I love how candidly and honestly Svetlana and Benni always give info and help to the cosplay community. It's so refreshing and awesome!
And them being so goofy while doing it makes it even better.
It's really one of the reasons why I respect them more than most other professional cosplayers. they understand that this is a hobby and a community and they arent afraid to share their information or knowledge at any given time on a subject.
Kamui: "all of your cosplays are already finished for the next three years"
Me: *hasn't finished the cosplay I was gonna wear in April* 😅
big facts
So true! (The only cosplay I have worked on is one I was not planning xDD)
Or like me: no plans for any cosplay since last october. Finally I had so much time for sewing and I didn´t need it ...
Same! I put it aside for now, am skipping the one I wanted to make for August, and am starting on the one for Halloween
lmao samee. cosplay is still only my hobby and it turns out I'm deadline motivated. all this extra time has just gone to procrastination and not productivity whoops
I've found that recording my process has increased my motivation to get projects done! It's a long process but I get excited knowing I can share that with people. 😄 I only wish I had started doing it sooner.
Well, it's already great you are doing it and have fun! I also barely didn't record my earlier projects and wish to have some photos or videos of them these days. It doesn't make sense to regret something though. Just learn from your mistakes and try to be better next time! :)
Same here i did that on a discord cosplay group and showed my progress on my Black Rock Shooter Cosplay boots and sword prior to Acen last weekend as of writing this. That and even telling people at cons motivated me to get it done.
A video about "how to turn your pattern in to digital" will be cool.
6:54 She talks about Benny scanning and digitizing the pattern, also they showed hot to make digital patterns multiple times czcams.com/video/gK7hW6z7r9A/video.html here's a video example on how to make one yourself
Punished Props has a great tutorial for that
czcams.com/video/31XF5CQ5U0o/video.html
Pretty much you just scan the thing, trace it, add some registration marks and numbers in illustrator.
Scan/ retrace with a cad vector program
Right on! This is all great advice! (Buy her books!)
"Don't be scared! ~♡"
Me and my procrastination; *screaming under a pile of eva foam*
Feel you 🤣
You got this!
I went into Michaels a few days ago and saw a little cosplay section with a picture of you on it. I was very cool😄
I would just like to say THANK YOU. I genuinely smiled at the end when you said “I’m already proud of you”. You bring a LOT of positivity to the cosplay community, both old and young, veteran and new, that I can’t help but be truly inspired. Thank you guys.
“Buy my books” is now a common expression in our home
"my worbla armor book is crap but buy it bc its good" 😂😂😂 shes so funny and honest
I died when she said this lol
I gotta say this video couldn’t come at a more perfect time. Been struggling a lot lately but these videos have been helping me out so much. Thank you for being such a bright light and amazing resource 💕
I know I would definitely enjoy a video on how to digitize patterns, especially pieces that are larger than letter format!
Your cosplay sewing book was one of the very first cosplay things I bought! I just launched my own cosplay commissions page on Etsy and Facebook yesterday!!! Thank you for continuing to be awesome and super honest!!! LOVE YOUR ENERGY!!!
I love how honest Svetlana is. The tip about CZcams, making a personal connection, and how "it's much more easier to sell them your shit". So real!
We need merch shirts with "Buy my books!" ❤️😂
Working on it!!!
@@KamuiCosplay really?!
Was just coming on to say this 😂
BUY HER BOOKS !!!!!!
YES PLEASE
Pardon? There are books available? If only someone mentioned them, and told us where we could buy them. ;)
I buyed one and I barely cosplay anymore and I guess I won´t use it. BUT it looks good and the theory is interesting, so I regrett nothing.
@@KamuiCosplay I did!
@@KamuiCosplay Could also make collector versions :P. Custom books.
This video motivated me to rejoin the cosplay society that I have been far away! Thanks Kamui and
"BUY HER BOOKS"!!!
Fortunately, I don't drink a shot each time you show your books! Xd
Interesting topic, that must take a lot of time to built a decent income, especially when you don't have a lot of financial support to begin with.
These videos not only help the cosplayer but also help people like me who want to make their own unique costumes. I have been building my own character that I have had in my head since middle School. The dragon queen will take a lot of time to build as there are many details. She is half elf half dragon. I never would have thought I could bring her to life if not for the videos here and on other channels.
How have i never thought of a pattern binder.... you are amazing
I really admire how you guys always are so open about how you make your income and you encourage others to try out similar things and find success. Very few online creators share the "secrets" of their success, which is fair because they don't owe it to anyone but you guys still make that effort because you just want to see other people succeed and that's just really cool.
