the community as a whole. Just know, from now on, whenever you see a character's Aura breaking, that's a red flag that a character is in deep trouble, not that they're doomed to die, just that they're in desperate danger, it's a staple of the show's storytelling from here onward.
cant wait to watch you react to the rest of the volumes.. I took a short break after Pyrrahs death too, so i dont blame you for needing some time, but I do recommend the rest of the show, its incredible
A character short for ruby was released just before volume 4 started, in case you want to react to it once you start volume 4. It gives you a good idea of where they are in the story. :)
An Excerpt from u/Shockz0rz "Do you believe in destiny?" We first heard this line from Pyrrha way back in V3C8--"Destiny", appropriately enough--when she was voicing her worries to Jaune about getting into the Maiden-O-Matic pod and having Amber's soul zapped into hers. We find out immediately thereafter that Pyrrha has kind of a strange definition of "destiny": She doesn't believe in any sort of predestined fate; rather, she believes your destiny is something you make for yourself, something you work towards your entire life. (I've had one person tell me that this is closer to the classical meaning of "destiny", as opposed to the modern meaning, where it's pretty much a synonym of "fate". Dunno if that's true, but it wouldn't surprise me.) And Pyrrha believes her destiny is to protect Remnant. Not any specific person or group; no, Pyrrha thinks big. She wants to protect the world. Initially she thought she'd do that by becoming a huntress; later, despite her misgivings, she thought she'd accomplish it by becoming the Fall Maiden. Cut to V3C12. Everything's gone to shit. Beacon is being overrun by Grimm, Cinder's put an arrow through Amber's heart and claimed the full power of the Fall Maiden, and Ozpin's just told Pyrrha and Jaune to GTFO before Cinder kills them both. And as the two of them run outside, they hear something that sounds distinctly like a homicidal Fall Maiden flying up an elevator shaft. Unpursued. And right at that moment, something clicks in Pyrrha's mind. This is it, she realizes. This is what I have to do. There's no rational reasoning behind it, no particular logic that tells her she will succeed where Ozpin failed. Just...faith. Faith that her destiny, her life goal of protecting Remnant, lies at the top of that tower. Jaune doesn't get it, of course. That kind of faith rarely makes sense from an outside perspective. She can't explain it; all she can do is break both their hearts with a first--and last--kiss. Then she shoves him into the rocket locker and sends him away for help, and Magnetos her way up to the top of the tower. The fight that follows, of course, is quite possibly the greatest of the entire show so far. We see Pyrrha, impossibly, hold her own against a fully empowered Fall Maiden. And for just a moment, we believe, and see her believe, that she might win, or at least last long enough for help to arrive--especially when we see that Ruby and Weiss are on their way. Then comes the arrow to the heel. We all know Pyrrha's based on Achilles; we know she's screwed now. Cinder walks over and starts gloating, but when Pyrrha looks up at her-- She hasn't given up. There's no despair, nor even the slightest hint of uncertainty in her face. She looks Cinder straight in the eye, defiant to the last, and asks her, "Do you believe in destiny?" She knows she's lost. She knows she's probably about to die. Yet that same unshakable faith remains: she doesn't know how, or why, but she knows that even if she dies here, she will not have died for nothing. Somehow, she will die fulfilling her destiny. Somehow, in death, she will save Remnant. I don't watch Red vs. Blue--something I intend to remedy as soon as I finish writing this--but a monologue from that show has been brought to my attention for the parallels it has with Pyrrha's situation here. "There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero...never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just have to have faith... Ain't that a bitch." I don't know the context for that monologue--something about an AI sacrificing itself, I think?