I became certified in phlebotomy as well because it gave me the opportunity to make more money. It also gave me the upper hand to be chosen to draw patients' blood. I've been doing this six years now.
I did it because it would look nice on my resume for experience. I also wanted to improve my skills. I was gonna do this for EKG as well. I see myself only doing phlebotomy and that’s it in the future.
I became a licensed phlebotomist as part of my credential stacking plan for higher pay along with CNA & PCT to go with my MA Certification, plus I wanted to be skilled at blood draws and not hurting patients. I also have several micro certifications in EKG, wound care and mental health. I plan to get the full EKG certification as well. Its already paid off with my first job as an MA apprentice.
I was literally talking about this with my MA instructor. I decided I will be getting my Phlebotomy and EKG certification to give me more hands on, as well as learning more about it. Most jobs I looked at in NY want you to do phlebotomy as well. I want to have it on my resume as well so they know I have the experience and skilled at it. We only did blood draws for 4 weeks to become proficient. I’m going for my associates 2 days after I graduate in July and I want as much under my belt as possible to increase my pay, experience, and job opportunities.
Hey Ms. K! I became a Certified Phlebotomist first then an MA. I wanted to do both so that I can be fluent in both positions and be able to draw blood when needed as an MA