Thank you for sharing these business "behind the scenes" topics! I, too, would love to see the video on digitizing patterns.
You should look at making skillshare courses. You could do them on how to be a CZcamsr, how to make books, how to work with whatever materials, or how to create patters, digitize and size them.
This is amazing. It's so kind of you to share knowledge and encourage others to share their art as well. Thank you so much!
I'm so excited to see this video! I've been cosplaying for years but just recently decided to take it more seriously and I'm really hoping it can be a source of income someday! Thank you so much for sharing this information :)
Just stumbled on this channel and I’m obsessed. Svetlana and Beni are so awesome. All their work, tips and instruction are amazing. I can’t stop watching. I am definitely going to try and make something with foam
Thank you! I woke up today with a bad migraine, and then I stumbled across your channel, and somehow it cheered me up a lot, even though I don't cosplay nowadays. You have such a bright personality!
I am definitely going to use your books and patterns to make some fun cosplays once things start to get rolling on conventions and stuff again (I have a Femme Nightwing cosplay that I've prototyped and I'm dying to put together a more finished version!), but I think that a lot of your advice could easily apply to other artistic endeavours too. For me, I really want to post a webcomic. I've had it in the works for... an embarrassingly long time now, but I've always been too nervous to post it, thinking it's not good enough, that people won't be interested, that there are other much better ones, etc. And I really do need to just... get something done of it and get it out there. It can't be seen by anyone if I keep it on my hard drive forever. My question for you would be, in regards to just getting people to see your content, how in the holy heck does one go about self promoting? I'm terrible at it, I have like -3 followers combined on my social media platforms and I don't know where to begin trying to grow an audience.
The editing in this is hilarious. Gave me a chuckle every time the books were picked up
Also, didn't notice at first but thanks for the timestamps
Between you and Punished Props I've learned a ton on cosplay design. Love all of your books as well
It's so nice how whenever I lose motivation on my cosplays you upload something and hype me up
I love your personality so much I cant even put it into words. I watch you just for your rambling and the enthusiasm. Well, yes your videos helped me start with EVA foam and crafting but your personality kept me here.
Regards from Czech
Ha ha ha, thank you very much, happy to hear you like the books! And greetings from Germany! :)
I love your channel! I purchased one of your books from work ( I use too work at and Art store. They carry your first book). I plan to get all of your books very soon. Thank you both for all of your hard work.
Kamui, I just want you to know that I apply your techniques to my cooking channel. Thanks :)
Hi there random hooman reading da comments have a nice and blessed day
@Andrew Baugh what?
;-; wut?
I get it now QwQ
Thank you hooman :D you too
"850, which is not really a lot..."
That's more than I have per month
Well, we clearly don't make millions like other CZcamsrs here! But if 850 is already enough for you, then it's about time to consider your own CZcams career! :)
850 but for two people, and thats not really a lot. Its also more than i have but the thing is that they do amazing cosplays every month or so and that is crazy expensive stuff - (which is why i do not do that anymore)
@@KamuiCosplay it's always like this people who doesn't deserve earn millions ... And peoples who deserves earn cents BUT! Unless they are clean inside and they know that they worked hard for it♥️
You are the next best advertising sales rep on cozplay books and costumes..your Awesome Flanagan keep up the great work 👍
I want to brush Svetlana's hair for like an entire weekend, it's sooooo pretty.
Thank you! I love your content and it inspires me to keep making cosplays on my channel. Your bright energy helps lift me up.
That final part was really encouraging, thank you again for all that you do for this community :)
Definitely my favorite cosplay CZcams channel, love the energy and passion you put into this!
Those are some great tips, hope I can put them into practice and make some money too!
I absolutely love your enthusiasm and energy! It’s contagious!
Thank you very much. With tip 5 you have motivated me to produce my own material. He was just prejudiced in doing it because "others have already done it and better than me." But when you said "make your own way, but do it!" He was very motivated. I really needed this motivation. Thank you very much :D !! .
I have liked the idea of commissioning custom props. Still really new to this, but you're such an inspiration, Svetlana! I have almost all of your books and several patterns. Buy her books!
Thank you very much for sharing your tips. I really appreciate it. Maybe I have a lil tip for you too. from the watcher perspective. For me as someone who already knew some of the tips it would be cool to see in the description box the chapters with a more detailed title like "Tip 5 - Do you Research" and not only "Tip 5". The current one makes the chapter mark useless.