--but Pyrrha's situation and last words are a parallel and a counterpoint to this speech at the same time. Pyrrha not only has no way of knowing if her sacrifice will actually make a difference, she doesn't even know how it would. And yet the sentiments expressed in that speech probably never even cross her mind, because she had that faith. Even lying there, defeated and broken, she still believes with all her heart that this is the destiny she's been working towards her whole life. "Yes." Cinder's one-word reply is almost as meaningful despite its brevity. I wish I could start this off by pointing out that it looks like she's starting to cry as she says this, but sadly it's been pointed out to me that the "tears" are just reflections in her eyes, visible in many other close-ups. ANYWAY! Recall that Pyrrha's definition of "destiny" is pretty weird, almost the opposite of what it's usually taken to mean nowadays. The odds are pretty low that Cinder shares the same definition. In other words, what Cinder is saying here is the opposite of what Pyrrha meant. She's saying that her victory here at the tower was fate. That everything that happened here--Yang's framing, Pyrrha's accidental killing of Penny, the White Fang/Grimm attack, Cinder's claiming of the Fall Maiden's powers, the fall of Beacon--all of it was predestined, inevitable, unstoppable, and by extension so is her master's eventual victory over all of Remnant. In agreeing with Pyrrha, then, she's denying Pyrrha's unshakable faith. She's saying that everything Pyrrha has done to try and stop her has been pointless, that her suicidal blaze of glory has accomplished nothing. And immediately thereafter, she tries to prove the point by ending Pyrrha's life then and there. If only she'd listened to a quote from her creator. "I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams is something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. The effort you put forth to anything transcends yourself, for there is no futility even in death." -- Monty Oum, 2012 I'm sure you all will agree that the prescience of this quote is...a little unnerving, to say the least. But regardless of its relevance to Monty's own life and work, it's the theme that lies at the very core of this scene. Pyrrha, broken but defiant to the last, is dealt a mortal blow, then reduced to ashes upon the wind. And for a moment it looks as if Cinder was right, as if Pyrrha's faith in her destiny was misplaced, that she has died for nothing. But there to witness her death is little silver-eyed Ruby Rose, who unknowingly held within herself a power that Cinder, so confident in the inevitability of her victory, never could have expected or accounted for. If Pyrrha had never climbed that tower, perhaps Ruby would have unlocked her powers eventually. But it would have likely taken far longer--time that Salem and Cinder would use to capitalize upon their victory, perhaps even move upon the other kingdoms. But Pyrrha's sacrifice, at that moment, directly resulted in the Grimm dragon being removed from play, and in Ruby discovering that she is far more powerful than she could have ever imagined. And I suspect that Cinder did not get away unscathed, either. Pyrrha never got the chance to see her faith rewarded, to see that her death there paved the way to victory. But she didn't need to see. She already knew.
I agree with most of what you said here. However, I would like to point out a couple of things: Firstly, Pyrrha's and Cinder's definitions of destiny aren't that dissimilar. Like Pyrrha, Cinder views destiny as a final goal that one works towards their entire life. Does Cinder also feel like she is destined to win in the end and that the magic powers of Ozma and Salem deserve to be hers? Absolutely. However, Cinder's definition of destiny is more of a dark reflection of Pyrrha's rather than a polar opposite. Secondly, Cinder has *_NEVER_* once cared about Salem or viewed her as anything more than another abuser or a resource for Cinder to exploit in order to get what she wants. In fact, Cinder hates Salem probably more than anyone else in history. Every action Cinder has taken throughout the entire series has been for the purpose of surpassing and overthrowing Salem in order to be the most powerful being in the world. Teacher? Yes. But master? Never. Cinder cares for no one but herself, and longs for the day when she will be able to exact her revenge upon Salem for how she has been treated by her - for daring to think that she was *_better_* than Cinder. Cinder's destiny, in her eyes, is the acquisition of ultimate power to become to most powerful being of all and take over the world, exacting vengeance upon the world for its injustices against her and punishing all those who ever defied her or put her down (including, especially, Salem). And given how things are looking currently, Cinder looks to be well on her way to achieving that.

