- "21 CHUMP STREET" is a story of love, decisions, mistakes and consequences.
This is a tale based on a true story as reported in WBEZ's series 'This American Life'. "21 CHUMP STREET" is an important recall of a high school honors student who falls in love with a beautiful transfer student from New York. Although he's never done this before, and has no idea what he's doing, he goes to great lengths to oblige her request for marijuana in hopes of winning her heart - only to find out that his crush is actually an undercover police officer working to catch drug dealers in schools.
Monticello High School Drama in Albemarle County, near Charlottesville, Virginia, performs this musical by Lin-
Manuel Miranda, and uses it as a teaching tool to inform teenage students whom can learn so much from this story.
so this is whatever the hell it is you do in monticello
+winkie3331 this is amazing thank you

The guy playing Justin sounds so similar to Anthony Ramos.
Ikr!
You're Art Okay trruuuu
You're Art Okay I think they just duplicated his voice and injected into him 😂😂

Is Thomas Jefferson in the audience gettin' high with the french?
Lmao
daniiella he's probably smoking weed
OMG YOU'RE AMAZING
No, he's dead (SORRY I HAD TO)
YYYYAASSS BITCH!
Everybody's freaking out about Hamilton, BUT THE NARRATOR'S HIGH HEELS ARE SOOOOO LOUD
It's lowkey satisfying
Right?? It’s like multiplied by 10 because she’s on a stage too lmao.
i think there is just wayyy to much people.
thE GUY WHO PLAYED JUSTIN IS AMAZING WHAT
Justin's vocals were amazing. I don't think the actress for Naomi really understood who she was playing. She was more of a middle schooler than she was an adult pretending to be a high school senior. Justin was seriously the highlight
KrazyKirstie Nina was fine.
Are we listening to the same Justin here?
Did anyone else think, "No, I don't want your money, sir." when she tried to pay him?
2:34 YOU GO GIRL WITH A PINK SHIRT DANCE LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW
KateDraws I knooooow, l was like okay you do your thing 😊
Pyrian The girl with the shirt. It's okay
I loved her lol !
im late but she dropped LOW
So this is what the hell they do in monticello
+Kristinspired Yessssss!

BabyBlue lol
Hahayse sameeeeee lol😂😂😂
Uh... i think... uhh...being a robot?
Im kinda sad no one laughed 😐
Moonlight maybe there was no audience?
Moonlight Wait no I heard some people laughing in the background
Elvishhh yes there were people that laughed but not a lot. So I kinda felt awkward when I was crying XD
It's because the comedy timing was way off.
@@sav3922 Okay, did you not see the people's heads at the bottom?
When I saw Monticello I was like: HAMILTON!!!!!!
Pastel The Princess
×2!
Cutie Patootie same tho
The guy who played Justin is really good, Anthony has a little more emotion though.
høt wingz but Anthony is an actual Broadway performer and this is just a high schooler
høt wingz true
cactidontcare constructive criticism my friend
just wondering why so much Overkill with the Ensemble? the original show had only five people in it
Probably so the entire drama group could participate
fair
walkergirl02 they could've split up the chorus part instead of over powering the main
Yeah
I thought it had 6
"What the heck I gotta do" ends at 4:20
Overcooked Eggs DED
"What the heck I gotta do"
4:20, get me weed
Not A Lowwblood blaze it
The kiss ended me
This Naomi is more like "high-schooler pretending to be a cop" than "a cop pretending to be a high schooler" in my opinion.
She’s actually a high schooler pretending to be a cop that’s pretending to be a high schooler
@@ceruleangiant4544 exactly
Ya, maybe that’s why the og is so good, cause it’s literally not a high schooler so that “awkward trying to be cool” is better conveyed
But I still really enjoyed this version!
I gotta be in Monticello...
doin whateva the hell it is ya do it is monticello
Livy DiJoseph now the work at home begins...
This is awesome! Where did you get the sheet music? I'm trying to direct my own version of 21 Chump Street and I can't find it anywhere.
THSZeit They probably just used instrumentals.
they would've layed the company that manages the show to get ahold of everything.
when you get it let me knowww i wanna hear it
Holy shit, this guy sounds JUST like Anthony Ramos. Get this guy to play Laurens/Phillip.
