- We are having quite a cold spell this March in the UK and in this weeks episode I cruise my narrowboat towards the beautiful quaint town of Whitchurch, travelling with two other boats to tackle the lift bridges. I also explore Whitchurch on a very snowy day and visit St Alkmunds Church with its stunning stained glass windows.

No sail, nor crew, she has at her side, but a motor and tiller, in the channels she glide's.
She's alone with her treasure, she now calls it rum, but to take it or give it, is the rule of the thumb.
To steer such a ship, is a God given talent, with the wind at her back, is grown in such habit.
That rum that she speaks of flows just like the wind, like a ship in the bottle, no beginning nor end.
So onward she goes, from one port to another, like black beard once said that rum is a mother.😜

There I was, moored up at Audlem in my NB Otley. In just my second week of living on the canal, and I saw you sail past my window. Just as I was getting my buns out. Oi !! Stop that ! My hot cross buns out of the oven. I would have said hello, but I’m very shy. Next time I will. 🙂

Love the huge range of content in each of your vlogs. Canal cruising, messing with friends a walk around the character village and all the different weather you get within a few days. Love the snow scenes and the fires. And what a lovely person you are with your tales and laughing.

In answer to your question…Wey Home was my n/b. Lived aboard 15 years of constant cruising. Did the whole system 3 times before going back to sea delivering yachts. Fan of yours. Happy pirating. Capt John.

When I was a Marine and Stood Guard Duty for many hours we did a few Isometric Exercises to keep limber and warm... Especially when we were stuck at a remote Gate which was rarely used and we would get cold in similar Temperatures in the high 30's to 40's. So you might look into them for standing at the Helm... I have a Rain Suit from The Bass Pro shop which I wear when out on my Bass Boat and fishing all day long in the Rain... Keeps me 100% Dry. It is to heavy to wear Backpacking so I wear a TROGG'S Top and Bottom when Hiking in the Rain.... But under both suits I wear a Prima Loft Hoodie with a full length Zipper.
Watched this video and a couple of older ones yesterday.

Hello Heidi checking in from the Maritimes here in Canada. I am a 69 year old retiree. I am enjoying the English canal system through your camera lense. You tell a good storey of the history of the canal system . And of the full time cruisers lifestyle. We have a camper van so we do land travel instead of water travel .

This is very original, my old Dad spaketh it after he and Mum came back from a holiday in Wales (their last one) in 1979. They'd been to see over the amazingly ornate and richly decorated interior of Chirk Castle. Dad was so good at ditties and the like - afraid its not nautical tho' Dad was a yachtsman as was my grandfather, and my 3rd gt grandfather (1775 on) who was a narrowboat owner on the Erewash out of Long Eaton & Sawley).

Oooooooh..... That pipe organ!!!!! 1894!!!!! Wow!!!!! As an amateur pipe organized I can say the oldest organ that I've ever been able to play was a 1936 and it wasn't in the best prepare at the time. That is an impressive church and organ and all those beautiful stained-glass windows!!!!! 🎶

Yes we get 2 weeks in winter but I only usually stay 5-6 days … it all goes back to 2 days in busy spots at the end of the month though 😄🏴☠️

I discovered your channel three days ago and what should I say... for the last three days I've been destroying my Google algorithm by searching everything about boats, licenses, marinas, boat heating systems... well you get the idea.
Me: 47 yo, highheels wearing, cashmere loving, taking bath every other day lady with a seasickness. Yepp.
You need to ditch the heels as they stick in the mud 😂😂 baths use too much water but depending on the size of your water tank I can shower every day and use my washing machine once a week and the water tank lasts me just over 2 weeks before I need to refill 😃🏴☠️

Cruising with friends in a convoy has a lot of good things going on especially with those lift bridges sharing the chores.
That was a real big badge order from the Chandlry ,its good to see them supporting Canal traders. Your weather is much like ours earlier this week my front lawn was almost snow free and this afternoon we had a couple of inches of snow in 30 mins but it wont last @c above just now goingto -6c overnight .Whitchurch looks a nice town ,love the old buildings and those gorgeous Church windows .J still doing fine Dr cut out the Paracetomol so she's not dozing off so much during the day now.

I was thinking about the traditional boatman’s cabin.
I was thinking that it’s like the Industrial revolution’s version of a “tiny house”.
Those families had decades or even generations to design and perfect the layout of that space to include everything that they needed.
They had to be super clever and efficient because the rest of the boat was obviously given over to cargo.
It’s very easy to imagine just a single man or woman living in just that cabin space, but 2 adults AND 2 or more children living in there is an entirely different prospect.
It would be really interesting to see an original blueprint as well as observe the evolution over time of that cabin design and layout.
