He also seems like a kind and giving person too. I saw the video Patrick did at his shop and was in awe then. Now seeing a little more of and about him and his shop I'm pretty blown away. Wow! Jared, WHAT AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE!!! My heart and soul are more than they were since watching this! Thank You so very much for this video. I’ve literally known and watched, more than I care to count, many gentlemen such as this great man move on to that great Lapidary Shop in the sky. Taking their vast, irreplaceable knowledge with them. Most of the great ones that come to mind left us before CZcams was here. You, my friend, have inspired me to seek out as many of these Masters as I can find. And hopefully record, as you have, just as much of the knowledge they have to share! The experience and wisdom contained within these folks is invaluable! To say the least.

Thanks for doing this one. What a service to the whole community to know the depth of what can be done with 3D printing, not to mention the depth of knowledge that Mike Zinski has. Of course the studio is one to drool over as well, the stuff of dreams. He's so right about the fact that these artforms will die if we don't keep them alive. It's great that there are folks making the parts for machines that are not being made any more, and then of course, why not engineer a new machine if one doesn't exist?! Thanks again for bringing this content to a larger audience, cheers!

Again i am the victim of "day late and a dollar short". I have a no name 6" flat lap that has a wet side and a dry side. I took it apart to convert it to DC and have been having trouble sourcing a motor for it. The original was 10k rpm and it had a variable speed control. Now I cant remember how to wire everything up and dont want to burn up the motor or speed controll. This guy has the motor figured out and i am just now hearing about him. I bet he could set me up with something more portable and possibly even help me with the idea i had for a 10" slab saw / 8" flat lap "system". Something that would let you swap out some plastic parts but use the same drive parts.

That man and his shop are absolutely amazing! I remember when patrick did a small bit about the 3d printed lab and facet machine parts!. I was really amazed by what he managed to do then. And thats before i saw all this! He has really revolutionized this industry with his 3D printed lab and the way he goes about finding a problem and finding a solution, and designing it and implementing it in minutes is amazing. And all the people he has helped and taught throughout the years is extraordinary. What a pure Blessing this man is! Its not very often you run into someone in your life, that you can say, he has truly been a benefit to mankind, and that man is. Look around at what he has accomplished, and he is still going. And he is pretty darn humble too. He is really a benefit to all those in this field and we dont even know why or who he is! Thank you so much Jared for the full video shop tour. We all need a shop like that! And through the power of 3D printing, we can have one! Well, that and that man education in cad and other 3d software and design. But you get my meaning. Thank you Jared. It was an amazing shop tour. Now everyone can go home and think about what we can do without, to be able to get a 3D printer and then upgrade our own spaces! lol

I wish that I knew someone like Mike. Both of my grandfathers were rockhounds and loved working with and finding rocks. My one grandfather passed at age fifty nine and my grandmother knew I loved rocks also made sure that I got his Scott Murray 15 pound tumbler that had some history, I was at their house the night the power went out and the motor burned out on the tumbler and my grandfather had a motor that he was able to replace it with, a GE home laundry motor, back in the 60s. When I got it life didn't allow me to use it so when I was disabled I got it out and oiled it up and the first forty eight hours I was down checking it and the next day I needed to get some sleep and when I woke up it was because of the smoke smell in the house, the motor had caught on fire and I assumed that there was a bad wire connection in the motor but it was from the fact that one of the bushings was gone and the armature was rubbing on the stater slowing down the speed of the motor and it went into the start mode and over heated and burned up the windings as well as connection board. I started to look for a new motor and because of the price of a new one I went through my used ones but I couldn't find one that matched the one that burned, since Scott Murray wasn't any more that wasn't an option. I did have a quarter hp and a three quarter hp but no third hp so I opted for the quarter hp and it had ball bearings in it so then came the pulley and the shaft was bigger so I had to get a new one but I couldn't find one the same diameter but I did find one a half inch bigger and since the motor speed was slower than the old one that was ok. Then came the mounting of motor and I had to change the location and I think it is back to where it was originally and I opted to add a switch mounted on the tumbler and I have around a year of use so far. I also used rollerblade wheels to keep the drum in place, a little over kill but I had them, now I only improvement left is to get pillow block bearings for the shafts for the drum. Luckily Thumler's got the rights to Scott Murray so the drum liners are still available. Sometimes you need to look outside the box to fix something old to get it back in use. Keep up the great videos and God bless you and your family.
