Finally somebody shining the light on solid state amps!
Yea for sure! I have 2 solid states that I absolutely love!
cheers!!
I've got the super crush 100 and I love it. I run it through an orange 4x12 and use a Acapulco Gold pedal with a p90 loaded Gretsch. I don't think I'll ever change my equipment
Hell yeah!!!
That sounds like a really cool set up. What style Gretsch?
@@deadharvest29 its an electromatic jet model G5210-P90
@@masonbishop4289 Cool! I’ve heard good things about those Acapulco Gold pedals too. I currently play a Bugera 6262 head (a hidden gem in my opinion) through an Orange 412 with a Rat, MXR Carbon Copy delay & Valhalla Fuzz pedals. Epiphone Les Paul Custom Prophecy guitar.
I have to give a shout out for the Orange Pedal Baby. I’m currently running one with a Hudson Broadcast as my preamp into an orange 2x12. It’s a compact doom rig, but loud as hell. Easily keeps up with the rest of band in a rehearsal space.
My first rig was a Crown power amp and a metal zone pedal! it was 100 watt a side but the left side had gone DC so I popped the fuse to that block and used it as mono power amp. Crushingly loud!
Another suggestion for solid state amps is the Marshall Mode Four head. like the Crown, its effectively 2 heads (one side is a clean crunch and then the other is od1 and od2) Its voicing is a bit scooped, but an EQ pedal in the loop and cranking the mids can fix that. More gain than you need on the OD channels (OD1 and a tube screamer is basically the JCM 800 thrash sound from the 80s), but the built in digital reverb and the clean channel are where this thing shines. Sparkling clean tones and it loves nothing better than a filthy pedal or two driving it. 280 watts of solid state power and MASSIVE headroom. When paired with a suitable cab, you'll have this thing on 2 and be deaf! I changed the preamp tubes to 12AX7s and it pushes the drive into sludgy fuzz territory. Stick a Boss multi FX unit in the loop and off you go! a perfectly gigable rig. they do have a limited lifetime due to the resistors burning out, but I love mine, even though I mostly use a Laney these days.
I should mention the Laney Linebacker as well. i have a soft spot for those, but they are a one trick pony, however ive seen them for silly money. Stick a fuzz in front of it and have fun with the horrible sounds you can conjure!
great additions to the list thank you!
I know what I'm going to get this Christmas!

The Peavey Practice amp referred to here is the Decade 10 watt model. Definitely a little hard to find as a result of the hype, but all those earlier Peavey practice amps have a really neat sound. In addition to the Musician model, the Standard 260 Series is a great option, and also used by Josh Homme in Songs For The Deaf era. The Centurion Mkiii (bass head) loves guitars as well, and has a sort of sludgy overdrive to it. I’ve heard it said that it was Peavey’s stab at a Sunn-style amp. Got ahold of one recently and it’s a doom machine.
thank you so much for the info!!
A sleeper SS amp you can find for next to nothing (200 - 300 bucks) is the Randall RH150G3. It has the biggest low end I ever heard in an amp and is loud as hell, the distortion is really good sounding as well!
Small and compact go for an Bluguitar Amp1! I use the Iridium edition for my Doom band and it sounds great at bedroom volume and can get very very loud!
Randall makes such amazing solid state amps!! I’ll add that to the list of amps to
Keep an eye out for 🙏
Love my super crush, definitely pick one up, orange doesnt miss
Speaking of peavey, they did a head version of the bandit called the transtube supreme. The transtubes can't do stoner or sludge without a pedal, but for every other form of doom and also post metal, the lead channel rips, especially with good speakers.
I love my Peavey Century, it has an awesome parametric EQ, low and high gain inputs and it takes pedals really well, especially through the low gain input.
hell yeah!
