Kudos to your camera person Joe, they do a great job.
Thanks Keith I'm sure she will read this
What a great system! Elaine from Canada here, admiring how you’re capturing the waste materials and ending up with a trailer full of clean wood. How satisfying is that? Can you imagine if all that by-product just fell on the ground? Ughh. That 405 is certainly a dream machine. Love how the camera follows along the process too, gives us a real sense of the movement and sounds of the operation. Have a great week, cheers
Glad you like it Elaine! My wife is doing pretty good with the camera for sure!
Back in April I did a truck load of beech up in Maine. Super heavy wood hard to split. I don't have any in my part of Massachusetts. It's supposed to burn nice and hot.
Good morning my favorite things to do sit in my recliner with an ice cold dr. pepper and watch you work lol have a good one
Glad to have you on board Billy!
Hi Joe - it’s Big Rodders in Ireland. I enjoy splitting beech whenever I get it. While it is mainly straight grained and the wood and bark splits easily it is liable to explode under pressure when knots etc are met. I’ve had pieces airborne for 8 feet on my 8hp vertical splitter - unsuspecting bystanders jump nearly as high with the explosive noise, all highly amusing to me!
LOL That must be fun to watch. LOL. I haven't had one explode yet but there have been some interesting knots inside them
I'm lucky to live on the edge of an ancient beech tree woodland - we have some trees 4 or 5 feet in diameter. The wood was used in the past for charcoal to power the iron works in the valley.
lovely wood for the fire..
Where do you live taff?
@@ohiowoodburner South Wales, UK - South East corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Joe : OWB should be receiving a nice advertising check from Atlas Van Lines (World Class Moving) for the air time featuring that old trailer 😊
haha! I feel the same Alan!
Not a sponsor....lol
We have a fair bit of beech in our area. Beech makes really nice firewood.
I remember back 20 years ago when everybody was wearing a hat or t-shirt that said " Life is a Beech!" Now...As a Midwest person I finally understand what they meant! Thanks, Joe...👍
har har. Prob not the type of beach people were dreaming of around here!
@ohiowoodburnerltd2409 If they are Midwest woodhounds they are dreaming of it!😉 We have a few around our ares, but not many. Sure, some great firewood when I can get my hands on some!
Get couple empty barrel and burn the waste bark. If there no restriction on burning. You get rid of the waste
I can't help but think I would get in trouble from the city. But it has crossed my mind LOL
That 405 is the cats meow!
I concur Harold!
Love Beech Joe. Splits nice and burns better!
Great Stuff Joe
Joe it is awesome to see some tougher wood going through the 405, nice work! At the end when you were showing the finished product and hitting pieces of firewood together it sounds dry already. Thanks for the show!
This stuff was far from dry. It was very green high moisture content inside Beech is a very heavy wood I'm here to tell you
@@ohiowoodburner Hey, put a moisture meter on it? Would be interesting to see. We never get Beech up here.
FWIW I've found that once air-dried and slow-roasted near my stove to MC in the low single digits, beech really burns nicely and long. What's not to love about it?
Cool! Beech-nut was my favorite
When I smell it it takes me back to my childhood LOL
We have a good amount of beech in my area and I love it. Great burning wood
It is pretty heavy too. I felt it stacking.
@ohiowoodburnerltd2409 very heavy and dense . I love it. My friend where he lives has a ton of it. He lives on a road called Beechwood Rd. No joke 😁
The area is starting to really get developed so unfortunately a lot are coming down. They are like steel eh ?
What a machine.
You got that right dan!
Joe, your woodyard is SOO impressive!! All of your planning and "guesswork" is paying off beautifully and looks to be a fantastic setup. Keep on keepin' on buddy!!
Thanks a bunch Bill!
Some good points about specie-specific sorting of firewood, Joe. 👍🏼
Thanks RG!
Love Beach..
as do I buddy!
Another great load of Firewood from a piece of equipment that i still can't find any flaws with..😁👍
You and me are in agreement there Dan
Dad joke: Q: What kind of tree grows in sand near the ocean? A: A beech.
har har. I will use that one Neil
Excellent job and video Joe sorry for the loss of your friend that was raising her kids ❤😢😮
Thanks Todd. Mama Robin is fine. It was the babies that got gone.
