  • Hey Conure Lovers!
    In this video I thought I'd give some simple tips for conure training. Almost all of these tips transfer to other parrot species, but I kept getting asking about green cheeks so I thought I'd do a video on them specifically.
    Also worth remembering when training your green cheek is environment and noise levels. You generally want a calm environment without vibrations/loud noises to have a good training session!
    Target Training is absolutely essential with green cheeks as it helps in so many ways!

    People underestimate target training. Always do it first. Will build trust and you can use it for everything.

    My parrot whenever i try to treat him, instead of going for the food will try to bite my finger, he follows me around and stuff but still tries to bite me.

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Your treat isn’t high enough value or biting you is more reinforcing!
      It’d be worth establishing what his fave treat is and changing the way you offer itb

      Hey there, they are both green cheeks! Many people treat colour variations as different but they are all green cheeks. As such they can mate!

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  Před rokem +1

      I’d say you could begin training then!
      I wouldn’t say it’s worth training too early unless it’s step up but at that age they should be fine !

    I try to teach my cockatiel a trick for quite a while now. He has to put a yellow object into a yellow box and the blue one in a blue box. Sometimes he is making real progress and other times it is a mess! Now I start having doubts about his ability to distinguish colors. Am I expecting something of him which is unrealistic?

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  Před rokem +1

      If you’re sticking to two colours I’d say he’s capable!
      It might be worth looking at environmental factors?
      Is the cue and bridge consistent, is there stuff going on that’s disrupting him? Etc etc

    • @sietskeluytema2667
      @sietskeluytema2667 Před rokem +1

      You say that he can not distinguish more than two colors? I sometimes add a third color (red) and a few weeks ago I added even a fourth color (green). Is it a coincidence that he seems to understand it on some of his brighter days? Or are they in fact colorblind?

    • @sietskeluytema2667

      @@sietskeluytema2667 they can definitely see colour but in a different way to us as they see uv!
      He can possibly do more colours but from what I’ve seen and others have had success with they do hit an upper limit!
      What I meant is 2 is definitely going to be fine for him to handle, more is possible!

    I’ve always loved birds and had some and I’ve done my fair share of research but my birds wouldn’t let me touch them so I let them be to not stress them out. I would try to give much as affection as I could but I can’t be there all the time due to family circumstances. My birds passed years ago but I want to get back at it. But I don’t think it that will be good because of not being there. Should I get a bird?

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  Před rokem +2

      That’s entirely your choice.
      Having parrots does take time and commitment, so if you think you don’t have enough then maybe it isn’t the best choice.
      However if you provide them a very big enclosure, get multiple birds so they have company and make the time you do spend with them quality time then maybe it could work.
      Both things are worth considering

      Training is very useful as it’s basically developing trust and love further. Birds train and learn from each other in the wild as part of the flock so we need to help them with that at home and to thrive in our environment

      Sadly I don’t have much specific advice here. It’s a sad situation.
      Time, extra attention, maintaining routine, training and all the usual things are the best things to do.