We aint have to bring Hamilton into this
Justin actor: 10\10 Naomi actor: Ummm, uh, you know what? I'm going to go grab a drink, uh, see you later!!!
Back! Oh right, the rating! Um, do I really have to do this??? I'm late for something anyway, bye!
Clorox Bleach She wasn't that bad. Considering that they're in high school. I actually liked her.
Clorox Bleach
You said you will get a drink right ? You might try to drink you're profile pic from the bad acting. I'm just saying...
I don't keep bleach in my house, LOL. Plus, what's up with your grammar dude?
Clorox Bleach I see you everywhere what the hell
If only my school was cool enough to do 21 Chump Street. For our musical we're doing high school musical ;-;
Our school is doing Hairspray....
nutella eating panda my school is doing Hamilton!!
My school is doing The King And I
@@biscuitproductions7737 fricking lucky
Also I love your profile picture
My school don't even do that, my school focuses more on Academics and Fitness more than Creative Art
This should be used for an anti drug program....
This was good, but they could've put more emotion into their acting and singing
ExpoEdits to be fair they are in high school so you can't expect them to be broadway level
_ExpoEdits_
Yes, but they don't get an excuse out of some good criticism just because they're high schoolers. They'll never improve if they refuse to be open to criticism. I've seen another high school remake of this, and it was better. There could've been a lot of improvement on this, but it wasn't terrible. I agree with the original commenter here.
i see you eVERYWHERE-
ExpoEdits ya but it was really good
(gentle agree, especially with the naomi here. great voice, low tier acting)
The kid in the blue shirt made me laugh so hard he was just walking around and dancing
my high school is doing this show!
Marissa Moreno luuucky
Marissa Moreno
WHAT ?!
Marissa Moreno
We have the same first name
Marissa Moreno WOAHHH
No fair!!!
if I listened to this with my eyes closed I would probably think it was Anthony, this kid is great
I need my school to do this musical!
Literally skipped right to 'take the money' just to see the kiss XD
Cody's Art corner XD
Cody's Art corner same lolZ
gotta be in monticello the work at home begins
Justin: 10/10 Vocals where fantastic! On point! If I only heard the voice, I would think it was Anthony. Great job!
Lin: 8/10 pretty much the female version of Lin, vocals where a tiny bit off, but overall good job!
Naomi: 7/10 I feel like she didn't entirely understand who she was playing, but the vocals where ok. The tunes where a off at certain parts.
Background dancers: 8/10 Great! None of them tried to steal the spotlight (I've seen some school shows where that happens). Not entirely synchronized at all parts, but I don't blame you! Many Broadway shows even struggle with that.
Overall: 8/10! (Kinda sad no one laughed too much, :0 ) this was amazing for a school performance! Get you actor for Justin on broadway, please!
So this is what the hell they do in Monticello
I love Justin's actor😆😍
*WAVES HAND STRUTTING* GOTTA BE IN MONTICELLO
can I just say I love this and you people are being mean to the girl who played Naomi. I mean could you people do it any better?! she tried really hard! she went in front of everyone!
Deathly Animations and being in front of others also welcomes criticism
My dog could be a better actor than her
Phoenix Inferno she performed. That right there opens critizisim. Welcome to theatre.
as a person who does theatre, i think it's more the fault of whoever was helping her with understanding her character than her own. people can only embody a character they relate to, and i feel there was some sort of disconnect between her and the character she played. of course, people are going to comment on it. they could be kinder with their words, but they're still going to remark that maybe her performance has stuff to be gained.
(lovely voice though.)
I like it i'm just so confused why he would get in trouble for taking it. I know it was against the laws but she pressured him into it.
Lavenderrss if you fall into peer pressure its still your fault. Its not like abuse. Alrgoufh it should be. Thats why
I mean, isn't the whole point of the story and the play that Justin unfairly goes to jail, for being manipulated by the cop, cuz he had a crush on her?
This answers Alexander Hamilton's question. "Whatever the hell it is you do in Monticello!"
*COUGH* HAMILTON *COUGH*
My god, THE GUYS WHO PLAYS JUSTIN IS A *PRO*
The girl in the pink shirt is just so hyped, i love it
Edit: Everyone is just phenomenal, it's really very good.