Honestly I have to say that these are the best reactions I've ever watched! RWBY is one of my favorite shows and when I first finished volume 3 I was heartbroken. Hang in there and keep moving forward.
I just love finding more and more reactions to those last 3 eps of the season 3. The ending of season 3 is my favorite part of the whole RWBY up to date. Truly the end of beginning.

Burning even Penny's weapon picture. Weiss's first real summon. I have rewatched this scene SO MANY TIMES and it continues to get to me. 25:00 Oh yeah it's sudden and it's shocking. Roman let his guard down and was PISSED in the middle of a swarm of powerful grimm, which are drawn to negative emotions. And of course, poetic justice in dying the moment he says one of the things he does best is survive. 25:43 so cool with the ship tilting as it falls, Ruby running on the side of the ship. Lucky her it turned clockwise, otherwise she'd probably have to abandon Crescent Rose and look for a new landing strategy 26:35 Remember aaaaall the way back in v1c1 when Ruby said Qrow was the one who taught her how to use a scythe? :3 Also now it's no longer a spoiler: when telling Cinder that Qrow had arrived, Mercury described him has "wielding a scythe", so he apparently knew about Harbinger's unfolded form since Qrow never did that fully when fighting Winter. 29:03 Loyal boi! He has no idea what's going on but he trusts enough to turn his back on whatever madness confounds him so he can guard them. I mean he gets distracted later at a bad time but this moment still counts, and Pyrrha screaming is a valid distraction 33:32 AAAAGH THIS ABUSIVE MOTHE-- no, keep it down Em. God damn. Blake did use her semblance to escape the slash, but apart from that Adam actually decapitated her, holy 35:08 that's ok, all of this is really heavy it weighs on you. That's also part of the reacting 40:25 She learned that move from Ruby, back in the food fight in v2c1 42:30 Pyrrha's performance in that fight is absolutely amazing. Holding down a maiden for this long, scoring blows. Cinder was dangerous before she got the full powers, but Pyrrha still gets solid hits in. It just isn't enough to overcome magic. 42:55 See where that arrow hit her? Remember Pyrrha's inspiration is Achilles. 43:24 Unsurprisingly, "do you believe in destiny?" means A LOT to us all who have seen RWBY this far. And if you feel unsure if anybody has seen it, it's pretty good as a passphrase 49:53 This I feel is the (or an) in-universe reason why Doctor Oobleck didn't ask Ruby why she wants to be a huntress back in Mountain Glenn. He's a student of history, and a professor under Ozpin. Undoubtedly he knows about the silver eyes, and so he already knew. There was no question to ask, and there was no soul searching for Ruby to do. She fights grimm and protects people, that's what her kind does. 53:50 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 54:50 So many callbacks, now we're back to the very opening naration. End of the Beginning is an extremely apt name for the chapter! volumes 1-3 are the beginning, they come as a package. There's a big distinction between before and after. The fact that they change animation engines here is really just coincidental but it kinda helps reinforce that too ^^ 55:17 And of course, the one final grand reveal. The narrator was evil all along! Makes sense how incredibly ominous she was all this time, at the beginning as well as in World of Remnant. It's a really good twist! But like, we're all overwhelmed already so while it can hit hard it's difficult to summon the energy to express that. Last video I said I wanted to say something about the structure of RWBY's story. I'm pretty sure Rooster Teeth told us this in the break before volume 4, but regardless this is the point where I think it's not spoiling anything. It's quite fitting, and also as far as naming goes a little ironic since unlike most shows RWBY uses chapters and volumes: The story is structured around seasons. We began in spring, the season of birth, rebirth and beginnings. This is where new lives blossom, new adventures begin. Summer comes next with flourishing, energy, living the chaos of life. Volume 3 is fall, and well... I don't need to say more. What's coming up is winter, a time when really not as much happens. The outside is cold, nature doesn't move, it waits for spring. And it's a time of recovery. Initially the plan was for every volume to be a new season, but that didn't pan out fully in the end. It's still seasonal, just not strictly one per volume. And also I think the seasons are metaphorical, the show has actual like nature-seasons passing but I don't know that they correspond fully to the story-seasons. Maybe, I forget. But it means volume 4 is going to be calmer. We viewers can recover too.

Ruby is such an interesting character because she lives up to the mantra “keep moving forward.“ The fact that Jaune has a sword-sword I’m dying over! 🤣 Glynda will ALWAYS cheer me up, just like Zwei! Adam… is a different beast… Definitely triggering “do you believe in destiny?“… I’ll never forget that same with “I’m combat ready!“ 53:50 is what made me cry FRFR… that’s why I wiped my eyes and said “yup… “ I like that idea of the stories structure and I cannot wait to see how people recover and proceed in the series
Unfortunately for Pyrrha (and the world at large), the only reason she was able to even land a single blow on Cinder was because Cinder wasn't even trying. Cinder knows that she is so far beyond Pyrrha's level, with or without magic, that she decided to merely toy with Pyrrha and use Pyrrha as a guinea pig to test out her new Maiden powers. We even see Cinder hovering in the air waiting for Pyrrha to get up and come at her again. Even if Cinder had no magic, she would still have wrecked Pyrrha in a fight - Cinder's skill level as a fighter is just too great in comparison (perhaps the second most skilled fighter besides Ozpin himself). Mercury even said in Volume 2 that Cinder would take Pyrrha no problem. Unfortunately for Pyrrha, she was dead the moment she decided to try and fight Cinder.