Definitely would LOVE a Super Crush review! Been looking at them for a bit now and want to hear some proper doom and stoner stuff and see how it handles fuzz and distortion pedals
I own one and its my favorite amp for gigs. I usually play Punkrock, but it definetly gets into stoner and doom territory especially with a fuzz or rat Pedal. Drive channel is what i am talking about, it has a löt of low end.
@@flotenn3351 my dad actually just bought me a Super Crush 100 as a birthday gift, and I can confidently say it's one of the best amps I own. It has that signature Orange midrange, and it has a specific solid state thing that sounds super good and crisp. Amazing for doom!
I've been touring with my Hilbish 700 for two years now on bass and it has been outstanding. Before the Hilbish I was using an Acoustic 470 head which was the loudest amp I've played.
Great video!
Thanks!
Sunn amps are freaking awesome!
Orange Pedal Baby, it’s essentially just the clean side of the Super Crush. High, Lows and Volume. All you need. Grab a couple of them and run a stereo rig or wet dry wet rig.
A pair of those would be brutal!
Another great video Jason. Try the Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 head and you'll be very surprised!
I’ll look into that one thanks Mike!
The Super Crush 100 is a great amp especially for the price, the clean channel takes pedals very well, and the distortion channel rips. I was having issues with the dirty channel lacking bass, until I discovered that the 3 band eq each react to each other, so you gotta turn the mids and treble down a bit if you're looking for a thick sound. I did a demo video on my channel, but I'd really love to see how you demo it!
Putting an EQ pedal in the effects loop is a game changer for the Dirty channel. I use one on my Crush 120 and it really helps.
The boss Katana head is a versatile piece of gear at a lower price point than the crush 100. I used it with the FU-2 and it sounded amazing
I’m really interested in the Quilter Overdrive 202.
Heard so many good things about them!
Look up any recent videos of Cave In. That's all they've been using.
I've got the Boss Katana and it is so doomy!
Such a good amp!
Thank you for doing this 🤘I've got a Marshall Valvestate 8200 which I love, it has two 100 watt stereo power amplifiers in the power section which is fun. An amp I've been wanting to find for a long time is a Peavey Century 200H, the sound samples I've heard of that thing are gnarly. The Sunn Alpha series amplifiers are cool as well and not nearly as expensive as original Beta series amps are now days.
Solid State & Feelin' Great 😃🤘
truth!
Picked up a 73-74 Sunn Concert Lead Silverface model recently. I didn't wanna drop that much dough on a tube rig. I'm not disappointed. It's a precursor to the red knob and it's awesome. A little brighter, less extreme distortion/od than red concert or beta lead
badass amp!
I had an old acoustic control corp 410 combo amp that was unreal. Bought it for $35 from a storage unit sale. It was one of the loudest amps I’ve ever had. Super warm and took pedals so well. My rat sounded amazing through it. Def could see that head being awesome.
I gotta get my hands on one someday!
I was so close to getting the Super Crush 100.
Awesome amp 🎸
I really want to grab one also!!! Thanks for watching!
If you ever get around to one you will not be let down. I play all over the board in genre's and it handles all of them no problem. Very adaptable.
I've been thinking about the Sunn PreAmp teamed up with a power amp of some sort. That way I can plug into anything I want with it and still have that Sunn tone.
Marshall mode four. Period.
350watt solid state “hybrid head” with pre amp valves.
400w oversized cab, celestion GK-100w speakers.
Hiwatt Bigcrunch 350 is a monster.
I love Hiwatt!
I have the Peavey Musician Mark lll (1979) and love it. It's my main gig amp and loud AF.
nice!!!!
Acoustic 150 with vintage sunn 412sp cab has been my main doom machine for the past 6 months. Havent even touched my tube amps..
Again, another killer and very helpful video. Your shared knowledge is very much appreciated brother. I would like to pick your brain. Maybe a video on your thoughts regarding speakers and cabinets suitable for doom. Any insight on how to do it on the cheap? thanks man
Thanks Jason! I’m glad it’s helpful and I’ll def try to do a cab/speaker video in the future. This is a bit of a new style of video for me and having a lot fun just checking out gear and people providing their suggestions as well!