That 405 is one smooth machine! Not much better way for a 12 yr old boy during hunting season. Than setting in a virgin Beech stand decreasing the squirrel population feasting on Beech nuts!
You are bringing back memories Jim!
Hey Joe thanks for the video. Have some beach around my place 2 huge ones that you can't put your arms around and 5 or 6 big ones scattered through the woods. Great firewood but no bare footen around almost as bad as sweet gum
I didn't know they were messy. Good looking tree though. Thanks Mike
Glade got the machine back to making wood. She definitely a productive processor. Keep up the good work stay cool.
Thanks, will do Dan!
Looks like it's making some good kindlin too!
No problem with that monster splitter 😉
I have never complained that the splitter needs more power. It is good enough for me!
Hello Joe,pretty interesting video as usual.I must Say that your speech is neat and I appreciate that very much!
Thanks for watching Ray!
Beechwood nice 👀 looking firewood 🪵 joe . No slow down now the robin are off to heaven 😮, cleaner up 🔝 and running 🏃♂️ flat out now joe .
You got that right Len. Hammer down!
Good stuff Joe. Back to business ❤
Hammer down buddy!
Beech is the main firewood in Germany. 😊
We get a lot of beech here in VT. I try to process it quickly. Beech logs don't age well, and the firewood if its not covered seems to degrade quickly.
Good to know about their tendency to rot Pete. Thanks bud
Cool video
Thanks Chris
hi there now that you collect the sawdust ,is there a market for it in animal bedding or fire starter , or can you burn it in a barrel with all the other waist ? best to all john
I'm sure some solution exists for me to make money. I just don't have the bandwidth to deal with it just now
I was only joking about bringing in a couple cats.
Lol
haha... All good buddy
@@ohiowoodburner lol I gotta pick. It's that dry southern humor of mine 😂
Joe, you're welcome. Your friends, Rocky the raccoon and Thomas the cat.
haha. I could have waited a little longer. It was a shock to find though
Yeah man I noticed that was just a little slower going through the machine, but Joe looks like you are really getting a ton better using that wood splitter. 😎
It is a beast for sure Frank!
I've said it a thousand times, that's the best processor out and you operate it so smoothly!, It makes you look quite unmanly though because you just run a lever and you don't use an axe.
Nice shoes!
🤣
LOL I can tell you listened to the podcast
“It is good.” That totally reminded me of what God said after each day of creation. I was waiting for two more times, and then on the third one,…”It was very good, lol”
Very good indeed Amanda!! Thanks for watching
@@ohiowoodburner you’re welcome. I appreciate the content that you put out, as well.
Good Morning Joe: I’m looking at putting a roof over my Japa. It’s going to be a shed style roof so you can still move the processor in and out if you need to.
I had thought of a VersaTube but I would have to thread the needle to make it work with the 405. There are a lot of specific measurements that I'm not good at making
I looked at the VersaTube and carport type structures. The thing I don’t like is the two closed walls. I really need to backside of the Japa accessible. I’m pretty certain I can do that with a shed style roof with an overhang that is unsupported directly over the processor.
Hey Joe, do any of your customers ask for beech in pacific, for smoker wood
Yes I have. The last time I had beech was when I had the 365 so it has been a while Len
Like the Elvis reference.
thankyouverymuch
Beech is my favorite firewood, it is under-rated as a furniture wood. You should get some cameras around the wood yard. I got a cheap trail cam at my chicken coop, I get many visitors at night.
I will have a vid shortly on cameras. I am good. Thanks buddy!
Where are you adks I'm in tupper lake
@@LeBlancfirewood you're one of those crazy Frenchmen loggers from Tupper Lake aren't you?
@@Adirondack_DFL no not a logger but my grandfather came from novascotia to work in the woods. I did drive chip truck for 5 years where do you live
Always thought beech looks like elephant legs. Here, WNY, there's a lot of hollow ones. I find it's beautiful straight grain or so so and all wavy.
I agree Brandon. I always say the bark looks like elephant skin
Beach is my #1 then hickory...oak maple then cherry
That is a good list jay
Great video Joe. I kinda was hoping you would stack some of the species specific wood alone. You, yourself always preach value added fire wood. I think you could do more smoker wood and it would add a different avenue of revenue for you. Curious about the chips. Are you still doing those or did it just not work out?