Yeah...that's pretty much how I felt after watching volume 3. It was a bit different for me, though, since I watched each chapter as they were released...the wait between chapters 6 and 7 was literally months! MONTHS! So much happened in this volume that you feel kind of empty afterward. Actually, I assume it was worse for you since you watched 3 chapters at a time for this volume, so it would've definitely felt like sensory overload. I am glad that you decided to continue with the series. I almost quit this show several times (after volume 3 because it was volume 3, and a few other times that I won't mention since you're not that far yet). But, you know, this show keeps beckoning me back somehow, and I'm glad that I've stuck with it!
@@gh0xttherebel I remember just feeling drained after the volume 3 finale. I couldn't watch the show for a while after that. The next time I watched the show was the volume 4 premiere, which I watched at a movie theatre (volume 4 short, chapter 1, cast interviews)

I should've known Pyrrha was gonna get killed off early too. Her Semblence, especially if given time to evolve and grow stronger, is OP as hell! I mean she was able to magnetize freaking SODA CANS! If Pyrrha can magnetize Aluminium/Aluminum, what other non-magnetic metals would she be able to control, especially once her Semblence grows stronger?! She could have been freaking Magneto, but better! But she handicapped herself sadly, and her death is the end result. :(

So, just complementing this with a LITTLE SPOILER FROM THE RWBY BOOKS !! They're literally very minor spoilers, so you can read if you want.
It is said on the book that for Velvet to replicate the weapons, she needs to "burn" the photo from the camera, that's why she's always taking pictures from everyone.
Also, it's said that she only had 1 last photo with penny, her dearest friend that died on the tournament, and she had to burn the photo to save her friends. And so, she no longer has the photo, the last physical recordation that she had with penny.
This makes it EVEN MORE sadder

Interesting facts, salem was the first character monty created along with the 4 RWBY girls, her speech in this episode was a continuation from her dialogue with ozpin from volume 1 episode 1.

To think that they knew they were going here from before the show started. They knew they wanted to do that rocket locker scene and then had to go back through the storyboards adding in the lockers throughout the story so that the scene would make sense when they got there.
Details from the first episodes continuously pop up throughout. The show is just so well done. Even if it tears our hearts out and stomps on them.
This is one of my top three favorite shows of ALL time…no joke. Everything is lined up perfectly in my opinion. I’ve never been so immersed and yanked around emotionally and mentally…THAT tells you how great a show is

I introduced my niece to _RWBY_ three years ago this fall. As we were watching volume 3, I wanted to stop for the night about halfway through (after the Yang/Mercury fight); she absolutely _insisted_ on staying up to watch the rest of it.
I maintain to this day she has no one to blame for her crying herself to sleep that night but herself.

To this day I still believe this finale ending song is the most powerful in the entire series as it tells the broadest story and sums up everything going on in every single volume before and after it.

I love how in the midst of some of the most emotional scenes in the series, they still manage to create some of the most EXCITING scenes in the series.
I also love how EVERYBODY (save a small few) has crazy weapons with like three different forms, multiple dust synergizations, and crazy powerful applications...and James is just like...GUN.

One last note...the Queen that you saw at the end has actually been referenced several times. You just didn't know it. Early on, we saw Ozpin get a text from Qrow: "Queen has pawns." This referred to Cinder, Roman, and company as her pawns. Then in one of the last episodes, Cinder mentions how "she" was right about Ozpin, "she" again being the Queen that hasn't yet been named onscreen. And of course, every time we see the computer virus that the villains used, a chess queen appears on the terminal screens, which also refers to her. (We also meet the person who created that virus later.) There may be other references that I'm missing as well.

Like that when everyone is falling and holding hands, Pyrrha falls away from the rest of the group.

Yeah. I actually discovered RWBY right as this volume finished airing. So I was able to binge all the way till here, and then had to wait a year. Arguably the worst possible time for your first battle with “Hiatus,” the biggest bad of all of RWBY
this volume is always my favorite when i see new people react to it specifically for these episodes as someone who watched when they were first releasing because this can only simulate HALF of the pain and anguish the fandom felt about it's events. imagine having to wait a week between each episode. LMAO glad you could join the rollercoaster that is RWBY and im excited to go through your entire playlist!!