On the topic of solid state amps, does anyone have any experience with the Laney Digbeth amps with guitar?
I’d love to see you demo the Super Crush 100. It would be cool too if you could demo it into a cab, but also a little bit of what the DI out sounds like.
Good idea!!
I really like the CR120, cheap and loud. I use a Matamp GT120 preamp clone into the effects send into a Marshall 4x12. Sounds great!
I gotta get another soon for a demo! Thanks for watching!
my next amp will most likely be the Super Crush 100 head....thought about getting a used Crush Pro 120 but the new version is supposed to have a few improvements over the 120 according to the Orange website.
great video man..really good selections here
They seem like such a good amp!
I use a Sunn Alpha PA head. 4 separate channels with their own controls. No gain control but it can get fuzzy if you crank up the channel volume. I like using it to run separate distortion, or amp pedals to get unique tones.
I bet these are a lot of affordable than a vintage Beta Lead too!
Jason, I gotta send u a clip of my Sunn Stagemaster amp head sometime soon. Lmk best way to send that to you.
I have an orange th100 tube head but my go to is an orange pedal baby. I was told its the clean from the super crush? Dont know if its true, but i use the pedal baby. My source of dirt is a fet 120 getting hit with a mild OD, a fuzz wah digitech synth wah and a carbon copy. So in essence a pedal based rig and it just hits the sauce hard
Ampeg SS-150 is definitely one I am looking forward to copping. Tremendous gain out of a combo amp.
I’ll have to look that one up!! Thanks for watching 🙏
i am a simple man; i see melvins, i click
The Decade was the Peavey practice amp you were thinking of.
I have a crush 12 that can get a pretty sick electric wizard/sleep/stoner doom tone, i just use my metal zone as a Boost lol. Its a pretty small amp but it gets pretty loud and has that mid Focused bite
Another Peavey amp to check out is Peavey Reknown.
They are 2 channels and 160W
Lots of headroom to work with and take pedals really well.
One if my first bands the other guitar player had one - we liked the tone when using gain into both the clean and gain channels.
The guitar player hated moving the amp as it took 2 of us to move it
I gotta look that one up!
I have a peavey renown 400. It’s like other renown only it’s 210 watts with two scorpion speakers
I used to have one of those musician 400, the built in distortion was pretty wild, almost metallic sounding if that makes sense? It was really harsh and basically unusable. But it was loud as sin. I had it installed with a PV412f with eminence wizard and swamp thangs.
The best SS amp for my tastes with guitar was the red knob sunn concert lead I had around the same time.
Nice speakers!
I have a Hilbish Beta Amplifier 200 I run through an Orange PPC212 at 16ohms. I can tell you it’s unbelievably loud. That 700 could be lethal. I’ve had the pedal version Hilbish does as well; the Sol Invictus. Run into and effects return of an amp it has insane output. I suspect there’s something about that pre amp contributing to the overall volume. I’ve seen that Buzzo from the Melvin’s live has not only used the rack Beta Pre amp but the pedal version from Hilbish as well. Into his monstrous power amps of course. Either way a Hilbish will definitely get the volume job done.
That is so badass you got one! I really like what they make 🖤🔊
Love my TS-50B. Got the combo for 75€ shipped. Not often to see it in Europe. Great overdrive. Big knobs. Less controls. What not to love about that?
Great deal!
Cant wait for the black metal drop
I wonder how different are the Sunns from the US to the ones made in Mexico
You can disable the cabsim on the Orange Super Crush 100. There is a push-button switch right next to the xlr jack.
Really?!?!?? That is so badass! Now I really want to grab one!
@@FuzzlordEffects my mistake. The switch let's you choose open or closed back. It doesn't disable it.
I borrowed an Acoustic Model 160 it was all tube and it was basically a Mesa clone
Test the Super crush 100, this Amp is amazing.
I really hope to do a demo on the channel soon!
