  • With over 6,000ft (1,900m) of climbing in one day, the EWS in Pietra Ligura was always going to be rough. Blistering heat in practice, a surprise deluge, and the ever present risk of Covid-19 made it extra tough.⠀
    ⠀
With Bex Baroana unable to race due to CV-19, trying to hold onto the number one plate in the team overall was up to Cole Lucas and Robin Wallner.
    ⠀
The Speedy Swede is normally a fan of sketchy conditions, but a crash on Stage 2 sent him to hospital. He suffered a concussion and is nursing a stiff neck. He hopes to ride next weekend in Finale Ligure, but is being cautious with his brain cells.⠀
    ⠀
Cole was able to keep it rubber side down on all five stages and finished 17th, just 1:03.7 back from the eventual winner. ⠀
    ⠀
Louise Paulin, the reigning EWS Master's World Champion, shook things up and raced in the Women's Pro class. She finished 9th, beating a dozen riders nearly half her age. Mom can rip! ⠀