Although it has not been confirmed to my knowledge, I believe Roman's involvement was similar to Adam's when Cinder approached him the SECOND time, after gaining part of the Fall Maiden's powers. The Bad Guys approached them both separately to join their side and both Roman and Adam realised they could not win against them, so they were "forced" to join up.
Roman could not "afford to lose" because if he didn't play along, he'd be killed. It's why he says that Ruby can't stop them but neither can he.
RIP Roman "Fabio" Torchwick - my favourite character in RWBY.
Roman was actually a good villain! His demeanor and voice acting really shined while he was around. In the monologues were on point

The thing I like to point out for everyone when they get to this point is to remember that the train attack that happened last volume was supposed to take place at the same time as all these other attacks but the team forced Roman to launch early. Can you just imagine the devastation that would've caused?

Again, welcome to the REAL RWBY. You made it through the first 3 Volumes. Now you know what it was like when we first watched the series and why so many people fell in love with it. The story did a complete 180 from where we thought it was going to go, in the beginning. Throughout the entire series, there were hints about what was really coming later on. The background conversations between Ozpin and Glinda and Ironwood, especially after Qrow entered the mix.
Not only has the story been on point but the sound design and effects are the best I can remember hearing for getting immersed into the show, before. The music fits in perfectly as well. That's why they've actually won awards for it, inside and outside of the U.S.
Loving watching your reactions to it. It's really too bad you missed the arm being severed though. That would have been an even bigger punch in the gut, like it was for us. It just proved that our heroes aren't invulnerable, unlike so many who are in other movies and series. That's one of the main reasons why we repeatedly reminded you to try to keep an eye out for things and to remember certain things, especially. Such as when Ozpin walked in with a plate of cookies when he met Ruby and said, "You...have silver eyes." Also, how Ruby mentioned, when talking to her mom's headstone (personally, I still don't think she's dead since they just said that she'd never returned, not that they saw her die), that she hadn't figured out why Ozpin had let her into the school so early.
Well, as we mentioned before, RT will show something happen and then explain how it happened later on. They did that at the end of the last chapter of the volume when they showed her powers that come from her having the silver eyes. You know, now, that that is the reason she was bumped ahead. He needed someone with her capabilities as soon as he could get her into the school and trained.
I do want to say, good catch last time on the trailer recall about Blake and Adam.
The arrow in Pyrrha's ankle was to remind everyone who she was based on and how he died. Achilles is her base and he died because of his weakness in his heel because of how he was dipped into the water when he was given his invulnerability.
Roman Torchwick is based off of the main character in a movie that Monty really liked, the old British movie "A Clockwork Orange."
So, now you've gotten through the main emotional roller-coaster. As was mentioned by the evil boss woman, Salem, and by the title of the chapter, this was the "end of the" 3 volume "beginning" of the series where you're introduced to the characters, get some back story, and get the lead up to the main plot. The series is considered to be broken up into volume sections, such as this being the beginning of the story, which is also why Salem said that it was "the beginning of the end" for Ozpin, and is why they called it Volumes for the seasons and Chapters for the episodes.
I hope this helped explain some of what was going on that you may have missed and why we commented about things the way we did. I just hope you weren't spoiled about things too much. Well, besides RT spoiling that Pyrrha would die in their intro. originally I had no idea that Pyrrha was destined to die, even with RoosterTeeth telling us that in the beginning, but I honestly think I had to go way over my head. From the sound design, from the soundtrack, from the story, from the references, everything is perfect in my eyes! I literally have no complaints about the show and will continue going on with it.

This reaction is amazing as always. The sorrow and anguish in ruby’s voice when she says “leave her alone” will always hit me. She’s just lost a good friend she doesn’t wanna loose another (that didn’t end well🥴. Still hurts for us all)
Ruby is always my fave no matter what criticism (some that I will agree with for later vols) but she will always be my number 1 because I related to her so much when I was younger and still do.
But here and further on she takes ozpins words to heart when he says with her putting herself last and wearing the leader badge all the time. You will see that also when the volumes progress but here is where it starts and just bless her heart man
Everyone has gone through a lot but she has gone through so much more in my eyes. Watching a dear friend gets sliced into bits (Penny) and literally watching Pyrrha be disintegrated has got to weigh heavy on your heart and her mind… I gave her so much respect for just moving forward with all that going on