Didn't the strokes use a peavey practice amp on is this it for vocals?
I think so! They had such a good vocal sound too
Ampeg Micro vr. 4 ohm min 200w SVT sound 100% SS. Need a boost to get a good break up, but oh man they sound great. Matching cabs are awesome too.
Matching cabs are so rad!
Please drop a Super Crush demo!
I hope to!
I own two of the 1st gen Peavey Musicians and ill NEVER get rid of them. Integral part of my sound. I run them through 4 Peavey 412F oversized cabs.
Matching cabs work so well with these, proper impedance. What a badass rig!
I have the Bass version of that Peavey Musician, they're not as sought after the 70s stuff so I got mine for like £100. It is L O U D, the EQ is kinda crazy as well. I have a CR120H too and the two together are insane for either a bass or guitar rig that probably cost me under £450 including cabs.
Great price for that!
Got a '78 mark iii bass head for $100, I use it almost every day
That’s a score!
A super crush video would be great ( ft any everytime I die riff )
I’ll try to make that happen soon!
🔥🔥🔥
The greatest and best amp of all time - the Crate PowerBlock 🙏
Great price too!
@@FuzzlordEffects....until JHS makes a video about them, and they skyrocket in price 😵
I just got a musician 400 master volume and it’s horrible. I’m usually a big peavey fan so I’m not sure if something is just wrong with mine
It seems like people either love or hate them! I had a different amp in the past that I didn’t like but everyone else seemed to and kept wondering if it needed repair
SC100 + Katzenkönig(+Noisegate)= ❤
I still have a 1970's H||H IC100S. Awesome amp.
badass!
Me too, and an IC100 czcams.com/video/Elt0mdpZLvI/video.htmlsi=03oGZ1ICl9Uei9-l

Me too! Have an IC100 too. Just made a demo of pedals stacked into the IC100. CZcams won't let me post links but it's on my channel
Is this a trick question? There no good solid state amps. They can’t respond and flex like a vacuum tube does. Plus the wattage has to be at least 3-4 times of what a tube amp is. So if you have a 100 watt Marshall you’d need to get a 400 watt solid state to match volumes and not be drowned out. Big however there are some great solid state bass amps like acoustic (not the new stuff), Sunn, peavy.
The power misunderstandings are also covered in this video :)
Boss Katana? any love ?
It was in the other Doom Amps On A Budget video (: Great amp for the price!
Weird omission of any Quilter amps. Ignore the size, they are absolutely loud as all hell and sound great. I've been seeing them get use from a bunch of bands from Russia circles, holy fawn, slomatics and even saw a picture of Matt Pike with one for High on Fire tour.
Yeah man. Check out Slabdragger from the UK. He uses a Quilter and it sounds massive
Mosfet Marshalls are some of the greatest solid state amps ever made.
Which model??
@@FuzzlordEffects Well i personally own the 3310. Basically a jcm800 with mosfet transistors. 100 watts, super loud, takes pedals well! The Mosfet lead 100 is the more well known version of it.
Yamaha G100 !!!
Just firing this up now. One that I pretty-much guarantee won't be on here is the HH IC100 or IC100S. Old British SS amp from the 70s. I have a pile of them, and they're really cheap here. Beta Lead killer for a quarter if the price (but creeping up). Tim from Part Chimp uses them. Most famous user was Mark Bolan. I'll make a demo.
Love my H-H electronics Studio-Fifty.
Please do make a demo!

Quilter anyone? Full stack of two 1x15?

🙏
My 20 year old Fender Metalhead is a beast. Headroom for days, takes pedals like a champ, and 500 watts!
I use the TC Electronics BAM200 in my sludge band for bass. It works well with pedals and fits in my gig bag.
Greg Ginn of Black Flag edged into early doom territory (side two of the My War album). The Peavey 260 PA system amps are still relatively cheap and used a form factor common to other amps like the Peavey Musician 400.