Justin spoke most of his parts in What the heck I gotta do
The guy playing Justin killed my favorite musical. It says most of his lyrics like a line, and the ensemble is taking Justin's lyrics, and his voice cracks.
“Doing whatever the hell it is you do in Monticello”
That guy in the beanie would make a great Connor, he looks like Mike Faist's son or brother lmao
Then I said, "I gotta go"I gotta be in Monticello~
So...can I be in the room where it happens?*Madison voice* Please...
Am I the only one really annoyed at 13:45 he skipped over the "that's not the only reason I liked her though" part? Other than that the guy who played Justin did a good job
I can totally see the kid who plays Justin on Broadway or at least in Hamilton. HES AMAZING
Why we bringing Hamilton into this
when you feel bad about rejecting people so you just cast everyone who auditions.
Me: *sees title* I'm gonna make a Hamilton reference!
*checks comment section to make sure no one else said the same thing*
DANG IT!
WOA YOUNG THOMAS IS THAT U IN THE BLU
I SEE THE CURLS MAN
If I was watching this IRL... I would scream if it was a surprise...
This was great! Especially for a highschool performance.
Wow I wish they did this in my school, you guys did amazing! It may have not been like the original but this was is pretty hard to beat so congrats! I loved everything and loved everyone in this great job!
justin looks like hes actually crying at the very end
i liked this, but i had a few key issues with it.
-the ensemble was huge, and comprised of mostly women!! i get that it's hard to get teenage guys into theatre or whatever, societal expectations and all that jazz, but this is a high school; there have to be more than three guys who can carry a pitch and are willing to sing. the only reason i say this is because the part of the ensemble isn't made for such a huge group, and the part is low, because it's written for lower vocal ranges. a lot of the times, in the ensemble parts that were supposed to be powerful, (e.g. "justin, say goodbye to college, they got you") the ensemble was either speaking the line, or ghosting over the note, and that sorta created a sucker punch for the weight of the statement.
-another thing about the ensemble: i get that it was big, and y'all probably just wanted everybody to get time to sing, but there is plenty of ensemble action up in these parts. best course of action would be to split the people into three main groups, soprano, alto/tenor, and baritone/bass, so that their vocal ranges could be accommodated for, and maybe the harmonies wouldn't have been messy at some parts. anyway, one of the biggest things that bothered me about this was when some ensemble members would sing along with justin during a part that was supposed to be single, like in the "who the heck i gotta be, for you to be with me?" of what the heck i gotta do, or the "love" bit of cousin. y'know? those parts are powerful specifically because justin is singing by himself, and it gives the actor a place to show off his vocals. when the ensemble would sing along in those parts, not only would it take away from the feel as a whole, but they didn't do much blending, and they all overpowered justin to the point where i barely heard him at all :/
-i adored this justin!! the only note i have here is that he probably sings a lot lower than anthony ramos and a lot of his higher notes sounded kinda strangled. nothing he can do there, and i feel that, y'know, it's hard to hit notes outside of your belt, in your belt. this man requires some HEADVOICE. tasty stuff. can be acquired via training. he's a talented guy, y'all should make it happen for him.
-there were several things about the naomi that really got my goat. i mean, don't get me wrong, her pitch was on point, which is good for just about any character. she had good tone, and she was always in tune. what bothered me though was the way she embodied naomi's character. all her lines felt forced, like she was just reading a script. that's not what i look for; naomi's character has some *heavy* emotions going on here, and y'all gotta take care to emphasise it. even on the lines that should've invoked emotion, like the bits about her childhood with drugs, or the lines that should've been funny ("let's just say... i drink at the end of the day") felt like dry reading. i don't think she really got a chance to empathise and feel for that character the way all actors should for the parts they play. i don't think she's a bad actress, i just don't think she was able to embody that role. also, she had a lack of vibrato or any vocal inflexion that sorta grated while i was listening. vocal control, girl!!! it's crunchy. she is a talent, and must be given access to places where she can learn to control her voice better, because throwing in some tasty vibrato would make it very, very lovely. she has a really clear voice that i enjoyed hearing. the lack of vocal control just grated a lil.