So.... yeah. Pain. Honestly this is where the show really takes a turn and switches its tone to really show us how in danger the people of Remnant truly are. Pyrrha was planned to be a martyr from the beginning, but I still tear up every time I watch her get killed, and Rubys anguished screams just add to the pain. These first three volumes were truly just to set up the conflict for the rest of the series and thats just mind blowing. If you remember from the very first episode, that same woman's voice is that did the intro and also she narrates some on the World of Remnant episodes!
Going on from here you might see some comments about how the show really slows down but I urge you to ignore them and go into this new section with an open mind. Trust me when I tell you theres still so much ahead :)

It’s so crazy to think that Pyrrha was the initial martyr from the very get-go. This was the most excruciating slow burn I’ve experienced in my life probably. Everything acclimated perfectly for people to be ripped in several pieces at the end of volume three. What an amazing show
I will continue the series but after a week off just to recuperate on a personal level. Not just from the show, but for some personal things. Nothing bad, just need to re-calibrate and refresh :)

I already have a strong lingering feeling that something regarding volume 8 is going to be that other pain points. It’s a good thing that we have volumes in between in the meantime, but I’m already having preparation anxiety regarding that volume.

There was a major foreshadowing in the opening credits, in the snippet that you showed...RWBY and JNPR falling, holding hands in a circle, and then Pyrrha suddenly spins away from them, and then they are all scattered as they fall, followed by RWBY sitting with their backs to each other looking lost and alone.
Exactly what happened in the finale.
One thing to note in that sequence is that while the rest of Team RWBY all have their heads down in despair, Ruby herself is still looking upward.
Because that's who she is. The eternal optimist, who (even though it sometimes takes a while) will always find a stray thread of silver lining in any stormcloud; a tiny spark of light in the darkness; the a lone ember of hope to rekindle; _some_ reason, no matter how small, to keep moving forward. And if no one else can see it, she will _be_ that silver lining, that spark, that ember; and she will press on and shine brighter and brighter until she becomes a shining beacon of hope for others so they can do the same.

Congratulations! You just finished the prologue!! This is the part that either solidifies ones love of the series or breaks them to their core. I honestly hope you continue, but at the same time you shouldn't keep doing something that makes you unhappy. I remember watching as it was coming out and thinking the show was freaking awesome but way too lighthearted, so this was exactly the kind of stuff I was hoping would happen at some point.

And with that, welcome, officially, to RWBY. The pieces are all in motion, now the players begin their game.
Also, as people have been saying, RWBY Chibi, a short-form comedy series, is greatly recommended since it very clearly shows you need some laughs. Volume 4 picks up around 6 to 8 months after Volume 3, and has a overall theme of healing throughout, which definitely helps. Make a huge note of this too, there is a character short before Volume 4, the Ruby character short, which shows off what the show will look like from now on, Volumes 1-3 were made in Poser, but Volume 4 onward, they switched to Maya, which vastly improves the visuals and character models, as well as the environments and backgrounds.

Also, imagine how stressful it was to be a fan back when this Volume was coming out, especially since the chapters release weekly, it was just a general feeling of unease and fear within the community as a whole. Just know, from now on, whenever you see a character's Aura breaking, that's a red flag that a character is in deep trouble, not that they're doomed to die, just that they're in desperate danger, it's a staple of the show's storytelling from here onward.

