- Finally here is my mystic by step root hair color and toner touch up tutorial, its been highly requested every time I upload an in salon color video. So here is how I get my root color and toner formula. Hope you enjoy this type of video, thanks for watching and don’t forget to subscribe!

Root formula
Color gels lacquers 1.5 oz 08NA + 1.5 oz 10 vol developer
Process for 20 mins
Toner formula
Shades eq 1.5 oz 09P+ 1.5oz processing solution
Process for about 5 mins

I love this video because it lets me know that I don't have to have precise application to do my own hair. I always worry about the back but with this technique it's kind of foolproof as long as you don't bring the shadow down too low. Thanks, Elle.

I always thought toner had to be applied to wet hair. I always learn so much from your videos! What color would you apply to gray roots to get the same dark roots light hair look? Also Could I do the same thing with 20 developer?

Thank you for telling us about the toner. I have been asking stylist for 4 years about where I can get a toner and I never get an answer. I live on a sailboat and have to color my hair myself. After a few times it is flat and dull, I need a toner. One stylist just gave me a styling product that says it adds shine. Totally different than a toner which is what I asked for. I think the thing I miss the most about living in a 1st world country is my hairstylist.

My roots are darker than yours, probably a 4 or 5, would I just use a higher developer? Say 30? With the lacquer? I am crazy for the eq shades toner! The color is great!

My hair is all grey and I dye blonde. Want to do balayage like your previous video, just very, very nervous about how to make it blend from darker to lighter shade. Sylvia, I was wondering if you have any tips on how to lighten my hair leaving my roots alone because I like how it looks I’m using the clairol 12a high lift solution with pure white I’m naturally about a level 3 or 4 and I’m at a level 7-8 on the rest of the hair.