I am still doing chips. I will be making them shortly. Stay tuned
G'day Joe, First comment do I get a hat ? anyway that Japa handles anything you can throw at it, I think if they had a Tungsten tipped circle saw it would overcome the need to adjust the down force pressure and you needing to swap out chains all the time production would also speed up they could provide you with a 12 volt Diamond grinder to sharpen it 👍.
I'm not really swapping out chains that often Ish. These last about 6 tables of logs before I change them out. They def last longer then if they were on a chainsaw
Some of those splits look big will you resplit them
They are close but still good for me. No resplitting
Beech will split very easy if split very green, the more it sits the harder it gets to split. If you get a load of beech, straight to the machine.
It dries readily, but does not last as a firewood, meaning if it sits for 2 years it will start to rot quickly,,,, cut it and sell it first.
Good to know Adam. It is pretty heavy stuff I know for sure!
Nice job Joe. Beech is a nice wood. I haven't seen any in a while though. Are you having the wild fire smoke like we are having in nw ohio? Take care m
Yes the smoke is very bad here. Almost looks like a thick fog.
Sorry for mama Robin, but the good news for you is that she probably won’t try to nest there next year.
I will be on the lookout for sure Bill!
Good day. Let me try your sandwich theory: great video…Most of the beech trees have canker sores around here…beach gives off great heat. How’s that?
haha! Nice shoes Roger!!
Great Video as always Joe. Ron from Duanesburg NY. I have to agree with you that Beechwood is a real Tough Wood Sir. Your 405 Japa did a Tremendous job doing it. About how many Tons Of Splitting Power does it have, just wondering. Keep up your great My Friend and looking forward to your next Video my Friend. Ron
I think it has 17 tons but I do know that a lot of other manufacturers have an odd way of calculating. Makes 17 ton seem low but it has plenty splitting power
Thank You Joe for the Info. It sure does a Great Job. Your Friend Ron from Duanesburg.
@@ronbrooks6681 - it’s Big Rodders in Ireland. The Japa website lists the 405 as having a 12.5 ton ram.
Beech nuts are the best 80 % of my wood is beech
That must be awesome. I like beech
Might be a lot of beech coming because of the fungus killing lots of them. They get white powdery spots on the bark and you know they are going to die
Interesting I'm going to look into that. Thanks for the heads up Brian
So how was those baby birds? Did you use Cajun seasoning? Askin for a buddy.
haha. I will stick with chicken.
OoNooo! Nothing safe in ohio! 😂 Japa getting it Done, Take Care 🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
it is a harsh state Larry! LOL
Hey 👋 Joe
Hey there Oreo
@@ohiowoodburner
😂😂😂
Brought to you by Atlas Van Lines....😂😂
haha! They need to pay me royalties!
@@ohiowoodburner that's for sure
G'day Joe, the Japa splits any wood you have I think they should have a Tungsten tip circle saw option that would speed everything up, P.S do I win a hat for being the first to comment 👍.
Not sure on that type of saw. Prob expensive
It's the next step forward for them imagine a saw that docks your wood for a whole week then you can sharpen it in five minutes without having to take it off 🤔😜👍.
sorry for mis robin good job job question the beech wood who uses it in the restaurant
Any Pizzza oven would use it. They don't seem to care about species
Was thinking about your bird problem, would it be an idea to scare them away with a plastic life size owl or other bird of prey perched on your container? Might stop any others deciding to make your yard there home? Just a suggestion
That could happen. I put an owl at the wood shed of one of my restaurants and it worked great
How’s mama killdeer going?
They are still hanging out at my place. There is mama, papa and the four babies. They make quite a ruckus. Loud barking all day long LOL
I listened to the 6/28/23 Wood Hounds podcast:
Congratulations to your great business and CZcams channel.
It was very fitting with baby diaper and baby rash cream ads accompanying your whining about viewer comments!
Nice shoes!
😂😂😂
OK J oe Ive made three comments and none are appearing 🤔.
I can see them on my end Ish!
Yep, a premium needs too be charged for the beech.
The toughness took two months off the machine.
haha. It is def a tough wood.