"Do you believe in destiny?"
We first heard this line from Pyrrha way back in V3C8--"Destiny", appropriately enough--when she was voicing her worries to Jaune about getting into the Maiden-O-Matic pod and having Amber's soul zapped into hers. We find out immediately thereafter that Pyrrha has kind of a strange definition of "destiny": She doesn't believe in any sort of predestined fate; rather, she believes your destiny is something you make for yourself, something you work towards your entire life. (I've had one person tell me that this is closer to the classical meaning of "destiny", as opposed to the modern meaning, where it's pretty much a synonym of "fate". Dunno if that's true, but it wouldn't surprise me.)
And Pyrrha believes her destiny is to protect Remnant. Not any specific person or group; no, Pyrrha thinks big. She wants to protect the world. Initially she thought she'd do that by becoming a huntress; later, despite her misgivings, she thought she'd accomplish it by becoming the Fall Maiden.
Cut to V3C12. Everything's gone to shit. Beacon is being overrun by Grimm, Cinder's put an arrow through Amber's heart and claimed the full power of the Fall Maiden, and Ozpin's just told Pyrrha and Jaune to GTFO before Cinder kills them both. And as the two of them run outside, they hear something that sounds distinctly like a homicidal Fall Maiden flying up an elevator shaft. Unpursued.
And right at that moment, something clicks in Pyrrha's mind. This is it, she realizes. This is what I have to do.
There's no rational reasoning behind it, no particular logic that tells her she will succeed where Ozpin failed. Just...faith. Faith that her destiny, her life goal of protecting Remnant, lies at the top of that tower.
Jaune doesn't get it, of course. That kind of faith rarely makes sense from an outside perspective. She can't explain it; all she can do is break both their hearts with a first--and last--kiss. Then she shoves him into the rocket locker and sends him away for help, and Magnetos her way up to the top of the tower.
The fight that follows, of course, is quite possibly the greatest of the entire show so far. We see Pyrrha, impossibly, hold her own against a fully empowered Fall Maiden. And for just a moment, we believe, and see her believe, that she might win, or at least last long enough for help to arrive--especially when we see that Ruby and Weiss are on their way.
Then comes the arrow to the heel. We all know Pyrrha's based on Achilles; we know she's screwed now. Cinder walks over and starts gloating, but when Pyrrha looks up at her--
She hasn't given up. There's no despair, nor even the slightest hint of uncertainty in her face. She looks Cinder straight in the eye, defiant to the last, and asks her, "Do you believe in destiny?"
She knows she's lost. She knows she's probably about to die. Yet that same unshakable faith remains: she doesn't know how, or why, but she knows that even if she dies here, she will not have died for nothing. Somehow, she will die fulfilling her destiny. Somehow, in death, she will save Remnant.
I don't watch Red vs. Blue--something I intend to remedy as soon as I finish writing this--but a monologue from that show has been brought to my attention for the parallels it has with Pyrrha's situation here.
"There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero...never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just have to have faith... Ain't that a bitch."
I don't know the context for that monologue--something about an AI sacrificing itself, I think?--but Pyrrha's situation and last words are a parallel and a counterpoint to this speech at the same time. Pyrrha not only has no way of knowing if her sacrifice will actually make a difference, she doesn't even know how it would. And yet the sentiments expressed in that speech probably never even cross her mind, because she had that faith. Even lying there, defeated and broken, she still believes with all her heart that this is the destiny she's been working towards her whole life.
"Yes."
Cinder's one-word reply is almost as meaningful despite its brevity. I wish I could start this off by pointing out that it looks like she's starting to cry as she says this, but sadly it's been pointed out to me that the "tears" are just reflections in her eyes, visible in many other close-ups. ANYWAY! Recall that Pyrrha's definition of "destiny" is pretty weird, almost the opposite of what it's usually taken to mean nowadays. The odds are pretty low that Cinder shares the same definition.
In other words, what Cinder is saying here is the opposite of what Pyrrha meant. She's saying that her victory here at the tower was fate. That everything that happened here--Yang's framing, Pyrrha's accidental killing of Penny, the White Fang/Grimm attack, Cinder's claiming of the Fall Maiden's powers, the fall of Beacon--all of it was predestined, inevitable, unstoppable, and by extension so is her master's eventual victory over all of Remnant.
In agreeing with Pyrrha, then, she's denying Pyrrha's unshakable faith. She's saying that everything Pyrrha has done to try and stop her has been pointless, that her suicidal blaze of glory has accomplished nothing. And immediately thereafter, she tries to prove the point by ending Pyrrha's life then and there.
If only she'd listened to a quote from her creator.

I'm sure you all will agree that the prescience of this quote is...a little unnerving, to say the least. But regardless of its relevance to Monty's own life and work, it's the theme that lies at the very core of this scene.
Pyrrha, broken but defiant to the last, is dealt a mortal blow, then reduced to ashes upon the wind. And for a moment it looks as if Cinder was right, as if Pyrrha's faith in her destiny was misplaced, that she has died for nothing.
But there to witness her death is little silver-eyed Ruby Rose, who unknowingly held within herself a power that Cinder, so confident in the inevitability of her victory, never could have expected or accounted for.
If Pyrrha had never climbed that tower, perhaps Ruby would have unlocked her powers eventually. But it would have likely taken far longer--time that Salem and Cinder would use to capitalize upon their victory, perhaps even move upon the other kingdoms. But Pyrrha's sacrifice, at that moment, directly resulted in the Grimm dragon being removed from play, and in Ruby discovering that she is far more powerful than she could have ever imagined. And I suspect that Cinder did not get away unscathed, either.
Pyrrha never got the chance to see her faith rewarded, to see that her death there paved the way to victory. But she didn't need to see. She already knew.