-a couple others also had the "dry reading" problem, on some of the funnier lines ("aw, little justin is crushing!") and that made it a little hard to enjoy some of the things that make this musical fundamentally good.
i'm not, by any means, saying that y'all aren't a talented group! the ensemble harmonised well and some of the choreography (e.g. the end of the musical, where the ensemble all had their heads down, until the very end when they lifted them up) touched my heart very especially. there was some top tier shit. there are just specific parts that bugged me, and of course this is just my (relatively) untrained opinion that nobody has to listen to whatsoever. i enjoyed your guys' rendition of this musical, and wish you all luck in the future :)!!
This is pretty good for a school performance.... wait
i gotTA BE IN MONTICELLO
to watch 21 chump street
Doing whatever the hell it is you do in Monticello.
Noemi sounded amazing
Mlppawheart Naomi*
I wonder if they actually kissed?
WHY THE HECK DID I LOVE THE COUSINS SONG?????
So Good! 💗💗💗🔥🔥🔥🔥💖💖💖
Lmao this is what the hell they do in montecello
Everyone was great! I'm just sad that the kid who played justin didn't get a lot of solo parts. They were just taken over by most of the cast members
It would have been sad and hilarious if this was at preformed at the actual school this happened at
Noimi:10/11
Justin:11/11
this was so beautiful
Bella Bear And when you're beautiful...IT'S A BEAUTIFUL FRICKIN DAY!
Wet Socks VERONICA! VERONICA! VERONICAAAAAAAAA
Ive seen this auditorium before! Ive been there! I swear
Ok yeah IVE BEEN THERE BEFORE FOR FORENSICS!!!!
The original 21 chump street : only uses like 8 people
This: uses almost 20 people 😂
original-6 people
this one-10 people
The Justin was amazing, but that Niomi though
question, im really dumb. What musical is this from XD or is 21 chump street its own play?
Arthur Deer the musical is " 21 chump street " by Lin Manuel Miranda
Arthur Deer it was to raise awareness for drug use and abuse or something. It was a record for the shortest broadway musical at 15 minutes
It's also based on a true story
The one who plays Justin sounds so similar to Anthony, with a little work I feel like he can play Phillip are John 😆
0:42 DAM WHO MADE HER MAD -(THEM HEELS I SWEAR)-
This cast is bigger than the original cast
honestly it sounds good and the back up voice or vocals? Idk what they are called sounds good. A few lines missing but understandable
One of my favorite versions.
This is really good wow especially for high schoolers
I like this thomas lol
What the heck, this is really good, especially the person who played Justin!
the actress for justin sounds so amazing! great job!
This is pretty good for a school play...
Hold on... **realises that the kids actually have good voices and good intentions**
THIS IS WHY ITS TOO GOOD FOR A SCHOOL PLAY!
So I literally was posting a joke about "Whatever the hell it is you do in Monticello" and this was right there when I posted it...I was confused, happy, and startled
How did get the background audio?
How did you get the instrumentals? Please tell me because our class is gonna do a musical and they asked me what to play and then i said 21 chump street cuz this is the only short musical I know, We'll give credits to Lin Man and the others who created the musical, please tell me how y'all got the instrumentals🙏🙏🙏🙏
whatever it is you do in Monticello
So this is what Monticello.
My schools doing this play and I want to play Justin even though I’m a girl
Millie Sha so...who's role or what role did you take? My class is also playing this musical and I'm gonna play NAOMI...
at first I didn't want the role cuz...ya know, nervousness...but then I decided to take the role for the grades😂😂😂😅😅
Where's the instermenal for the play?
How did you guys get the instrumental and the scripts ?
When Naomi said, " I'm doing my job, and I'm doing my job right," the last before the "breakout" and everyone starts dancing, it was off-pitch. ;)
this is way too good for a school play!!!
where did you get the tracks?
aljon paul cruz I think their orchestra and band did it
Is Thomas and Lafayette in the crowd
THIS IS LEGIT AMAZING
me: *talking abt the guy who played justin* “let’s get this guy in front of a crowd!”
They did amazing in this production,I am a theatre major and Im working on a stage management project for this production and I was wondering if you had made a timing sheet for how long each scene was and took for the actors as reference!
This is amazing. I gotta be in Monticello.