I love your videos. You and Benni are so personable and funny. (And sooo talented and skilled!!) Thank you for all the good info. Inspiring me to put my work out there and make a living doing what I love. 😊
"To start even the longest journey you have to make the first step"
Danke, dass du dieses Video gemacht hast!!
Thankyou for always providing inspiration and a bit of a behind the scenes look at your business and CZcams channel. We have just started our own CZcams channel and I was so thankful I was taking progress photos but wasn't taking any video at the time. Now trying to do this too. Thanks for the motivation to just give it a go 😊
You're so cute, energetic and funny! Thanks for making this video!
Wow, this was just amazing...🤩 MORE Biz Vids Please 🙏 I would love to know how you you manage your time (at like, every level - day, week, month), how you structure your year around the different events etc. that are important to you, and how all that developed as your work expanded! (I always feel like there’s more to be done than I can cram into 12 months, and I have a really tough time prioritizing!)
This is the best video ever! Thank you for the advice, this is very motivational and inspiring and I'm going to go make stuff right now!!!
I would love to see a video on how Benni & yourself make your stream & what equipment/software is used, we have seen Bill's(Punished Props) video & Adam Savage's(Adam Savage's Tested) on there streams, also a guided tour of your build area(workshop) & some of your older builds some of us have not seen
....oh yes...yes, I purchased a book,... yes I know just one to start with more for the future, & I am eagerly awaiting delivery...Australia is so far away it takes forever 🙄 keep up the good work & stay safe.
There is one somewhere, have a search through the old videos.
@@Ian_KaosThanks mate I did look but didnt find one,,,maybe PC eyes & I missed it, but it wouldnt hurt to do a new vid to see what has changed.
czcams.com/video/kKJK1Eao3pk/video.html this is the one I was thinking of. It has some of what you were asking for but not all. I’d be interested in buying a book about that!
Love your enthusiasim:) Makes me smile everytime...keep up the great work:D
This motivated me extremely, gonna go work on something right away, thanks
Thanks for the encouragement! Eventually I'll get there I hope
I just bought the first of your books in the cosplay shop in belgium and i intend to buy the rest too, i love your video’s and your corgi’s they are adorable. 😍
"Customer Support by Benni"
Should be on all products.
Thx 4 the vid!! Really got me thinking about for when I'm better and have more experience in cosplay. XD and i did definitely buy ur books lol. They help alot, especially I'm tackling my first big build xD
AHHH BUY HER BOOKS!! They're amazing!!! :3
I agree please do video on how turn sewing patterns into digital patterns. For those doing digital sewing patterns sewing patterns, it great idea and give people at home something to do. Also few suggestions research the cosplay, detail pictures plus instructions how to put the cosplay together. Plus very important what types of fabrics to use make cosplay and where buy certain materials that may not be available in stores. Then another suggestion if you have really good skills pattern making skills, do custom sewing patterns as part of your services.
Oh, I actually never made sewing patterns, I'm sorry. All my patterns are for armor or any other costumes pieces you can create out of EVA foam or Worbla.
Thank you for the tips, and motivations! :D
Thank you soooooo much Kamui!!!!!!! 😭😭💗💗
Awesome video, I would love a little "how to start" writing your book. I have an idea for one but I'm pretty intimidated because I have no idea where to start actually
You guys have such a wonderful way to work, love the hustle, I'm buying some of the books 😂
I loved this video! It definitely added some sunshine to my day 💕
Thank's for all this advices !!! It will help me for sure !!!!
I would love to see a video about tips on how to open your own website and how to make templates!
As an aspiring cosplay maker, how do you overcome the struggle of starting a new costume. I feel scared to start making a cosplay but keep putting it off.
Thanks
Just don't force it. If you feel inspired and want to craft, then just do what you enjoy. However if you feel like you have to create something new, it's probably not the right time. Cosplay is about having fun and never should feel like a job! :)
I find that a lot of the time with cosplays I get really excited thinking about how to do a specific part and so I usually start off the cosplay with that part. You could research how to do an aspect of the cosplay that you think is really cool or maybe start with something simple that you know won't be too tricky. Also, don't be afraid of messing up cosplay can be a learning curve (even the biggest cosplayers make mistakes). Oh, and you can always go back to older cosplays and remake things when you've learned new skills
You just gotta pick a place to start. I had wanted to do it for years, and finally did my first last fall. I failed at sewing my own dress from scratch, and due to limited time, I instead chose to alter something from the thrift store. I searched for the places that I would buy my materials from, watched a lot of cosplay tutorials, and found a basic and free pattern to create my prop. It certainly wasn't a professional job in the end, but I learned a lot in the process and know the next will be even better. My simple cosplay, that looked so flawed to me, got a lot of good reactions and people wanted pictures with me. Just go for it!