I agree with most of what you said here. However, I would like to point out a couple of things:
Firstly, Pyrrha's and Cinder's definitions of destiny aren't that dissimilar. Like Pyrrha, Cinder views destiny as a final goal that one works towards their entire life. Does Cinder also feel like she is destined to win in the end and that the magic powers of Ozma and Salem deserve to be hers? Absolutely. However, Cinder's definition of destiny is more of a dark reflection of Pyrrha's rather than a polar opposite.
Secondly, Cinder has *_NEVER_* once cared about Salem or viewed her as anything more than another abuser or a resource for Cinder to exploit in order to get what she wants. In fact, Cinder hates Salem probably more than anyone else in history. Every action Cinder has taken throughout the entire series has been for the purpose of surpassing and overthrowing Salem in order to be the most powerful being in the world. Teacher? Yes. But master? Never. Cinder cares for no one but herself, and longs for the day when she will be able to exact her revenge upon Salem for how she has been treated by her - for daring to think that she was *_better_* than Cinder.
Cinder's destiny, in her eyes, is the acquisition of ultimate power to become to most powerful being of all and take over the world, exacting vengeance upon the world for its injustices against her and punishing all those who ever defied her or put her down (including, especially, Salem). And given how things are looking currently, Cinder looks to be well on her way to achieving that.

There's a big distinction between before and after. The fact that they change animation engines here is really just coincidental but it kinda helps reinforce that too ^^

It's a really good twist! But like, we're all overwhelmed already so while it can hit hard it's difficult to summon the energy to express that.
Last video I said I wanted to say something about the structure of RWBY's story. I'm pretty sure Rooster Teeth told us this in the break before volume 4, but regardless this is the point where I think it's not spoiling anything. It's quite fitting, and also as far as naming goes a little ironic since unlike most shows RWBY uses chapters and volumes: The story is structured around seasons. We began in spring, the season of birth, rebirth and beginnings. This is where new lives blossom, new adventures begin. Summer comes next with flourishing, energy, living the chaos of life. Volume 3 is fall, and well... I don't need to say more. What's coming up is winter, a time when really not as much happens. The outside is cold, nature doesn't move, it waits for spring. And it's a time of recovery. Initially the plan was for every volume to be a new season, but that didn't pan out fully in the end. It's still seasonal, just not strictly one per volume. And also I think the seasons are metaphorical, the show has actual like nature-seasons passing but I don't know that they correspond fully to the story-seasons. Maybe, I forget. But it means volume 4 is going to be calmer. We viewers can recover too.
And recovering, is what we shall do.

I like that idea of the stories structure and I cannot wait to see how people recover and proceed in the series
Unfortunately for Pyrrha (and the world at large), the only reason she was able to even land a single blow on Cinder was because Cinder wasn't even trying. Cinder knows that she is so far beyond Pyrrha's level, with or without magic, that she decided to merely toy with Pyrrha and use Pyrrha as a guinea pig to test out her new Maiden powers. We even see Cinder hovering in the air waiting for Pyrrha to get up and come at her again. Even if Cinder had no magic, she would still have wrecked Pyrrha in a fight - Cinder's skill level as a fighter is just too great in comparison (perhaps the second most skilled fighter besides Ozpin himself). Mercury even said in Volume 2 that Cinder would take Pyrrha no problem.
Unfortunately for Pyrrha, she was dead the moment she decided to try and fight Cinder.

Yeah...that's pretty much how I felt after watching volume 3. It was a bit different for me, though, since I watched each chapter as they were released...the wait between chapters 6 and 7 was literally months! MONTHS! So much happened in this volume that you feel kind of empty afterward. Actually, I assume it was worse for you since you watched 3 chapters at a time for this volume, so it would've definitely felt like sensory overload. I am glad that you decided to continue with the series. I almost quit this show several times (after volume 3 because it was volume 3, and a few other times that I won't mention since you're not that far yet). But, you know, this show keeps beckoning me back somehow, and I'm glad that I've stuck with it!

I remember just feeling drained after the volume 3 finale. I couldn't watch the show for a while after that. The next time I watched the show was the volume 4 premiere, which I watched at a movie theatre (volume 4 short, chapter 1, cast interviews)
