30-06 is in my opinion as good a round as you will find without going to a magnum. It can be loaded with a vast array of bullet weights. I’m sure it equipped those soldiers well.

M1917 rifle provided by the US, armed the Philippine Commonwealth Army as well as the M1903. Some newly issued M1 Garands was also used by the American led Philippine Scouts

M1917 also had some with Winchester Barrels. There were more of them in the AEF in 1918 than M1903 it was by no means inferior.

So. Surprised to hear about the use of the bolt action rifles up to 1944, with the huge industrial production abilities of the USA I thought that mass production of the M-1 Garrand (hope the spelling is correct) would have allowed the military to catch up with the amounts needed to equip at least the front line troops, I guess that even the USA had production problems, so it is all the more fantastic that the American service personnel could fight and win the tough bloody battles that they did. Hats off to them, every man jack of them, no matter what theatres of operation they were in. Thanks for sharing another excellent insight into the American military hardware. 👍.

Didn't know about that, I thought the 1903 was not used by the us after 1942 except by snipers.

I hope that M1903A4 at 7:27 has the safety catch on, as it is pointing straight at the man next to him.

There's no real need to unshoulder it...just move your face off the stock for cycling. Longer eye relief can be achieved without the need to break the cheek weld either (despite what most people think cant be done, it just isnt tried).

  • @airbornesoldieramerica7125

Kind of see on why they went into the 5.56 mm caliber. In WW1 and WW2, Korea really need a caliber like the 30-06 or 308 for long distance shooting for more then 300 to 600 meters or yards away. But I think 30-06 etc...that is more for the front line guys infantry. But in WW2 they also use the 30 Carbine for mostly their behind forces, or their truck drivers etc..... Then wars changed again were it is more personal close combat is when they came out with the 5.56 mm and m-16 rifle, which is effective 600 meters away. And the Marines shoot out to 500 meters with the m-16.

I would rather have an 03A3 than any of them, except maybe a Garand in war. Not in war, I would rather have the 03A3 than the Garand. In fact I hope to find & buy one in really good condition someday, hopefully in the not too distant future.

It's not the gun itself which makes itself effective.- it's the sighting system that makes the rifle deadly. A scoped 1903 is much deadlier than an iron sighted M-14 or M-16. You can't hit em if you cant see them.

I assume you mean the Lee Enfield. The fastest bolt action plus a 10 round magazine.

Do n. ,t Americans talk rubbish about these things? The Lee Enfield was far and away the best bolt action battle rifle ever made, no question!

Inexcusable for American Rifleman to mis-pronounce the name of the man behind the M-1. John C. Garand's last name is pronounced: GEH-rend .......w/the accent on the FIRST syllable!