Dont feel like you have to start from one specific spot. Research and pick out an area of the cosplay that you want to work on first.
For example, I'm working on a cosplay of Kratos from GoW4, and I started by making The Blades of Chaos, which led me to working on the blood soaked rags, which led me to working on the shoulder guard.
Progress starts from where YOU want it to.
Thank you for giving such real info.
sorry when i Didn`t want to buy your book online. Because I will wait and buy it on a Convention. So I hope I can talk with you a little bit. CZcams and your Channel is great but I isn´t the same. you know what I mean. And your Books are great. I have your first 3 books and I have never seen so good explantions in any other Book or Video. So I have take me marker in it because it´s something like a Lexikon.... Sorry for my english. All other anleitungen books are so... Bogged down. yours are free and that Inspire me more.
Thank you for the video! :3 Even tho I'm not a cosplayer, it is very inspirational and orientative for me ^^
You are amazing. Thanks for all the content and commentary.
I love the enthusiasm and sheer joy in the videos. I am really inspired to build some cool things. I would like to know when ordering the books which is a better mode? Digital or physical?
Whatever you prefer. The content is the same. :)
Love them. Always so helpful.
I really hope you'll add the patern for your GW2 Norn greatsword! I really want to make it only to put it on decoration in my house! I play with it so much in the game! 😍
thank you for this video! i would love to collab with you. it's awesome to see your evolution of cosplay, i remeber seeing you and other cosplayers at anime conventions. thanks for the encouragement! you are doing Gods work!
Love the Channel! any chance we can get updates on some of the older how-to videos? Interested to see if you have any new products or do this not that :) could be cool to see you watch and review them with the knowledge you have now. Vielen Dank fuer die geilen videos! ( Tried my hand at German )
I watch your videos all the time and you make it look so easy..and explanation so clear
A really awesome and encouraging video, thanks for making it!
Thank you for the inspiration as well as all the perspiration you guys put into everything you do!!! Bye bye!!
You both make my soul happy. :)
You all should do an art book of photos of all of your work and final costumes.
Thanks for the information on the passive income ideas. Great video
You are soo amazing and I always appreciate your videos and ideas! THANK YOU
Thank you for this!! :)
Thank you for the tips! It was very useful 💖
Totally agree with this. I’ve made a ton of money in the last few months making foam props.
Do you sell them to make money?
Yes, I’ve made a few helmets this month for clients.
Thanks for the tips!
Hi Svetlana! I am wondering where and how you get your physical books made? Is there a website? Thank you so much, I'm so glad I got to meet you at a convention last year! :)
Hey Svetlana and Benni!
Already bought ALL your books (and read them cover to cover a gazillion times!)!
I am starting my first proper cosplay project and am filming the process. I am even using your patterns I bought as a base! But I have to ask what video editing and sound software do you use? I have a few that I am playing with, but yours seems to produce some AMAZING results.
I just binged your youtube over the last four days... yay quarantine!
Those books look interesting. Can I buy them? 😉😂 (I've said it before, but it seems a fitting time to repeat that you are delightfully charming.)
Really looking forward to the digital pattern video!!
@KamuiCosplay thank you so much, I love your videos, they are perfect for info and for young cosplayers. Love you😝
BUY THE BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I’m a weird one because I actually bought the book “the costume making guide” from barns and nobles or something around 4 years ago and then found out you had a CZcams page!
I would love a video on how to digitise my patterns..... I'm clueless
Svetlana, your enthusiasm and energy is infectious! I love it!! Now, what was it you wanted us to do? Oh yeah!! BUY YOUR BOOKS! hehehe
Thanks for your advices Svetlana! Nowadays I'm very in my CZcams channel, although I wanna stream as soon as I get a new computer. I think I will start selling prints on Etsy as well.
Love watching your videos. You are so full of energy! Thanks for the tips. You mentioned listing the product links in your description and if people click on them and order something, you get a commission. Is that something you set up with the business, or how does that work?
You just need to create an Amazon affiliate account for that and use their special affiliate links to make an income with these links. :)
Have you done a video on how to turn stuff into patterns? Or how to get a hold of models to shove into pattern making programs? I'm struggling to make patterns for a cosplay I want to do and I'm not sure where to start for it!
